“I write to express outrage over this preventable loss of innocent life,” Moreno said, in the letter to Lamont. “If it were not for policy you championed, which allows illegal aliens to receive a ‘drive-only’ license, this young man may have reached his destination.”

“While one death alone is an inexcusable tragedy, Connecticut has granted over 60,000 such licenses to illegal aliens, putting countless Americans at risk on the roads. This insanity has to stop,” Moreno added.

Moreno wrote in the letter, “Quite simply, your policies are killing my constituents.”

A tragedy is a tragedy. But a tragedy does not automatically prove the policy you oppose caused it, nor does one person's alleged wrongdoing justify portraying 60,000 people as a threat.

This is my outrage... One out of 60,000! So, Governor, because of one person who committed this crime, you want to paint all immigrants with one brushstroke?

So, Governor, you are outraged?

You know what that shows me? It shows me that you are a xenophobe and that you are trying to stir up anger and hatred against immigrants. You are turning this woman's death into a political weapon.

That is what I find outrageous.

Yeah, But...

This totally doesn't make sense that the 14^th Amendment wasn't ever being considered back then!

The Supreme Court’s Birthright Citizenship Decision Hinges on a Case You’ve Never Heard Of

On April 1, the Supreme Court hears oral argument in Trump v. Barbara, a class-action lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship for certain people. No one will be surprised to hear lawyers discussing the text of the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause and the history that led to its ratification—that clearly relates to the Trump administration’s claim that birthright citizenship doesn’t apply to children of “undocumented” or “temporarily present” noncitizens because their parents cannot establish “domicile,” meaning permanent presence in the country. But court watchers may not expect to hear debate about an 1844 inheritance case from New York. Yet that case, Lynch v. Clarke, has become incredibly important. Indeed, it may be instrumental in determining the fate of millions of American-born infants.

In the 1844 case, Judge Lewis Sandford held that Julia Lynch, the child of Irish parents who was born during their “temporary sojourn” in New York, was a U.S. citizen. The issue arose amid a heated battle over the fate of Lynch & Clarke, a firm that sold bottled spring water from Saratoga Springs to New York City residents in the early 1800s. Thomas Lynch and John Clarke were partners in the firm until Lynch died in 1833. Lynch had no will, and his only surviving heirs, which included his brother Bernard and a deceased brother’s daughter—his niece Julia—lived in Ireland. A year after Thomas’ death, when Julia was 15, she and her uncle Bernard sailed to New York and geared themselves for a fight for Thomas’ property.

I would like to point out the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1866!

Sandford also rejected Bernard’s argument that Americans had abandoned the English concept of birthright citizenship. He acknowledged that American authorities had rejected some aspects of British law and society. But he concluded that birthright citizenship was by now distinctively American. As Sandford recounted, the Founders understood that their new nation was, in James Madison’s words, “indebted to emigration for her settlement and prosperity.” American authorities therefore embraced the rule of birthright citizenship, referring, for example, to a “natural born citizen” in various statutes and cases.

You know that the current Supreme Court Juices are so called "Originalists" so this goes to show that it was where you were born matters, not your parent's nationality. Kind of shots holes in the Republican's argument.

The lawsuit by the Greater Boston Latino Network and Brazilian Worker Center was filed in federal court in Boston and marked the first case to challenge the constitutionality of a policy laid out in a May memo ICE issued that became public last week as a result of a whistleblower complaint.

The policy marked a departure for ICE, whose agents in the past had generally been barred from entering private homes and businesses without a warrant signed by a federal judge.

When before did we have government barging into out homes?

But as President Donald Trump’s administration ramped up immigration enforcement last year in its quest to carry out mass deportations, the acting head of ICE issued a memo that advised its agents they could rely instead on administrative warrants.

Lyons in the memo said DHS Office of General Counsel had “recently determined the U.S. Constitution, the Immigration and Nationality Act, and the immigration regulations do not prohibit relying on administrative warrants for this purpose.”

Those warrants, also known as Form I-205s, are issued by officials within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including ones in ICE itself.

There is one thing I know for certain: you cannot get a "yes" or "no" position out of a lawyer. It is always preceded by, "In my opinion..."

The Law Fare analysis concludes:

This raises a big question: Can ICE enter a home to make an arrest without a judicial warrant?

