Hate Comes To Connecticut

Another Pride flag is torn down from a church in Windsor.

A Pride flag was torn down from the front of First Church in Windsor last week, prompting the church’s senior minister to condemn the act and promise that the flag will be replaced.

The Rev. Dr. Ned Allyn Parker discussed the incident in an open letter posted Tuesday. Parker said he believes the flag was removed to intimidate the church or silence its message of support for LGBTQ+ people.

“When a symbol of welcome is torn down, the message sent to LGBTQIA+ people is that their dignity is negotiable,” Parker wrote.
No other news source in Connecticut has carrying this, I guess bias crimes are becoming common here.

Sadly. Things Like This Are Increasing.

The swamp creatures have gotten the green light.
Hartford Courant
By Kaitlin McCallum

A 45-year-old Manchester man has been arrested in connection with harassment of a local Islamic center after multiple abusive phone calls were received.

According to Vernon Police, Jason Biggar, 45, is accused of making multiple unsolicited phone calls “containing derogatory and offensive remarks targeting the victim and the victim’s religious beliefs.”

In an arrest warrant for Biggar, the reporting police officer recounts voice recordings allegedly of Biggar, in which the caller uses profane language to slander the victim, Muslims, Arab countries and the prophet Muhammad, and seems to imply that U.S. law allows him to do so.

“So you’re going to record it and then what happens in America? … So what are you going to do, you mother (expletive)? You’re in America. America mother (expletive). This is not a (expletive) Islamic country. … you don’t want to live by the American values. My people have been here for 300 (expletive) years. Your people have been invading here for 30, 40, 50 years … If we ever met in person I would spit right in your face,” the transcription of the recorded call reads in part.
Why? Oh why do people do these things? Where does the hate come from?
A police officer went to Biggar’s house, where Biggar refused to cooperate, the warrant said. He reportedly “refused to open his door or speak with me outside. Biggar was immediately agitated by my presence telling me to get off of his property … he denied making any calls. He then continued to yell over me as I was trying to speak,” the warrant said.
He knew that he fucked-up.

He knew that he messed up.

These incidents are mainly from the “right.” The political rhetoric and language coming from them is what is stirring the pot.

When you look at the targets of their hate, it is against minorities: racism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim sentiment, anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment—all the “-isms.” The question is: why, in the last dozen or so years, has there been a dramatic increase in bias crimes?

When you look at violence from the “left,” it seems to be more of a reaction to the hate directed at them and other minorities.

Violence is never the answer!

What seems to have broken down, though, is the social pressure against bigots. It almost seems that the actions of this administration are actually encouraging it with their language. Some of the adjectives Trump has used to describe Muslims are: “radical Islamic terrorism,” “radical Islam,” “Muslim ban” (travel restrictions), “terrorist,” and “dangerous.” They are all designed to stir up hate.

He uses similar rhetoric against us, calling us: “radical,” “crazy,” “insane,” “dangerous,” “confused,” and “extreme.”

You see the same language being parroted back by his loyal followers.

The Courant article ends with...
“Public condemnation of these acts is essential to ensuring that hatred is never normalized and that every resident can worship freely and safely,” he said.
Remember... when you hear mean, intervene!

All Under One Roof

The bill passed and is going on to the governor to sign.

Hun? What passed and what does it have to do with us?

It is a bill consolidates all the bias crime statues all in one section and standardize the crimes and punishments. For example a bias crime of assault might be different depending if was because of race or from religion, there could also a difference in sentencing a bias crime against a gay person verse a trans person.

In additions they were all in different parts of the criminal code.

So the bill brought them all under one umbellar with standardize sentencing.

The state’s numerous hate crimes would be consolidated into a single law under the provisions of a bill that passed the General Assembly with wide bipartisan support. A similar bill passed the House last year but died in the Senate when the session ended.

Senate Bill 90, An Act Revising and Consolidating the Hate Crimes Statutes, passed the state House of Representatives 139 – 8 Tuesday morning. The bill had previously passed the Senate 36-0 on April 28.

