 Trailblazing feminist icon Gloria Steinem died at her New York City home on Wednesday, per a statement on her social media. As many of her obituaries will attest, Steinem publicly challenged gender stereotypes in the earliest days of her journalism and activism careers, dating back to the 1960s.

Though her legacy of feminist activism also included a hefty amount of advocacy on behalf of transgender people, that was not always the case. Steinem’s earliest known writing on trans people, from a February 1977 issue of Ms., the magazine which she co-founded a few years earlier, waded into the debate on transgender athletes — which, yes, was happening half a century ago. The article, “If the Shoe Doesn’t Fit, Change the Foot,” concerns Renée Richards, a tennis player who had transitioned in the 1970s. In the article, Steinem wrote that “we ought to be very, very suspicious of the social reasons for transsexuality as well as its big, star-spangled, commercial exploitation.”

Year, Steinem voiced support for some of the core tenets of Janice Raymond’s infamous 1979 book, The Transsexual Empire, which is considered a defining work of trans-exclusionary radical feminism. In a 2012 interview for Vassar College, Steinem referenced the book, saying, “Doctors were really profiting off this surgery and especially hormonal treatments. Hormonal treatments, in general, whether for fertility or for gender purposes, nobody knows whether they’re dangerous or not. And that’s a worry. I just think our choices need to be informed.”

Gloria Steinem, the journalist and organizer who became one of the most recognizable figures in American feminism and a longtime supporter of LGBTQ+ equality, has died. She was 92.

Steinem’s support for gay and lesbian people was visible early in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Time reported in 1977 that gay activists persuaded her to travel to Miami as they fought Anita Bryant’s campaign to repeal Dade County’s ordinance prohibiting discrimination against gay people. Speaking later that year at an American Association of University Women convention, Steinem said lesbians were “the most vulnerable group of women” and argued that the word lesbian had to become “as honorable as any other.”

Steinem was among the prominent supporters of the Human Rights Campaign Fund in its early years.

 But she was back then anti-trans. But in an Advocate article from 2013 she writes,

 Such stories led me to write a 1977 essay reminding us that, in addition to supporting informed choices like those of Jan Morris, Renee Richards, and others in the news at the time, we also needed to change society to fit individuals. It asked the question: If the shoe doesn't fit, must we change the foot?

Years passed the Internet arrived, and words circulated out of time and context. Last year one young transgender student on campus assumed that old essay's use of the word "mutilate" for surgeries performed because of societal pressure meant I was against sexual reassignment surgery altogether. He didn't consider that it had been written two generations before he was born, and also in the context of global protests against routine surgical assaults, called female genital mutilation by some survivors.

So now I want to be unequivocal in my words: I believe that transgender people, including those who have transitioned, are living out real, authentic lives. Those lives should be celebrated, not questioned. Their health care decisions should be theirs and theirs alone to make. And what I wrote decades ago does not reflect what we know today as we move away from only the binary boxes of "masculine" or "feminine" and begin to live along the full human continuum of identity and expression.

Trump is known for stalling, and his administration is doing the same. Back in the first part of the year, a judge ordered the ban on unescorted media access to be lifted. Here it is in August, and they still have no unescorted access. Why? Because of legal wrangling; the Pentagon won a key legal appeal in July. Now that is being adjudicated in the courts.

Then there is the case of Stars and Stripes. The newspaper has a special law from Congress dictating its independence from the military. The Secretary of Defense, Hegseth, fired editor-in-chief Erik Slavin, publisher Max Lederer, and reporter Lara Korte because they printed a story on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Then there is this, reported in The Intercept:

U.S. Central Command maintains a secret directory of journalists who have been blacklisted by the press office, according to an official with CENTCOM public affairs. The disclosure comes amid a failed war in Iran, a “cover-up” of U.S. casualties from that conflict, and repeated refusals by CENTCOM to address questions about civilian deaths in Iran, including the killing of a family recently disclosed by The Intercept.

The CENTCOM official who revealed the existence of the list threatened that this reporter could be added to it for calling the command too often.

“You’ll be put on a list of people to disregard,” Richard Allee, an executive assistant with CENTCOM public affairs, told this reporter. When asked for clarification — “You have a list of people to disregard?” — he confirmed it with an emphatic “Yes.” When asked which reporters or outlets were currently on the list, he replied, “I’m not privy to give you that information.”

Remember the sayings: “No news is good news” and “Whoever controls the press controls the mind.” Well, the current administration keeps the news close to its chest.

It was the conditions of the USS Abraham Lincoln coming to light that started the chain of events.

The story breaks; sailors jump ship.

Why?

Lack of food, sanitary system backups, low morale.

Why?

Resupply bases bombed, supplies destroyed, causing ships to have shortages.

Why was the ship deployed so long?

The war is going on longer than planned.

Did firing the planners and the logistics people have anything to do with it?

This whole thing reminds me of the song “For the Want of a Nail.”

I would say that this whole war is a clusterfuck, since even before the planning started, and I think the real reason they want to cover it up is their own incompetence.

CBS New just published a list of fired officers and civilians.