The standard view has been that administrative warrants can't authorize home entry because they're executive branch orders, and the executive branch can't be in charge of deciding whether to give itself a warrant.  Under Payton v. New York, 445 U.S. 573 (1980), the government needs an arrest warrant to enter a home to make an arrest.  But Payton refers to a "judicial officer" inserting his judgment "between the zealous officer and the citizen," and the immigration officer who signs a Form I-205 is not a "judicial officer." That's the traditional thinking.

That thinking is captured by Judge Wright's reasoning in the Kidd v. Mayorkas opinion.  Judge Wright was addressing the broad category of administrative warrants, which included the subcategory of Form I-205 warrants, and here's what he wrote:

If that's the DHS argument—and I'm just speculating about that—I think the problem on the merits is that there's been a lot of water under the bridge since Justice Frankfurter's opinion in Abel.  Coolidge from 1971 and Shadwick from 1972 settled the idea that a warrant requires a neutral and detached magistrate. Payton from 1980 settled that a judicial warrant is needed for entry.  To go back to the 1960 opinion in Abel, and to read its dicta as binding without considering the Supreme Court's later holdings in Coolidge, Shadwick, and Payton, seems pretty problematic.

There is one thing that I know for certain is that you cannot get a yes or no position out if a lawyer... it is always preceded with "In my opinion..."

It's always hard to offer a take on a legal argument when you have to speculate about what the legal argument is, so my take on this is tentative.  But if I had to summarize my current thinking, it seems to me that the DHS policy is likely wrong in light of Coolidge, Shadwick, and Payton, although the DHS position is not frivolous in light of Abel as interpreted in Malagerio—and the trickier issue may be actually getting a merits ruling on the issue in court in light of the absence of remedies due to the Supreme Court's gradual cutting back on Bivens remedies. Or at least that's my tentative take without actually getting to see the DHS legal analysis, and with the caveat that I don't know the administrative law remedies that may be available.

It is my opinion that, with all this legal wrangling, it is we—the citizens—who are getting screwed!

On the road in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, President Donald Trump tried to emphasize his focus on combating inflation, yet the issue that has damaged his popularity couldn’t quite command his full attention.

The president told the crowd gathered at a casino and resort in Mount Pocono that inflation was no longer a problem and that Democrats had used the term “affordability” as a “hoax” to hurt his reputation. But his remarks weaved wildly to include grievances he first raised behind closed doors in his first term in 2018 — and later denied saying — asking why the U.S. doesn’t have more immigrants from Scandinavia.

“Why is it we only take people from s—-hole countries, right?” Trump said onstage. “Why can’t we have some people from Norway, Sweden, just a few?”

Translated from Trumpspeak: "We don't want people from Black and Brown counties, only from white countries like  Norway and, Sweden."

Trump said he objected to taking immigrants from “hellholes like Afghanistan, Haiti, Somalia and many other countries.” He added for emphasis that those places “are a disaster, right? Filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.”

President Donald Trump admitted Tuesday that he used the slur “shithole countries” to disparage Haiti and African nations during a 2018 meeting with lawmakers, bragging about a comment that sparked global outrage during his first term.

Back then, Trump had denied making the contemptuous statement during a closed-door meeting, but on Tuesday, he showed little compunction reliving it during a rally in Pennsylvania. He went on to further disparage Somalia as “filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.”

Trump was boasting in his speech that he had last week “announced a permanent pause on Third World migration, including from hellholes like Afghanistan, Haiti, Somalia and many other countries,” when someone in the crowd yelled out the 2018 remark.

For Trump everything boils down to race. His tirades on immigration... immigration from White countries is okay but not from Third World countries (i.e. from Black and Brown countries,)

 “We had a meeting and I said, ‘Why is it we only take people from shithole countries,’ right? ‘Why can’t we have some people from Norway, Sweden?’” Trump told rallygoers.

“But we always take people from Somalia,” he continued. “Places that are a disaster. Filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.”

Simply put... Trump is a bigot and his loyal followers are also bigots. Congress is not finally also questioning his policies,

Immigration groups and lawmakers are sharply criticizing Donald Trump’s latest move to halt immigration applications from 19 countries already under US travel restrictions, a decision that comes amid reports that naturalization ceremonies for people on the travel ban list are also being canceled.