“Hate crimes are not ordinary crimes,” said state Rep. Steven Stafstrom, D-Bridgeport, the House chair of the Judiciary Committee. “The anger, anxiety and vulnerability ratchet across our neighborhoods and entire communities.”

When someone is attacked because of who they are — be it their race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation — the harm extends beyond the victim and sends a message of fear and exclusion to everyone who shares that identity, he said.

Hate crimes have risen nearly 50% in Connecticut since 2021, Stafstrom said. He added that there were 130 such crimes reported in the first three quarters of 2024. Nationally, he said, hate crimes had doubled in the last decade.
I don't like calling it a "hate crime" because some argue that they don't hate they just want us back in the closet.
The bill now heads to Gov. Ned Lamont for his expected signature.
Well yeah... it was a "Governor's" bill.

There was opposition to the bill... you want to guess by which party?

In another CT News Junkie article from back in March they write...
House Bill 6872, proposed in January by Gov. Ned Lamont, seeks to consolidate Connecticut’s multiple hate crime statutes – some of which were written as far back as 1880 – into one new hate crime chapter in the Connecticut General Statutes. This consolidation effort would also clarify some of the existing statutes by providing uniformity to the language used to describe protected groups and by removing the requirement under the law that a defendant must have acted “maliciously.”

The changes and consolidations were recommended by the Connecticut Hate Crimes Advisory Council, which was created by the General Assembly and tasked with increasing community awareness and reporting of hate crimes. Governor Lamont appointed the council members in June 2021.
An we were reappointed last year.

A Blue Heaven

We tend to think of the northeast as a liberal heaven but we are not homogenous there are pockets of conservatives here. Here in Connecticut it is the northeast corner of the state that sticks up it's red neck, So it should comes as no surprise that...

Pittsford Village Mayor Alysa Plummer is asking for people to come forward with information about 63 ribbons, bearing the colors of the transgender pride flag, that were taken off of poles in the village, calling the act "mean-spirited" and "deliberate."

The nonprofit organization that put them there, Pittsford CommUNITY, raised concerns, saying they were supposed to remain until April 4.

"We put up ribbons for Transgender Day of Visibility," said Tharaha Thavakumar, president of Pittsford CommUNITY. "We received a permit. We applied for a permit in the village."

When volunteers returned to take them down, they were already gone.

"We found out that nobody in our group had taken them down, (and) we then went to the mayor and asked if she knew of any staff the village staff had taken it down," Thavakumar said. "They said no. And so that's when we decided to file a police report."
They have surveillance video of the culprit in a green hoodie and the town is asking for its citizens to check their video on the night in question.
"It's a sign of belonging," Thavakumar added. "When something like ribbons get taken down, it just tells people that we're not welcome here, which, you know, it's not just the transgender community, but anybody that's marginalized who feels like they don't belong."
And when the town backs us up... it makes us feel welcomed.

Trump & Company & The Trans Community

The rhetoric coming out the White House and the Republicans has caused a drastic increase in violence against the LGBTQ+ community.

The Trump administration has been trying to label our community are anarchists but, the reality is that we are the victims of that animosity.
Over half of the incidents documented in a new report targeted transgender and other gender non-conforming individuals.

A grim new report documents over a thousand attacks on LGBTQ+ people in the United States in 2025, following Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.

The report from ALERT Desk, GLAAD’s Anti-LGBTQ Extremism Reporting Tracker, catalogues 1,042 anti-LGBTQ+ incidents in 47 states and Washington, DC in 2025, a five percent increase over 984 incidents in 2024.

The incidents included 128 acts of vandalism, 76 assaults, 22 threats of mass violence, and 15 arson attempts.

Over half of the incidents targeted transgender and other gender non-conforming individuals, a 10% increase from 2024.
All as a direct result of all the lies coming out of Washington!
  • 51% of incidents targeted transgender and gender non-conforming people, a 10% increase from 2024
  • June 2025 saw a nearly 400% increase in incidents since tracking began in June 2022
January 27, 2026
In 2025, the ALERT Desk tracked 1,042 anti-LGBTQ incidents in 47 US states and the District of Columbia. These included 128 acts of hateful vandalism, 76 violent assaults, 22 threats of mass violence, and 15 arson attempts. This is up from 984 incidents tracked in 2024, a 5% increase in hate.