Here are the military and civilian leaders who've been fired, forced out or resigned since Hegseth became defense secretary

At least 20 generals, admirals and civilian defense leaders have been fired or have departed their jobs since Pete Hegseth became defense secretary at the beginning of the second Trump administration. 

Some of the military's most decorated leaders have either been fired by Hegseth and President Trump or have retired with little explanation, including the Army, Navy and Air Force's highest-ranking officers and the leaders of key units. The Army and Navy's top civilian leaders have also either been forced out or resigned.

Before becoming defense secretary, Hegseth had criticized military officers, accusing them of being too focused on diversity initiatives and insufficiently supportive of frontline service members. Before he was nominated, he said on a podcast that "any general that was involved — general, admiral, whatever — that was involved in any of the DEI woke s*** has got to go."  

The Trump administration has pushed out top female and Black officers, and Black and female officers have been disproportionately removed from promotion lists, a source familiar with the lists told CBS News. There are currently no active four-star women generals or admirals in the military. Many of those who failed to secure promotions have left the military.

My worries are that the "new" generals are loyal to Hegseth and not the Consitution

In the aftermath, initial media coverage misgendered and deadnamed Nadeau, a common macroaggression trans people face after becoming the victim of a violent crime. But for Kasper DeWitt, Juju’s partner of two years, she was so much more than a name in a headline. To her loved ones, DeWitt says, Nadeau lit up the world. She was “divine.”

For us in the community, it is doubly hard to lose a friend and have her dissed. Them goes on to write:

Her loved ones plan to honor her energy by sewing some of Nadeau’s fursuit into their own, retiring the well-loved hyena by burning it, and throwing the biggest party ever.

But the mainstream media... not a peep out of them. It is almost as if somehow she was dirty or unclean.

On June 25, Ava Le'Ray Barrin, a 17-year-old transgender girl, was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Athens, Georgia, according to TransGriot. Ava is the 14th transgender person allegedly murdered so far in 2017. But news reports have been incorrectly identifying Ava, using what's known as her deadname. Deadnaming, unfortunately, is a common practice when transgender people are killed, and it highlights the lack of respect transgender people experience both in life and in death.

What sets the case of Mr. Martin apart from the other two cases? Race.

When a White man shot a Black man, the NRA publicly defended the Stand Your Ground principle. But when a transgender person is attacked, knocked to the ground, and the incident is captured on video, the NRA hasn't said a thing.

Crickets!

The prosecutor in this case needs to be called into question as well. They have seen the video, yet they are proceeding with the case.

A trans woman in Wyoming is facing two felony charges — aggravated assault and possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent — after pulling out a gun on someone who had pushed her to the ground, per Slate.

Rihanna Kelver was standing outside the Crowbar & Grill in Laramie, Wyoming, when a man — whom local state news publication Cowboy State Daily identified as Scott Durham — began to shout homophobic and transphobic slurs at her. Durham later shoved Kelver to the ground with such force that she injured her tailbone, per court testimony and surveillance footage reviewed by Slate. In response, Kelver drew a pistol from her bag, put in a round and pointed the weapon at Durham, which caused him to flee. Kelver, per Slate, kept the safety on and never fired.

Despite Wyoming’s “Stand Your Ground” statute, which allows people to use reasonable force in moments of self defense, Kelver faces up to 15 years in prison for both charges, as well as up to $11,000 in fines, per Cowboy State Daily. Kelver faces an additional year and $1,000 fine for a charge of interference with a peace officer.

Per the statute, “A person who uses reasonable defensive force … shall not be criminally prosecuted for that use of reasonable defensive force.”

Why is she being prosecuted?

In other cases involving Wyoming's Stand Your Ground law, authorities have declined to prosecute. Wyoming's law establishes that a person lawfully present who is attacked has no duty to retreat before using reasonable defensive force.

And let's be clear: Ríhanna was already on the ground. She was surrounded by people after being knocked down, where exactly was she supposed to retreat to?

The judge's ruling also needs to be examined.

The Laramie Reporter reported:

On Tuesday, Albany County Circuit Court Judge Robert Sanford ruled the felonies can be tried in district court. He rejected a request from the defendant’s lawyer to dismiss the charges outright.

The charges can bring up to 15 years in jail plus fines!

If you were on X at all at the end of last week, then you probably had the misfortune of seeing the term “Detrans” trending. For those who didn’t investigate, here’s the unpleasant rundown: “Detrans” is the latest short film from the Prager University Foundation (better known as PragerU), a conservative nonprofit group best known for its videos that present archaic viewpoints on various civic and social justice topics.

Its latest documentary is about a small handful of people who transitioned as young people and then decided to detransition later. This film is not trending because people love or hate it, by the way. PragerU reportedly paid X $1 million to shove its agenda into everyone’s faces. This tactic should be terrifying to anyone who values speech, because it essentially boils down to a massive misinformation campaign. Although people who detransition certainly exist and are entitled to sharing their story, they account for only about 1% of all trans people.

