Here is the U.S. Trump just wrote them out of existence, no I am not talking about us, the trans community but rather the intersex community. In Trump Executive Order 14168 he issued a royal decree... that there are only two sexes! On the other side of the Atlantic the intersex community are also having problems with violence against them.

Intersex people in Europe face increasing levels of discrimination and harassment, according to a report released Wednesday by the EU Rights Agency (FRA).

The agency said it found the lack of progress alarming as disinformation campaigns online specifically target intersex people. The report includes an online survey of 1,920 intersex people in 30 EU and Western Balkan countries in 2023.

"Intersex people in the EU experience alarming levels of exclusion, discrimination and violence," FRA Director Sirpa Rautio said, calling for "an urgent response."

Europeans who do not fit the typical definition of male or female are grappling with an “alarming” rise in violence, the EU’s leading rights agency has said, as concerted campaigns seek to sow disinformation and fuel hatred towards them.

The findings from the EU’s Agency for Fundamental Rights, published on Tuesday, were based on responses from 1,920 people in 30 countries across Europe. All of them identified as intersex, an umbrella term referring to those with innate variations of sex characteristics and which can also include people who identify as trans, non-binary and gender diverse.

It found that since 2019, the rates of violence and harassment against intersex people have sharply increased – particularly among those who identify as trans, non-binary and gender diverse – far outpacing the increases reported by others in the LGBTQ+ community.

I want to point out that many in the intersex community do not think themselves as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

The Vienna-based agency linked the rise to a wider climate of “increasing or persisting intolerance and bigotry, as well as intense online hatred campaigns” that had “instrumentalised” the LGBT+ community.

“Disinformation campaigns fomenting intolerance and prejudice are often waged by foreign and domestic actors acting to undermine European and western democracies and core values, such as dignity, equality and diversity,” the agency noted.

The result was a “weaponising” of the fact that many people know little about those who identify as intersex, trans, non-binary and gender diverse, allowing these campaigns to spread disinformation and “fuel hatred and violence against them”, it said.

Sound familiar? It should be because "foreign and domestic actors" is the right-wing American organizations!

The report echoes organisations across Europe, who have long warned of politicians using parliament, political rallies and media interviews to fuel anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment and normalise discrimination across the continent.

Denmark's foreign minister had the top U.S. diplomat in the country summoned for talks after the main national public broadcaster reported Wednesday that at least three people with connections to President Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in Greenland.

Greenland, a huge semi-autonomous Danish territory in the Arctic, is coveted by Mr. Trump, who has called repeatedly for the vast land mass to be annexed by the United States. Denmark and Greenland insist that the mineral-rich island is not for sale, while Mr. Trump has not ruled out taking it by military force even though Denmark is a NATO ally.

That is not how you treat a friend!

On Wednesday, Danish public broadcaster DR reported that government and security sources, which it didn't name, as well as unidentified sources in Greenland and the U.S., believe that at least three Americans with connections to Mr. Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in the territory.

It said its story was based on information from a total of eight sources, who believe the goal is to weaken relations with Denmark from within Greenlandic society.

Trump gets a bee in his bonnet and he stick to it no matter who toes he steps upon.

Hate Is Spreading

The annual Rainbow Map ranking has named Poland, Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan as some of the worst countries to be LGBT+ in Europe, while the UK continues to slide down the rankings.

Since 2009, LGBT+ organisation ILGA-Europe has compiled an annual Rainbow Map ranking of the 49 countries in Europe based on each country’s commitment to LGBT+ rights and equality.

In the ranking each country is assigned a percentage point based on its standing in six key areas: equality and non-discrimination; family; hate crime and hate speech; legal gender recognition and bodily integrity; civil society space and asylum.

This year’s list names Azerbaijan as the worst country in Europe for LGBT+ rights and equality with a score of just 2.3 per cent. Other countries trailing behind include Turkey (3.8 per cent), Armenia (7.5 per cent), Russia (10 per cent) and Poland (16 per cent).

Conversely, Malta topped the ILGA-ranking for the fifth year in a row, coming out with an incredible 89 per cent score. It was followed by Belgium and Luxembourg (both 73 per cent), Denmark and Norway (both 68 per cent) and Spain (67 per cent).

