Former President Donald Trump has selected as his running mate first-term Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, who has opposed abortion access and some LGBTQ+ rights in his time in political office.

Vance, 39, a Yale Law School graduate and former venture capitalist, first entered the political arena with his 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” The book, which chronicled his childhood and upbringing shaped by poverty and addiction growing up in Southwestern Ohio, became a bestseller and guide to many for understanding Trump voters.

Vance was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022. Over his political career, he transformed from a Trump critic in the 2016 election to a strong Trump supporter, fully embracing Trump’s brand of populist politics and positioning himself as the vanguard of an ultraconservative intellectual movement. Vance has opposed abortion and some LGBTQ+ rights measures while supporting policies he argues would increase birth rates in the United States. Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, a lawyer he met at Yale, have three children.

He is also like the Speaker of the House Congressman Mike Johnson is another Christian conservative and in the past support anti-LGBTQ+ legislation while blocking pro-LGBTQ+ legislation.

On Monday, two days after surviving an assassination attempt inPennsylvania, former PresidentDonald Trump announcedRepublicanOhio U.S. Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. This announcement sparked fierce opposition from the Biden-Harris campaign and LGBTQ+ advocates, who view Vance as a direct threat to the progress made in recent years.

Jen O’Malley Dillon, chair of Biden-Harris 2024, did not hold back in her condemnation of Vance, emphasizing the dangerous implications of his alignment with Trump’s extreme agenda.

“Donald Trump picked J.D. Vance as his running mate because Vance will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people,” Dillon said in a statement.

Vance’s legislative history is a testament to his far-right positions, which have consistently targeted LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive freedoms. According to GLAAD, he introduced the so-called “Protect Children’s Innocence Act,” a piece of legislation that misrepresents transgender healthcare and aims to criminalize medical professionals providing gender-affirming care to minors. The act proposes a Class C felony penalty for these procedures, which are falsely described as “gruesome” and “irreversible.”

In the Senate, Vance introduced a ban on gender-affirming care for minors called the Protect Children’s Innocence Act. “The act includes an array of far-right, anti-transgender buzzwords and ‘bans’ a variety of medical procedures, none of which are a part of transgender healthcare for minors,” GLAAD notes. Violation would be a Class C felony, and conviction would come with a prison term of 3.5 to 15 years. The bill has not passed. He also infamously said Democrats want to bring immigrants into the U.S. to turn them transgender.

I mean really, really, really bad for us.

In 2022, he tweeted, “I’ll stop calling people ‘groomers’ when they stop freaking out about bills that prevent the sexualization of my children.” He has also “repeated false rhetoric to inaccurately claim that bills censoring classroom conversation about LGBTQ people are about ‘parents’ rights,’” GLAAD reports.

Did I say how bad it will be for us if these guys get elected?

He opposes abortion in all circumstances except when the life of the pregnant person is threatened. He has promised to support a national ban on abortion. He voted against a bill to codify access to in vitro fertilization in federal law.

It is going to be really bad not just for us but for women also!

And just think there are some trans women who think he is fantastic!

I’m voting for the old guy who is honest, trustworthy, and has integrity! Not the guy who makes used car salesman look like saints.