So you know that the documentary’s creators aren’t acting in good faith when they withholds that context and make it look like giant swaths of trans people regret their decision to affirm their gender. The film makes it seem like kids everywhere are being tricked into being trans — and that this is a widespread problem we should all be worried about.

The Southern Poverty Law Center wrote this about PragerU;

Despite its name, Prager University, more commonly known as PragerU, is not an accredited academic institution in any sense. Instead, it specializes in promoting far-right propaganda through professionally produced media. The organization, which claims it “promotes the American values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” perpetrates far-right ideology vilifying the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants and people of color.

And these are the exact people Donald Trump is using for his "Freedom 250" program, a blatant rip-off of America 250, the bipartisan, congressionally mandated commission planning community celebrations. To make matters worse, many Republican-led states are now officially using PragerU materials in their public schools!

PragerU was founded in 2009 by Allen Estrin and conservative radio host Dennis Prager. The organization was conceived as a digital media project presenting viewpoints in a succinct and engaging format as “a free alternative to the dominant left-wing ideology in culture, media, and education,” according to the PragerU website.

Since its founding, PragerU has expanded its activities well beyond its initial video series. The organization now produces a broad range of media content including short educational videos, articles, podcasts and social media posts. PragerU’s goal is to indoctrinate and mobilize a conservative audience by framing issues in a way that is both accessible and compelling. This approach has allowed the organization to build a substantial following and influence public discourse on a variety of issues. According to the organization’s own metrics, 30 million unique viewers watch PragerU videos on YouTube every quarter. The PragerU site notes that 60% of YouTube viewers are under the age of 35. Additionally, the organization claims that 55% of its viewers say their civic actions were influenced by PragerU videos, and 85% say they reference PragerU videos during ideological discussions.

They are nothing more than a propaganda machine for the far-right. As the HuffPost article concludes:

Another gag is that the end of the documentary includes a clip of Oli London, who made headlines for claiming to be a “transracial” Korean and who is now a conservative anti-trans advocate. It’s disturbing to be reminded that, for those who don’t personally know any trans people, these types of documentaries might be the only content about trans people they’ll ever interact with. It’s fear-mongering at its absolute worst, and we need to call it out.

The billionaires funding this project exhibit distinct authoritarian tendencies. They remind me deeply of the wealthy industrialists who historically backed the rise of Adolf Hitler.

On Thursday, CBS News and controversial editor-in-chief Bari Weiss shook up TV news gold standard, “60 Minutes.” This isn’t a minor tweak or slight change in philosophy. This is a major overhaul.

Weiss fired executive producer Tanya Simon, who had been with the program for nearly three decades and is part of CBS News royalty, (Her late father, Bob Simon, was a legendary CBS newsman).

Ever since CBS bowed down and kiss Trumps feet their ratings have dropped.

President Donald Trump lashed out at CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell in an interview Sunday for quoting from the manifesto of the suspected gunman who tried to storm the White House Correspondents Dinner less than 24 hours earlier.

Trump had initially expressed a sense of camaraderie with members of the press corps who hosted him at their annual dinner and experienced the same initial panic when armed law enforcement agents stormed into the ballroom.

But when O’Donnell, during an interview recorded at the White House on Sunday, quoted from the accused gunman Cole Allen’s apparent manifesto — “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,” she read — Trump, who’d been relatively subdued in his responses, flashed a familiar anger.

“I was waiting for you to read that because I knew you would, because you’re horrible people. Horrible people,” Trump said. “Yeah, he did write that. I’m not a rapist. I didn’t rape anybody.”

O’Donnell interjected, “Oh, do you think he was referring to you?”

But the president blew past her question, declaring, “I’m not a pedophile.”

Trump bristled at what he seemed to deem an insinuation about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, who was not mentioned by name in the manifesto or by O’Donnell. “You read that crap from some sick person,” the president said. “I got associated with stuff that has nothing to do with me. I was totally exonerated.”

Okay, here’s my take on this.

I’ve done it. You prepare for interviews by thinking through everything that might come up and practicing your responses. You practice a lot. Only once did I ever need to fall back on rehearsed answers, but the key is actually listening to the question; something Trump didn’t do here.

You plan it out: if they say this, you respond with that. If they bring up the manifesto, you’re ready with a clear reply. But she threw a curveball and followed up his answer with: “Oh, do you think he was referring to you?”

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is launching a new inquiry into the TV ratings system, including whether content related to gender identity is not adequately flagged for parents, in the latest warning shot to broadcasters from the agency headed by the Trump loyalist Brendan Carr.

The new proceeding, announced on Wednesday, asks for public comment on the transparency of the TV Oversight Management Board, which oversees the rating system and guidelines. That system was developed after Congress passed a law in 1996, leading to the creation of numerous ratings such as TV-Y, for programs deemed appropriate for all children, and TV-MA, for mature audiences.

The so-called “industry voluntary rating system” is used by broadcast networks overseen by the FCC, as well as cable, satellite and streaming services, which are not subject to the same guidelines.

Are you ready for this... a throw back to the 1930s!