This is wedge politics.

In elections now a days we see a split of almost 50 50 between the winners and the losers, and the conservatives see the difference between winning and losing is the votes of the bigots and haters. That 3 or 4 percent can be the difference that the conservatives are looking for to win so they play to their base.

What we need to do is to make the other 46 – 47 percent who usually vote conservative to not want to get in bed with the bottom slime.

Michael Pack, President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media, has appointed to the organization’s board a person with ties to an anti-LGBT group and another who publicly bashed President Barack Obama’s transgender policy. 

The board of directors for these media organizations that are overseen by the USAGM have a say on who is selected to become leaders of the companies they represent. Their ties and previous remarks could give a preview into the way Michael Pack, the CEO of the agency, is remaking the federally funded news organization to fit a more conservative tone.

Among the agencies that he will oversee is Voice of America

The board moves come after Pack purged longtime board members and executives just weeks after officially becoming USAGM’s new CEO. Trump himself has publicly taken aim at Voice of America, one of the news organizations overseen by the agency.

Alexandre [is expected to be a corporate board member for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty] is also senior counsel for government affairs at Liberty Counsel Action, an associated 501(c)(4), that, according to their website,  “advances religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, the family, responsible government, national security, and support for Israel at the federal, state, and local levels.”

He is politicizing Voice of America which in recent years has been working to be a balance and respectable as BBC, now that effort has been thrown away.

 

Why is this important to the LGBTQ+ community?

Because the former Warsaw Pact countries are becoming Fascist and strongly anti-LGBTQ, some of those countries have passed law banning us and in other countries they have set up concentration type camps for LGBTQ people and now into that mix Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty, Voice of America will throw their message of anti-LGBTQ hate. 

We Are Being Attacked All Over World.

With governments looking the other way to the brutal murders of trans women.

There was a horrendous murder of a trans in Brazil (I won’t write about but you can read it here), but one thing I will quote from the article is this,

The South American nation recently elected their own version of President Donald Trump. Newly installed far-right President Jair Bolsonaro was heavily supported by evangelicals and the religious right. He is notoriously anti-LGBTQ.

We see this all around the world, where the government demonizes us the violence against us goes up. Here in the U.S. hate crimes have increased…

Hate crime reports increased 17 percent last year from 2016, the F.B.I. said on Tuesday, rising for the third consecutive year as heated racial rhetoric and actions have come to dominate the news.

Of the more than 7,100 hate crimes reported last year, nearly three out of five were motivated by race and ethnicity, according to the annual report. Religion and sexual orientation were the other two primary motivators.

In addition to the tense political climate, the increase also points to a growing awareness among various law enforcement agencies of the importance of identifying and reporting hate crimes to the F.B.I.

Reporting hate crimes to the F.B.I. is currently voluntary. Last year, roughly a thousand more agencies submitted data than those that did the previous year.

Much of the country’s political discourse in recent years has been fueled by deep racial divisions. Controversies have ignited this week over a photo of high school students flashing what appears to be a Nazi salute, and a joke by Cindy Hyde-Smith, a white United States senator from Mississippi who ran against Mike Espy, who is black. Ms. Hyde-Smith said that she would attend a public hanging if a supporter asked her to.

A number of the politicians are supporters of white supremacists. Here in Connecticut the Hartford Courant reported a candidate dropped out because,

Gagliardi came forward to fill the vacancy left by the Oct. 12 resignation of the initial GOP candidate Steve Baleshiski, a 22-year-old Southington college student whose online comments against a Parkland High school shooting survivor, immigrants, Islam and other topics sparked an uproar. Baleshiski dropped out after the Republican leadership in the two-town district withdrew their support of him as their candidate.

Then on the national level NBC reported…

Rep. Steve Stivers, chairman of the House GOP campaign arm, excoriated Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King on Tuesday for espousing white supremacist viewpoints online and in public remarks.

"Congressman Steve King's recent comments, actions, and retweets are completely inappropriate. We must stand up against white supremacy and hate in all forms, and I strongly condemn this behavior," Stivers, of Ohio, said in a tweet.