On Tuesday US Citizenship and Immigration Services posted a policy memo that announced an immediate “adjudicative hold” on all asylum applications “regardless of the alien’s country of nationality”, as well as a review of individuals from “high-risk countries” who entered the US following Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.

The 19 countries include Afghanistan, Burma, Burundi, Chad, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Laos, Libya, Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, and Yemen – all of which have either partial or full travel restrictions.

In a statement to the Guardian, Human Rights Watch’s US director, Tanya Greene, said: “Nothing meaningfully links these 19 countries except the administration’s opportunistic stigmatization and exclusion of people based on where they were born. This sweeping change is not about safety; it is about scapegoating entire nationalities for the actions of one individual. This policy will tear families apart, endanger people fleeing persecution and further damage US credibility on human rights.”

Similarly, the National Immigrant Justice Center said: “The Trump administration is using the tragic shooting of two national guard members to scapegoat and roll out yet another ban on Black and brown migrants. Where there is grief and heartbreak, the Trump administration sees opportunity – ie, the opportunity to unveil more racist and anti-immigrant policies.

Like father, like son.

I Don't Know If They Can Read.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

I don't know about you but I don't see any wiggle room in that. "All persons born..." that is pretty straight forward.

The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case on whether some children born in the US have a constitutional right to citizenship.

On his first day in office in January, President Donald Trump signed an order to end birthright citizenship for those born to parents who are in the country illegally, but the move was blocked by multiple lower courts.

No date has been set yet for the Supreme Court arguments, and a ruling is months away.

Whatever the court decides could have major implications for Trump's immigration crackdown and for what it means to be an American citizen.

There is only one way for the court to decide. It doesn't say except for... There are no qualifiers in the wording...  "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction..." it doesn't say "except for those of undocumented parents." and they are most definitely "subject to the jurisdiction" they are being held by ICE & CBP to court hearings.

I don't have any information on it but it happens all too often, a judge order a person not to be deported... and the CBP and ICE saying "Ops sorry we didn't get the court order until it was too late. The Trump administration admitted it “inadvertently” deported a transgender woman to Mexico this month after a judge ordered she not be removed to the country over fears she may be tortured or violently persecuted.

The government has said it will allow Britania Uriostegui Rios, a Mexican national, to return to the US if she is able to make it to the border. Once she has returned, she will be placed back in ICE custody while the administration tries to deport her to a different country, court documents show.

The case marks the latest example of the Trump administration wrongfully removing someone protected by court orders or special status as it works to carry out the president’s goal of a history-making mass deportation program. Uriostegui Rios is at least the fifth such case this year, including the administration’s dramatic legal showdown over the removal – and eventual return – of Salvadoran man Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

What I think is that the courts orders sits on someone's desk until it is too late to stop the deportation.

Politico reports that;

Uriostegui Rios, a Nevada resident with a long criminal rap sheet, lost her status as a lawful permanent resident in 2023, after pleading guilty to a felony assault with a deadly weapon. After she received a suspended criminal sentence, Uriostegui was quickly placed in deportation proceedings, and an immigration judge ordered her deported from the country earlier this year.

However, the judge also barred the administration from sending Uriostegui Rios to Mexico, finding a likelihood she would be tortured or killed as a result of her transgender status.

Despite that order, lawyers for Uriostegui Rios say that on Nov. 11, without warning, she was abruptly transported from Louisiana to Texas and placed on a bus that dropped her off in Mexico. After the attorneys inquired about the deportation, the Justice Department acknowledged the error.

Yeah, she was a bad woman but the courts said stop for a minute while we work this out but it seems like both ICE & CBP just ignores the courts. It is not a question of whether or not she should be deported, it is a question why didn't  ICE & CBP obey the court order!

A Department of Homeland Security official said in a statement that Uriostegui Rios would be brought back to the U.S. until another country is found for her deportation.

Yeah, right! How much "looking" will the DHS do?

“The end result will be the same — Rios will not be able to remain in the U.S. and will be removed,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “The fact of the matter is those who are in our country illegally have a choice — they can leave the country voluntarily or be arrested and deported. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, the days of criminal illegal aliens indefinitely remaining in the U.S. are OVER.”

Um... she ignored the third option... the courts! When the courts say no... you don't go ahead and deport them.