In its public notice of the new inquiry, the FCC singled out non-binary and transgender topics as an issue of concern. According to the agency’s media bureau, “parents have raised concerns that controversial gender identity issues are being included or promoted in children’s programs without providing any disclosure or transparency to parents. Specifically, the industry guidelines that parents rely on are rating shows with transgender and gender non-binary programming as appropriate for children and young children, and doing so without providing this information to parents, thereby undermining the ability of parents to make informed choices for their families.”

Save the Children!!!! That is only a smokescreen.

What they are saying by labeling us is that we are dangerous, we are predictors! Can you imagine if they said programs with Black in has to be labeled? Well it is the same thing!

A new federal inquiry into television ratings is drawing sharp backlash from LGBTQ+ advocates, who warn it could mark a turning point in how the government treats queer representation in media.

The Federal Communications Commission, led by Chairman Brendan Carr, this week opened a public comment period on whether existing TV ratings should be revised to account for what the agency describes as “gender identity themes.” The move, outlined in a formal public notice, asks whether parents are being adequately informed when children’s programming includes discussions of gender identity and whether additional labeling or higher ratings may be warranted.

At this stage, the FCC has not proposed a rule change. The inquiry is an opening move, a request for public input that could, depending on how the agency proceeds, lead to formal revisions of the ratings system. Still, the questions it poses are unusually specific, focusing in part on whether shows rated TV-Y, TV-Y7, or TV-G should carry additional warnings when they include gender identity content.

“Americans should make their voices heard by submitting a comment that rejects this latest attempt by Brendan Carr’s FCC to manipulate the media, erode freedom of speech, and harm LGBTQ Americans,” Ellis said.

ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS... all shut out!

AP News reported that,

Pentagon reporters learned late Sunday about Hegseth’s briefing. Reporters from The Associated Press, Reuters, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and Stars & Stripes were permitted into the briefing room, but Hegseth did not call on them. Instead, he took questions from NewsNation and Trump-friendly outlets like the Daily Caller, Daily Wire, One America News and the Christian Broadcasting Network. Most mainstream news outlets left their regular stations at the Pentagon last fall rather than agree to Hegseth’s rules restricting their work.

Hegseth denounced the “foolishness” of people wanting to know details of the operation in advance, such as whether Americans would commit to more than air power, and said the operation would continue as long as it took to achieve objections. He initially ignored NBC News’ Courtney Kube when she called out a question: “President Trump put a four-week time limit on it. Are you saying he’s wrong?”

Later, Hegseth denounced Kube for asking “the typical NBC sort of gotcha-type question. President Trump has all the latitude in the world to talk about how long it might take — four weeks, two weeks, six weeks, it could move up, it could move back. We’re going to execute at his command the objectives he set out to achieve.”

The Federal Communications Commission is opening an investigation into whether ABC's "The View" daytime talk show violated equal time rules for interviews with political candidates after an appearance by a Democratic Texas Senate candidate this week, a source told Reuters on Saturday.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly pushed Carr to take action against U.S. broadcasters and criticized networks for what he views as one-sided coverage. The move is the first significant step by the FCC to go after networks for interviews with political candidates.

Gee… are they going after any conservative talk shows? Nope! The Hill writes,

Until January, talk shows have qualified for the equal opportunities exemption as genuine news interviews, ever since the FCC Media Bureau granted an exemption to the interview portion of Jay Leno’s "The Tonight Show" in 2006. Networks have relied on the ruling as a precedent for recent interviews with political candidates.

But is anyone surprised Trump & Company are attacking liberal shows? The LA Times reports,

For years, hosts of “The View,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” have freely parried with high-profile politicians without worrying about being subjected to the so-called “equal time” rule, which requires broadcasters to bring on a politician’s rival to provide balanced coverage and multiple viewpoints.

With the new guidance, the FCC appears to take a dim view of whether late-night and daytime talk shows deserve an exemption from the “equal time” rules for stations that transmit programming over the public airwaves. The move comes amid FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s campaign to challenge broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC in an effort to shift more power to local broadcasters, including conservative-leaning television station groups such as Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group.

But the FCC seems to be blind to talk radio! Talkers writes about the FCC ignoring talk radio.

According to a piece in , the Federal Communications Commission’s recent Guidance on Equal Opportunity Issues was pointed toward broadcast TV license holders and not radio is because, as FCC chairman Brendan Carr states, “There wasn’t a relevant precedent that we saw that was being misconstrued on the radio side asimg that wasn’t part of anything in that decision. It was focused on the potential misreading of precedents on the broadcast TV side. Of course, as you know, the rule applies to broadcast, radio and TV, but that one was focused on those TV precedents.” The memo to broadcast TV was relative to the 1996 bona fide news interview exemption that came about in the wake of an interview Jay Leno did with then-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on “The Tonight Show.” The FCC Media Bureau ruled that “The Tonight Show” did not have to give Schwarzenegger’s opponent equal time because that interview segment qualified as a bona fide news interview. This matter doesn’t seem to be a big one for news/talk radio since news/talk stations are viewed as news outlets, on top of the fact that most talk radio hosts would love the opportunity to interview candidates with whom they might not personally agree.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr said he’s not worried about enforcing political fairness from radio stations the same way he is with late-night and daytime TV.