The haters are emboldened and are running for office and worst, they are getting elected.

Too Far?

We have hate crime laws here in the U.S. that protect LGBT people on the local, state, and federal levels and they can involve jail time.

Switzerland votes to send people to prison for homophobia and transphobia

Switzerland has voted to make homophobic and transphobic crimes punishable with up to a three year prison sentence.

The National Council voted to criminalise homophobic and transphobic acts, putting it on a par with the way the country treats racism.

The council voted 118 for and 60 against to introduce a prison sentence for homophobia and transphobia.

However, the motion still needs to be passed by the Council of States before it can become law.

Here in the U.S. it is very hard to prove a hate crime because it goes to motive, unless they use derogatory statements like using f****t, or words.

Just because they attacked a trans person or a gay or lesbian doesn’t automatically make it a hate crime.

At a women's volleyball game on a Monday night in São Paulo, the stands are packed and those in attendance are decidedly rooting for the away team.

A large portion of the audience has come to see one of the away team's players in particular, Tifanny Abreu, the first transgender woman to play in Brazil's premier female volleyball league.

She may also become Brazil's first transgender lawmaker in its national Congress.

Under the campaign slogan "Why not?", she is running for the lower house in the general election on 7 October, defying those who think that a transgender woman cannot make it into the highest legislative body.

"Tifanny you're my hero in life and in sports!" a teenage boy says as she leaned over the barrier and got cheek-to-cheek for a selfie.

But Ms Abreu surprised many by announcing that she would run for a traditionally conservative party, the governing Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (MDB).

Aires is one of 53 transgender candidates running for state and federal offices in Brazil, a deeply conservative and religious country that is also one of the most dangerous in the world for the transgender community. Last year, 179 trans people were killed in Brazil, up from 144 in 2016, according to Brazil's National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals. So far this year, 122 have been killed.

The boom in transgender candidacies — there were only five trans candidates during the last general election in 2014, and none were successful — comes as Latin America's largest nation struggles to emerge from its worst recession in decades, and the political class has largely been discredited amid a massive corruption scandal involving billions of dollars in kickbacks to politicians.

The presidential poll leader, far-right congressman Jair Bolsonaro, has a long history of offensive comments about gays, trans people, women and minorities.

For transgender candidates, Bolsonaro's candidacy — the candidate has said it would be better to have a dead son than a gay son — both invokes fear and stands as potential galvanizer to get people out to the polls.

Despite widespread discrimination and grim statistics — LGBTQ groups estimate that 35 is the life expectancy of transgender Brazilians — there are signs of change.

Earlier this year, Brazil's highest court ruled that people could change their name and gender on their identity cards by simply asking to do so. Previously, any legal change required sex reassignment surgery and court filings.

Why is this law important for the transgender community in Chile?Imagine being a transgender person in Chile. The law did not used to be clear about your right to legally change your name and your gender marker (e.g. “F” or “M”). This led to a lot of abuse. Some transgender people who sought these changes were subjected to medical examinations and other humiliating and degrading tests, even though what they sought to do is exercise a fundamental human right. The law also addresses discrimination, providing important new protections.

But the whole debate around the law was also useful in many ways, as it brought LGBTI advocates more into the public eye, educating the public about the discrimination that exists and the fixes we need to collectively undertake to ensure that all LGBTI people lead lives free from abuse and discrimination.

Was it very difficult to win support for a law that respects the rights of transgender people?We spent a lot of time negotiating with people who had a lot of misconceptions about transgender people. And to be honest, we talked to a lot of people who may have come into these conversations thinking a lot of hateful and unfair things about transgender people. But along the way, you realize these prejudices can be overcome and you can make some allies who will help you when you need it.

The presence of organized anti-rights groups was a challenge, as they focused on spreading disinformation on the content of the bill, inventing false language that the bill never included to stir up hate. For example, they invented the claim that the bill would force operations on children, a clear human rights violation that the bill would never include.

Everywhere is the same… go for the movable middle

Whether you are running for office or trying to pass a law, the rule of community organizing is the same. Tell those who are against you that you don’t agree, the ones that support you thank them, and then focus your efforts and money on those who are undecided.