After threatening last weekend to go “guns-a-blazing” into Nigeria in defense of Christian Nigerians, President Donald Trump has ended protection for another group facing violence and political instability. On Wednesday, the Trump administration terminated temporary protected status shielding immigrants from South Sudan from deportation, even though the African nation has faced escalating violence, political instability, and food insecurity in recent weeks. 

The announcement stands in stark contrast to another recent decision from the administration to give Afrikaners priority for asylum, even as the State Department moved to severely limit refugee admission to the United States. The president has justified prioritizing white South Africans by spreading misleading claims about the persecution and killings of white farmers.

After Trump threatened to deploy military action in Nigeria over claims that Christians were being persecuted, and designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” for alleged violations of religious freedom, Nigerian officials and regional experts quickly fired back.

“We are not proud of the security situation that we are passing through, but to go with the narrative” of a Christian genocide, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, a spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Al Jazeera, “no, it is not true. There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided a South Shore apartment building overnight as the city braces for a possible military deployment.

Residents and neighbors are speaking out at what they call a traumatic event.

"My building is shaking. So, I'm like, 'What is that?' Then I look out the window, it's a Blackhawk helicopter," said witness Dr. Alii Muhammad.

ABC7 spoke to Pertissue Fisher, a woman who lives in the building. She said ICE agents took everyone in the building, including her, and asked questions later.

"They just treated us like we were nothing," Fisher said.

Fisher said she came out to the hallway of her apartment complex on the corner of 75th and South Shore Drive in her nightgown around 10 p.m. Monday only to find armed ICE agents yelling "police."

I think that this is all going to end very baddy, tempers are going to flare and we will have a Kent State all over again but what will be different is Trump will be in charge and he will make up lies to declare marshal law and bring in the troops.

Podcaster Joe Rogan is backing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s war on “woke garbage” and “fat generals.”

“Well you saw what the f— was going on over the last four years,” Rogan said on his podcast Tuesday, in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “You got guys in dresses talking about how it’s really important to have inclusiveness, ‘It’s the most important thing about the military, it’s inclusivity.’”

“We had crazy people that were in charge of very important positions, including that guy that was stealing women’s clothes. That guy was in charge of like f— nuclear waste and he’s running around stealing people’s underwear,” he added.

On Tuesday, Hegseth said to the military’s senior-most officers that he doesn’t want to see “fat generals and admirals” or overweight troops. While talking in Quantico, Va., the Defense secretary emphasized the need to keep in line with strict fitness standards, stating all service members at every rank is required to take a physical fitness test, and meet height and weight requirements twice a year.

WTF! With all the sh*t going on in this country the right-wing is focusing on fat generals! ICE used helicopters to land on an apartment building in Chicago! Wearing battle dress like military like they are on the streets Kabul not Chicago! Raided the apartment house without any warrants! Claiming that it was a bed of immigrants drug pushers! They also raided a homeless shelter. The Chicago Sun Times reported.

Armed federal agents in military fatigues busted down their doors overnight, pulling men, women and children from their apartments, some of them naked, residents and witnesses said. Agents approached or entered nearly every apartment in the five-story building, and U.S. citizens were among those detained for hours.

The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents with Border Patrol, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested 37 people in the raid. DHS said some of those arrested “are believed to be involved in drug trafficking and distribution, weapons crimes and immigration violators.”

And the right wing pundits are yakking about fat generals!

DeSantis announces plans for second immigration detention facility dubbed ‘Deportation Depot’

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration is preparing to open a second immigration detention facility dubbed “Deportation Depot” at a state prison as a federal judge decides the fate of the state’s holding center for immigrants at an isolated airstrip in the Florida Everglades known as “Alligator Alcatraz.”

DeSantis announced Thursday that the new facility is to be housed at the Baker Correctional Institution, a state prison about 43 miles (69 kilometers) west of downtown Jacksonville. It is expected to hold 1,300 immigration detention beds, though that capacity could be expanded to 2,000, state officials said.

After opening the Everglades facility last month, DeSantis justified building the second detention center by saying President Donald Trump’s administration needs the additional capacity to hold and deport more immigrants.

A nationwide debate over immigration law raises a question: Should undocumented immigrants be entitled to due process when taken into custody?

That question is gaining traction here in Indiana, not just because of planned ICE detention centers, but also because of comments made by Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith.