Carr made waves last week by saying TV hosts must comply with rules requiring they give similar airtime to candidates of both parties. Lawyers have been puzzling over whether, or how, it would apply to talk radio, a traditional bastion of conservative voices. On Thursday, Carr said he didn’t see any reason to similarly press radio stations — although the same underlying rules apply.

TV broadcasters have spent years claiming an exemption from these rules in a way Carr hasn’t seen in the radio world, according to the agency leader.

“If you're fake news, you're not going to qualify as the bona fide news exception,” Carr said during a press conference after the agency’s monthly meeting?

And why is it? Is it because most talk radio shows are conservative?

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) writes on his government web-site,

In his letter to Webre and Boone, Blumenthal highlighted eight recent investigations and complaints by the FCC under Chair Brendan Carr that appear to focus on newsrooms and broadcast stations that may be disfavored by President Trump.

“Each of these eight actions single out media broadcasters that faced the wrath of President Trump during his Presidential campaign, including actual litigation or outright threats of investigations in retaliation for perceived negative coverage,” Blumenthal wrote. “This exclusive targeting to the apparent benefit of the President is further reflected in the fact that other media broadcasters, particularly allies of the President, have not faced any similar scrutiny.”

Blumenthal’s letter describes Carr’s apparent break from FCC’s past legal interpretations and guidance, including Carr’s own positions prior to becoming Chair of the FCC. The letter requests information and seeks documents about the legal standards that the FCC is now operating under. The letter also asks for information about what investigations the Commission has recently opened, including whether there are inquiries focusing on media entities favored by President Trump that have engaged in the same activities as those targeted by Carr.

It seems that Trump & Company have a very narrow definition of news based on political views.

Turning Point USA’s “All-American” Halftime Show will probably go down in history as the most painful thing I experienced this week, and that will include the root canal I have scheduled on Thursday.

While millions of Americans tuned into Bad Bunny’s much-anticipated performance during the real halftime show during the actual Super Bowl, I was tasked with watching and recapping the “All-American” alternative thrown by Erika Kirk (widow of the late conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk) and led by Kid Rock. There were also a handful of country music Z-listers I’d never heard of until this week. I can only assume this was some sort of karmic punishment for taking French instead of Spanish in high school.

At 7:41 p.m., a 15-minute countdown began on the livestream, as did a series of creepy, conservative ads for things such as the TPUSA “Make Heaven Crowded” tour and the United States Department of War, as well as vague concepts like “saving our civilization.”

But the best part was, when Kid Rock took the to the stage the Hindustan Times writes,

Kid Rock, known for songs like All Summer Long and Born Free, was heavily criticized after his performance. “Wow! Kid Rock may be the worst Lip syncer I have ever seen. If you're just going to lip sync it, why not have Mike Lindell or Dr. Phil do it for you?,” Republican Jack Kimble wrote.

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced Wednesday that it has determined San Jose State University violated Title IX due to its handling of a transgender former volleyball player. The university now has 10 days to comply with a series of agreements or risk "imminent enforcement action." 

The ED launched an investigation into the university last February after a highly publicized college volleyball season that saw seven teams forfeit games to SJSU amid the controversy. 

Former SJSU co-captain Brooke Slusser joined multiple lawsuits against the NCAA, the Mountain West Conference and representatives of the university after alleging she had been made to share changing spaces and bedrooms with trans teammate Blaire Fleming in 2023 without being told that Fleming is a biological male.

Of course Fox News is jumping up and down with glee!

"SJSU caused significant harm to female athletes by allowing a male to compete on the women’s volleyball team—creating unfairness in competition, compromising safety, and denying women equal opportunities in athletics, including scholarships and playing time," ED Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.

You know here in Connecticut they made the same claim! The judge in the case asked, "What injury (Legal injury, like a loss of income.) did they sustain from playing against a trans athlete?" The complaints could name any, they got athletic scholarships in colleges of their choice.

And of course Fox has to double down!

Nearly one year after Melissa Batie-Smoose slipped into unemployment after San Jose State University did not renew her contract as an assistant volleyball coach, she can watch the institution face consequences from the federal government. 

Batie-Smoose rose to fame in the "Save Women's Sports" movement when she filed a Title IX complaint against the university for its handling of transgender athlete Blaire Fleming, in the fall of 2024. Her complaint included the first public allegations that Fleming conspired with an opposing player to have SJSU volleyball co-captain Brooke Slusser spiked in the face during a match. 

She was suspended from the program, and later not brought back, and she hasn't been able to find work in her field since. 

Well yeah, she should have known that she became a hot potato. What did she expect?

I want to point out one thing, through out these Fox articles they say, "...school violated Title IX..." that is not true! It is a lie!

The Supreme Court has not ruled against us in any case! So once again the right-wing media, lies! We will not know until the court rules on this latest case. It can rule against us, for us, or send the case back to a lower court.

After six hours of tense debate, overwhelming Republican majorities in the state Legislature voted on Wednesday to pass a bill that mandates restroom use in government buildings based on one’s sex assigned at birth.

The policy won support from more than two-thirds of the state House and Senate — enough to override a likely veto by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly and pass the bill into law.

The bill requires government entities, including public schools and universities, to segregate restrooms and locker rooms by sex. Individuals could be fined $1,000 and criminally charged for repeatedly using facilities that do not match the sex they were assigned at birth.

Democratic lawmakers rejected that argument.

“What this bill is about is about sending a very clear message to people who are transgender that you are not welcome and you are not safe here,” said Democratic Rep. Abi Boatman, a transgender woman who filled a vacancy in the House earlier this month.

“I have sat here for five and a half hours and listened to this entire room debate my humanity and my ability to participate in the most basic functions of society,” she said. “I hope none of you have to ever sit through something like that.”

Why did they not want hearings? Are they afraid that the public will see through their bigoty? They are rallying their MAGA base but they are also angering the other voters!

Total U.S. student-athletes: roughly 8–10 million, for trans athletes we are roughly 0.4–0.5 % of high school athletes (~35,000) — but this figure is indirect, based on extrapolation and not an official count!

Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old nurse fatally shot by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis on Saturday, appeared to confront federal agents less than two weeks before his death, newly published video footage shows.

A video published by The News Movement, a digital media company, seemed to show Pretti kicking a government vehicle and being tackled to the ground on a city street January 13.

The BBC reported on Wednesday that the man in the video “has the same coat, facial hair and gait as Alex Pretti and a facial recognition tool suggests a 97% match.” CNN later reported that Pretti’s family confirmed to the outlet that he is the man in the video.

Okay we have already establish that the fact he carried a gun irrelevant, he was properly licensed to carry it.

“During the altercation, agents fired tear gas and pepper balls into the crowd,” The News Movement narrator says. “They continued to hold the man down before they retreat and he walks away.”

The day before the video was published, sources told CNN that Pretti sustained a broken rib after he was tackled by federal officers roughly a week before he was killed. DHS said it had “no record of this incident.” It’s not clear if the alleged incident is the same one as portrayed in the newly released video.

This has no bearing on the murder!

They are just trying to cloud the fact that he was murdered in clod blood.

Renee Nicole Good calmly said everything was “fine” and “I’m not mad at you” seconds before an on-duty Immigration Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot her in Minneapolis as she drove away, according to a cellphone video shared Friday by Donald Trump’s White House.

The partisan media outlet Alpha News first posted the video on X, a 47-second clip that showed the perspective of the ICE agent – and captured a man’s voice calling Good a “fucking bitch” after she was mortally wounded. It was then shared by the White House’s official Rapid Response X account as well as JD Vance, with the vice-president writing in part that he agreed with the notion that Good’s death was “a tragedy” but accused the media of dishonestly covering the circumstances of her killing.

The agent filming the video has again walked in front of Good’s car from passenger side to driver’s side. Good briefly backs up and drives forward while turning to her right. The agent’s phone then abruptly points skyward, and he can be heard saying: “Whoa!”

That moment of the clip is consistent with another video in circulation that shows the agent get slightly brushed by the car, which is moving so slowly that the officer is able to easily retain his balance.

Gunshots then erupt without the officer putting the phone down. A voice says, “Fucking bitch,” as Good’s car briefly comes into view while it drives away. A loud crash is then heard.

The ICE agent who killed Good, an American mother of three, has been identified as Jonathan E Ross. Ross, a 10-year veteran of the special response team of ICE’s enforcement and removal operation, was taking part in an immigration sweep in Minneapolis on Wednesday at the time that he fatally shot Good. In June, Ross had been dragged by a vehicle while participating in the arrest of an undocumented immigrant with an open ICE detainer and a criminal conviction for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old stepdaughter in 2022.

Do you think that being by "dragged by a vehicle" might have affected the ICE officers? Her wife said,

Rebecca Good, meanwhile, published a statement saying: “On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns. We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness. Renee lived this belief every day. She is pure love. She is pure joy. She is pure sunshine.

“Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.”

As he approached Renee Good’s vehicle on a Minneapolis street on Wednesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jonathan Ross held up his phone camera and recorded video.

Less than a minute later, he was still recording when he drew his weapon and fatally shot Good as she accelerated.

That extraordinary footage, along with video shot by bystanders and a 3D model created by CNN of the confrontation, shows Good and her wife challenging ICE officers – but also raises new questions about Ross’s tactics and decision to use deadly force.

The video evidence also appears to undermine elements of the government’s narrative of what happened.

CNN’s analysis found that while the Department of Homeland Security claims that Good was “blocking” ICE agents, multiple cars – including one driven by Ross – were able to drive around Good’s vehicle before the shooting.

“I think the part of it that’s the most telling is when he walks by her and she’s smiling,” said former Philadelphia police commissioner Charles Ramsey, who is a CNN contributor. “She doesn’t look anything like a domestic terrorist. That’s for sure … although you don’t know what’s in her mind.”