At a town hall in Terre Haute, Beckwith claimed that undocumented immigrants don't deserve due process. It's a claim that is sparking backlash from immigration advocates and attorneys who say the Constitution disagrees.

Those comments echo a broader policy push, one the Trump administration has supported, but currently hangs in limbo as a U.S. district judge paused an effort to expand fast-track deportations.

They have no understanding of the Constitution or the laws... it is all political ideology driven.

That question is gaining traction here in Indiana, not just because of planned ICE detention centers, but also because of comments made by Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith.

At a town hall in Terre Haute, Beckwith claimed that undocumented immigrants don't deserve due process. It's a claim that is sparking backlash from immigration advocates and attorneys who say the Constitution disagrees.

President Donald Trump pledged on Sunday to evict homeless people from the nation's capital and jail criminals, despite Washington's mayor arguing there is no current spike in crime.

While details of the plan were unclear, the administration is preparing to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, a U.S. official told Reuters, a controversial tactic Trump used recently in Los Angeles to tackle immigration protests over the objections of local officials.

Does any of this sound familiar... maybe you learned it in the 11 or 12 grade?

Back in the 1930s & 1940s the Nazi regime targeted the “asocial” population: homeless people, beggars, alcoholics, sex workers, Roma, LGBT people, and others deemed “undesirable.” The way they treated the Roma has troubling parallels with the way undocumented immigrants are today.

From history we have learned that the early stages of authoritarianism often begin with:

• Targeting vulnerable groups,
• Using dehumanizing language,
• Normalizing state overreach,
• And shifting public tolerance for civil rights violations.

Where are we today?

The Melting Pot

Okay—everyone who knows what that means, raise your hand.

But were we ever really a melting pot?

Or were we only a melting pot for White Anglo-Saxons?

It certainly wasn’t true for Black people, who were dragged here in chains. We weren’t a melting pot for Mexicans. And we weren’t a melting pot for the Asians who came here to build our railroads.

As the country entered the era of the Robber Barons, we started to pass anti-immigration laws. The first major one was the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. We wanted to ban people who “didn’t look like us.” At the same time, railroad barons still wanted cheap labor—so they imported workers from Asia.

In an article from Reason, they describe what happened:

On February 28, 1882, Sen. John F. Miller of California introduced a bill to exclude Chinese immigrant laborers from the country. For two hours, the former Union general presented his case. The Chinese, Miller said, posed an imminent danger, in part because they came from a "degraded and inferior race."

Other senators joined in, calling them "rats," "beasts," and "swine." They claimed that Oriental civilization was incompatible with American life and would corrupt the nation.

Chinese immigrants also posed an economic threat to white workers, Miller argued, because of their "machine-like" efficiency and "muscles of iron." He claimed that American laborers—on farms, in factories, and workshops—couldn’t compete with such low-paid workers. A vote for exclusion, he said, was a vote for American labor and the public good.

Later came the Geary Act of 1892, which extended the exclusion and required Chinese residents to carry identification papers. Then, another wave of immigration laws swept through in the 1920s.

This wasn’t 2025—it was 1882.

The Immigration Act of 1917 expanded the exclusions to cover more Asians. And for the first time, the idea of a visa was introduced—formalized in the 1924 Immigration Act (Johnson-Reed Act), which created quotas to limit immigrants considered “undesirable.”

These laws were passed for one reason: a combination of racial prejudice, economic anxiety, xenophobia, and nationalism. In other words, they were designed to limit non-English-speaking, non-White immigrants.

And now, here we are again.

Trump. Anti-DEI. Anti-immigrant policies.

Trump administration asks Supreme Court to allow ban on transgender military troops

The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to let the Defense Department ban transgender people from serving in the military while that policy change is being challenged by transgender servicemembers.

The Justice Department on April 24 said a lower court improperly second-guessed the Pentagon’s assessments of the risks of allowing transgender people to serve rather than given the military the “substantial deference” the Defense Department’s judgements are owed.

No, I don't think that the judge made a mistake... Trump & Company couldn't find any reason for kicking us out of the military except that they hate our guts.

The ban was paused on March 27 by a federal judge in Washington state. A three-judge panel of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the administration's request to let it enforce the policy for now.

Now Trump is marching back in court with more of his lies.