As I write this from Michigan, where Planned Parenthood just announced the closure of four clinics that provide gender-affirming care, I find myself furious at the Washington Post's shameful endorsement of RFK Jr.'s anti-trans pseudoscience report focused on transgender youth and lifesaving, evidence-based gender-affirming care. This isn't just poor journalism — it's a dangerous abdication of responsibility at a moment when trans people need media allies more than ever.

The Post's editorial board, which has rightfully criticized RFK Jr.'s Department of Health and Human Services for pushing vaccine misinformation and autism conspiracy theories, seems to have suddenly developed selective blindness when it comes to transgender healthcare. They describe a 400-page screed — commissioned through an executive order declaring that transgender people don't exist — as "careful" and "thorough."

This is journalistic malpractice.

When they only cover one side that is media bias.

The Post either doesn't understand this distinction or chooses not to. Either option represents a catastrophic failure of journalism at a moment when accurate reporting could literally save lives.

For those of us covering trans issues in Michigan, watching major media outlets normalize pseudoscience feels like watching the guardrails of democracy crumble. When the paper of Watergate can't distinguish between legitimate medical consensus and politically motivated junk science, we're all in trouble.

Our trans community members are preparing for the worst — stockpiling medications, planning interstate moves, living in fear that their very existence might become illegal. They deserve better than newspapers treating their healthcare as a political football rather than a human right.

During the struggle for marriage equality the media interviewed dozens of religious leaders... but they were all from "fire and brimstone" churches, none from affirming churches. So the take-away was all churches were against marriage equality and that perpetuated the belief that all religions were against marriage equality!

New data reveals gaps in follow-through on transgender news coverage

Transgender news coverage surged in 2023 as lawmakers introduced a wave of anti-trans legislation, but new data shows that attention quickly dropped off—leaving much of the real-world impact on trans people underreported.

The Trans News Initiative is an interactive project that tracks five years of national coverage across more than 200 publications, analyzing how news organizations have covered transgender people.

The project—a collaboration among the Trans Journalists Association, the University of Miami School of Communication and Polygraph—reveals spikes in attention during legislative flashpoints are often followed by sharp declines, even as policies continue to reshape people’s lives.

Kae Petrin, a co-founder of the Trans Journalists Association, said the initiative grew out of years of recurring conversations with reporters and editors about gaps in coverage.

We have this image of a newspaper editor, covered in ink, editor's visor, and standing over a press, but now it is some billionaire who owns a stable of newspapers shaping the news.

“The things that really rise to the top in terms of journalists covering it consistently and repeatedly tend to be high-level, sort of ‘cancel culture’ debates,” Petrin said.

At the same time, stories that examine how laws are implemented, how people navigate new restrictions or how communities respond and adapt are far less common.

“You see a lot less coverage of the things that are actually happening to trans communities,” Petrin said. “There’s a lot less coverage… about pre-existing forms of discrimination or even just about creativity and the counter-narratives from trans people.”

Petrin emphasized that this pattern reflects a broader distinction between visibility and understanding. While newsrooms have made progress on language and terminology, deeper structural problems remain.

When I was being interviewed we were trying to tell the reporter to check the AP Stylebook for the story, the reporter got very indigent that we were trying to tell him how to do the story. But it finally sunk in that we were just saying for pronouns, etc. us the stylebook and a lot of reporters do not have a clue on interviewing trans people!

Meanwhile our healthcare is hurting! KFF (Formerly known as Kaiser Family Foundation) writes in January of last year, Trump issued "Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to The Federal Government" and it had a hard it on the wellbeing of our community!

Implications: This order is broad, directed to all federal agencies and programs. Because federal health programs reach LGBTQ+ people, and some are specifically designed to be inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community, or account for gender identities in addition to biological sex, this Order could widely affect program funding, guidance, and access. It has several possible implications:

The terms used in the Order include several biological and social inaccuracies which could perpetuate misinformation about LGBTQ+ people and transgender people’s health needs. It also takes steps towards ban gender care in certain area, most explicitly in prisons.

Requiring that federal funds are not used to “promote gender ideology” has caused significant confusion. Since this order was issued, there have been multiple reports of HIV programs and community health centers that have lost funding as a result of supporting programs inclusive of transgender people. In addition, there have been reports that some health care facilities paused providing youth with gender affirming care, fearing that federal funding would be withheld according to this and another Order relating to youth access to gender affirming care (see separate entry). (See court decisions below.) Withholding care could lead to negative health outcomes for those that require it.

Data collection and data presentation/distribution have been impacted. At first some data was removed from federal websites, though due to court order this appears to have been restored. If public health messaging and services related to the health needs of transgender people, or other specific populations, are unavailable, this may result in adverse health outcomes such increased disease prevalence, greater difficulty with care engagement, and poor mental health outcomes. There have been reports that gender identity questions will be removed from federal surveys which makes tracking the experiences and well-being of LGBTQ+ people more difficult.

Implications: If fully implemented, the Order would broadly and extensively limit access to gender affirming care for young people, across a range of payers and providers. Access to gender affirming care is associated with improved mental health outcomes for transgender people and limiting this care with negative ones, including poorer mental health outcomes. Additional impact includes:

• The executive order includes details about sex, gender identity, gender affirming care, and transgender people that conflict with science and evidence. These inaccuracies include suggesting that large shares of youth are seeking gender affirming medical care, that regret rates among those seeking care are high, and conflating “female genital mutilation” and gender-affirming care. This has the potential to promote hostility, stigma, and discrimination, and can lead to care denials.

• It seeks to remove Federal reference to one of the standards of evidence-based care for transgender people in the US. Directing the HHS Secretary to develop new guidance without this standard, and in accordance with this and other orders, could limit agency ability to identify standards that adequately meet the needs of transgender people.

• It also seeks to condition federal research and education grants on grantees not providing young people with gender affirming care.

• There has already been some confusion with certain states and providers looking to preemptively comply with the order and another Order relating to “gender ideology” (see separate entry).

• The order lays groundwork for the Administration remove explicit protects for LGBTQ+ people in health care, including with respect to accessing gender affirming care. Specifically, the Order suggests a reinterpretation of sex protections in Section. 1557 of the Affordable Care Act void of explicit protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

• The order leans on laws and policies unrelated to gender affirming care in an effort to limit access to those services including by erroneously conflating gender affirming care and female genital mutilation, using the FDA regulatory process to limit access, and suggesting kidnapping protections be applied to parents in certain circumstance.

The Republicans don't care about the harm but rather it is about energizing their base and campaign donations! It is all about power!

The 60 Minutes story that CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss abruptly pulled from the air on Sunday has been leaked—and the network is responding with copyright takedowns.

Canadian broadcaster Global TV aired the segment, which deals with Venezuelan migrants to the U.S. whom the Trump administration deported to CECOT, the notorious prison in El Salvador. Videos of the segment—in some instances, people recording their television screens—began circulating on Monday. But many didn’t last.

Paramount Skydance, CBS News’ parent company, began issuing a flurry of copyright notices on X, YouTube, and other platforms.

A drag queen Christmas tour has become an annual holiday tradition in Florida – and in recent years, so has the ensuing backlash.

Now in its 11th year, A Drag Queen Christmas, featuring performers from RuPaul’s Drag Race, will stop in the Florida Panhandle city of Pensacola on Tuesday night, despite state officials’ best efforts to cancel the show for what they claim is an “anti-Christian” performance at a city-owned theater.

The state attorney general has spent nearly two months lobbying Pensacola officials to cancel the show, to no avail. Instead, the 1,600-capacity tour stop is sold out.

The show is going on! WEAR TV reports,

A controversial traveling show is performing Tuesday night at Pensacola's Saenger Theatre.

Florida attorney general James Uthmeier criticized the city for allowing "A Drag Queen Christmas" at a taxpayer-funded facility. It's the only show to sell out the venue this year.

Uthmeier and hundreds of Pensacola residents have addressed city council asking them to cancel the show.

The city owns the Saenger Theatre, which is why residents who disagree with the content of the show have spoken out against it.

Funds from the city go towards the facility itself for things, like maintenance and upkeep, not towards the show itself.

"If the council were to decide that they wanted to just cancel this contract, I think they would expose the city to immediate and significant risk, legal and financial liability," Pensacola City Attorney Adam Cobb said.

Yeah... like tons of lawsuits! This is a show that is on TV! The article ends with...

Council President Jared Moore said cancelling the show before it ever happens is the same as issuing a speeding ticket before a driver is caught speeding.

The UK’s biggest businesses are rolling back their public support for Pride celebrations, Guardian analysis suggests, prompting warnings that “clear signals” are needed in the face of growing global LGBTQ+ hostility.

Analysis of social media posts by the country’s biggest companies found mentions of Pride had plummeted by 92% since 2023, mirroring a trend seen in large American firms.

The findings come after the US president, Donald Trump, signed a series of executive orders in 2025 that overturned federal government diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programmes, leading companies on both sides of the Atlantic to rebrand, scale back and even scrap fairness policies.

The Guardian analysed the main customer-facing social media accounts of the 10 biggest UK-listed or headquartered companies, and the 10 biggest US companies by market capitalisation.

Sponsorship Marking Association reported;

While most company’s public statements regarding their decision to drop Pride sponsorships cite factors such as the economy, budget constraints and marketing priorities, their anonymized responses to topical survey questions are likely closer to the truth.

Approximately 60% of companies responding to the Gravity Research poll cited the Trump administration—with its opposition to DEI initiatives and anti-trans policies—as the primary reason for changing their approach to LGBTQ+ support, with conservative activists and policymakers ranking second and third in influence.

For now, we will save the debate over whether corporations are being prudent and responsible to their shareholders and other stakeholders by trying to steer clear of government retribution and avoid consumer controversy and potential boycotts or whether making a commitment to the LGBTQ+ community would be the right thing to do both ethically and for their bottom lines.

Meanwhile, others have moved to drop DEI from their agenda altogether.