“The government’s arguments are not persuasive, and it is not an especially close question on this record,” Settle said.

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., reached a similar conclusion on March 18 in a related challenge by transgender members of the military. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes' order temporarily blocking enforcement of the policy is on hold while it's being reviewed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Judges on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals who held a hearing on the issue on April 22 pushed the administration for evidence to back up their justification of the ban.

So now he is back in the Supreme Court saying that... We don't need any justification other than the president wants them banned!

Jason Manion, a lawyer for the Justice Department, said the government isn’t required to provide such evidence and that courts are supposed to defer to the military on policy questions. But Manion added that President Donald Tump’s policy is basically similar to one from his first term that was upheld by the Supreme Court and is based on a 40-page study featuring expert testimony.

But you know what? Trump & Company have a hard time reading the Constitution, things like the The Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees equal protection under the laws. They 

conveniently forget about those things.

Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday issued a memo of directives to Justice Department employees to enforce the Trump administration’s policies targeting gender-affirming care for minors, according to a copy of the memo obtained by CNN.

The memo comes after President Donald Trump issued an executive order in January titled, “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.” The executive order targets minors that identify as transgender and says that the United States will not “fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support” minors who are seeking gender-affirming care.

“Pursuant to the President’s directive, I am issuing the following guidance to all Department of Justice employees to enforce rigorous protections and hold accountable those who prey on vulnerable children and their parents,” the memo from Bondi said.

But... but.. There is a court order blocking it! Just a minor little detail that the AG is forgetting! The ACLU writes,

In a victory for transgender youth, their families, and their medical providers, a federal district court today issued a temporary restraining order blocking enforcement of a Trump administration executive order attempting to shut down access nationwide to gender-affirming medical care for transgender people under 19. The temporary restraining order issued by Judge Brendan Hurson can be found here.

Trump's cronies don't like the courts, they are not enforcing trump pogrom against us! The CNN article goes on to say,

Bondi’s memo specifically targets the medical community, saying that it has given families “misleading advice,” when seeking the help of medical professionals for this type of care.

Major mainstream medical associations — including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the Endocrine Society, the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry — have affirmed the practice of gender-affirming care and agree that it’s clinically appropriate care that can provide lifesaving treatment for children and adults.

“The medical community, with its roots in hard science, is well-positioned to serve as a bulwark against this sociological disease,” Bondi’s memo said. “And indeed, parents who are desperate to help their confused, frustrated children have understandably turned to medical professionals for help.”

I have no idea how this will all play out in the Supreme Court... it is a shot in the dark!

 A federal judge in San Francisco on Thursday blocked Donald Trump's administration from withholding federal funding from several so-called sanctuary jurisdictions that have declined to cooperate with the Republican president's hardline immigration crackdown.

U.S. District Judge William Orrick issued the injunction, opens new tab at the request of 16 cities and counties nationally led by San Francisco that in a lawsuit filed in February argued that the administration was unlawfully trying to force local officials to cooperate with federal immigration arrests.

During his first term as president, Trump in 2017 signed a similar executive order targeting sanctuary jurisdictions. San Francisco sued then too, leading Orrick to block the policy in a ruling that was upheld by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Orrick said a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of Trump's latest executive order was likewise warranted as the local jurisdictions had established that Trump's order likely unconstitutionally imposed conditions on federal funding without congressional authorization and ran afoul of the localities' due process rights.

A divided Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for the Trump administration to use a controversial wartime authority to deport alleged members of a Venezuelan gang, but said detainees must first have an opportunity to challenge their deportations.

The 5-4 ruling did not touch on the underlying legal questions about the government’s use of the Alien Enemies Act, one of the most high-profile and contentious immigration enforcement actions so far in President Donald Trump’s second term.

Instead, the majority ruled that the five Venezuelan immigrants who challenged the policy did so in the wrong court, leaving open the possibility that those targeted for deportation could refile their case in Texas or other jurisdictions where they are detained.

“The detainees are confined in Texas, so venue is improper in the District of Columbia,” the justices wrote of the challenge in U.S. District Court in D.C. “As a result, the Government is likely to succeed on the merits of this action.”

Wait a minute contrary to all the headlines on the front pages this morning it seems like the court said... no cigar, try again in the right court.

Now don't those headline sound like a major defeat for the Venezuelan immigrants?

The ruling said detainees are entitled to notice within a reasonable time frame and must have an opportunity to challenge their removal, including the government’s use of the wartime act.

The decision appears to take the central legal issues of the case away from Judge James E. Boasberg of U.S. District Court in Washington, whose temporary restraining order blocking the deportations prompted impeachment calls from Trump and his allies and triggered a showdown between the president and the judiciary.

So I would say that this ruling muddles the water a lot on the issue of deportation. It looks to me like it was kind of a draws down to: Trump won the use of the Act, but the Venezuelan immigrants won the right to challenge the deportations in court.

President Donald Trump has likened Mahmoud Khalil to a terrorist sympathizer. Others portray him as a Palestinian activist, singled out for his outspoken support for his own people.

But long before he was arrested by federal agents Saturday night, Khalil told CNN he felt called to advocate for the liberation of both the Palestinian and Jewish people as a refugee.

“As a Palestinian student, I believe that the liberation of the Palestinian people and the Jewish people are intertwined and go hand-by-hand and you cannot achieve one without the other,” he told CNN last spring when he was one of the negotiators representing student demonstrators during talks with Columbia University’s administration.

“Our movement is a movement for social justice and freedom and equality for everyone,” he said.

Khalil, who completed work on his masters degree from Columbia University in December and is a legal resident of the US, was arrested and detained by federal agents after his lawyer said his green card was revoked by the Trump administration.

The thing is because he is here legally Trump just can't throw him out, there is a legal process that must be done first.

A federal judge blocked any immediate effort by the Trump administration to deport Khalil, late Monday afternoon. Judge Jesse Furman ordered a hearing on Khalil’s case to be held Wednesday morning in New York City.

“He was chosen as an example to stifle entirely lawful dissent, in violation of the First Amendment,” she said in a statement. “The government’s objective is as transparent as it is unlawful.”

Exactly. To keep protesters who protest stuff that Trumps likes, Trump has ignored the laws to create fear in people with Green Cards.

Trump warns that arrest of Palestinian activist at Columbia will be ‘first of many’

President Donald Trump warned Monday that the arrest and possible deportation of a Palestinian activist who helped lead protests at Columbia University will be the first “of many to come” as his administration cracks down on campus demonstrations against Israel and the war in Gaza.

Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful U.S. resident who was a graduate student at Columbia until December, was detained Saturday by federal immigration agents in New York and flown to an immigration jail in Louisiana.

“We know there are more students at Columbia and other Universities across the Country who have engaged in pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity,” Trump wrote in a social media post. “We will find, apprehend, and deport these terrorist sympathizers from our country — never to return again.”

It doesn't really matter what the court outcome will be because it has already had a chilling effect on those here legally.

Khalil’s detention drew outrage from civil rights groups and free speech advocates, who accused the administration of using its immigration enforcement powers to squelch criticism of Israel.

He is the first person known to be detained for deportation under Trump’s promised crackdown on student protests.

Federal immigration authorities also visited a second international student at Columbia on Friday evening and attempted to take her into custody but were not allowed to enter the apartment, according to a union representing the student.

He is doing the same thing with our community, all of Lord Trump edicts have been blocked by the courts, but Trump knew they would be... so now he has another arch-villain,,, the "activist courts." that rules against him.

In Trump eyes "...the right of the people peaceably to assemble..." only applies to pro-Trump rallies, all others are unlawful! Mark my words, this summer we will see federal troops called out to quench peaceful protests that Trump has labeled illegal!

For years, Giorgia Meloni has railed against Italy’s migration policies, calling them overly lenient and saying they risk turning the country into the “refugee camp of Europe.”

Now that she is Italy’s presumed next prime minister, migration is one of the areas where Meloni can most easily bring in sweeping change.

Italy had an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 unauthorized immigrants, followed by France with 300,000 to 400,000. The remaining European countries had an estimated 1.2 million to 1.4 million unauthorized immigrants.

Unauthorized immigrants in Europe are from all over the globe. About 30% came from countries in the Asia-Pacific region in 2017, while another 23% were citizens of the handful of European countries that are not part of the EU or EFTA. So when you hear a candidate say they want to stop the flood of undocumented immigrants ask them how they are going to do that? How are they going to get jobs for them in their native country? How are they going to end poverty in the third world countries.