We remember and honor the lives of those taken by hate-fueled violence in 2025 – Rodolfo Fernandez de Velasco, Chris Allen Villegas Fentress, Jonathan Joss, Christina Hayes, Dream Johnson, and Alvin Prasad – along with more than 70 others injured during anti-LGBTQ attacks.

[...]

Key Findings From The 2025 ALERT Desk Recap

  • Incidents targeting transgender and gender non-conforming people are on the rise. Over half (532) of all tracked incidents in 2025 specifically targeted transgender and gender non-conforming people, a 10% increase from the 485 anti-trans incidents the ALERT Desk documented in 2024.
    • Context: Despite making up less than 1% of the population, transgender and gender non-conforming people are at increased risk of harm. As politicians campaign on stripping legal protections from transgender Americans and high-profile social media accounts baselessly frame trans people as “dangerous,” research consistently shows that transgender people are four times more likely than cisgender people to be victims of violent crime — as we saw in the tragic murders of Christina Hayes in Detroit and Dream Johnson in Washington, D.C.
  • Pride 2025 saw a dramatic rise in incidents, making it one of the most dangerous years on record for LGBTQ Americans. The ALERT Desk tracked 268 incidents during June 2025, a nearly 400% increase from the 54 incidents tracked in June 2022 when GLAAD began its data collection.
    • Context: The heightened visibility of LGBTQ Americans during Pride Month can be a double-edged sword. The openness and joy that characterize our community are also wielded by opponents as an opportunity to showcase their anti-LGBTQ extremism.
  • In 2025, states at the center of political debates over the rights of LGBTQ people led the US in terms of number of incidents. States with the most incidents are: California (198), New Hampshire (72), Texas (66), Ohio (50), and Washington (50).
    • Context: In 2025, each of these states helped drive national conversation about the rights of LGBTQ Americans.
      • California: Gavin Newsom made waves by inviting guests on his podcast who spread harmful, inaccurate rhetoric about transgender people.
      • New Hampshire: Opponents of transgender people drew media attention after they filed a lawsuit against a school district in the small town of Bow, in an attempt to force the local school district to allow them to harass a transgender player on the high school girls’ soccer team.
      • Texas: Greg Abbott ordered the immediate removal of all Pride-themed crosswalks across the state, many of which had been in place for years, and over the wishes of local communities and the private donations used to create and maintain the sites.
      • Ohio: The City Club of Cleveland invited a lobbyist from an SPLC-designated anti-LGBTQ hate group to speak as part of its “civic engagement” program. Local pushback helped spark a one-sided Congressional hearing seeking to curtail the rights of non-profit organizations.
      • Washington: Seattle’s mayor drew the ire of residents after they permitted a so-called Christian group that activates against LGBTQ people to hold a rally in Cal Anderson Park – an integral part of Seattle’s queer neighborhood and a memorial to Washington State’s first out gay legislator.
It is also having an impact on the Pride Centers!

It was standing room only Tuesday night as the Sacramento LGBT Community Center hosted a town hall focused on community safety.

The meeting comes just six weeks after a Halloween attack Sacramento police say was hate-motivated, leaving the victim critically injured and a suspect in custody on felony assault charges.

The LGBT Community Center says it has also been targeted recently, with someone smashing a window and a group of people trying to tear down its Pride flag.

People packed the center, asking questions about how resources are being used to keep the community safe.

"The city needs to stop this as soon as possible. Until it does, there needs to be more on-site security," said Will Green, a Sacramento resident.
The Quest Night club that was where a terrorist attack happen3e back in 2024 was burned down this week.

Central Alabama Pride President Josh Coleman visited the burned-out Quest nightclub on Friday after a Thursday night fire and reflected on its role in the life of Birmingham’s LGBTQ community.

“Today I stopped by what’s left of the Quest,” wrote Coleman in a Facebook post.

The Quest opened in 1982 and closed in 2024.

“I had been asked to talk with NBC News and ABC News about the fire and about what the Quest meant to Birmingham. After the interviews, I couldn’t resist walking a little closer and looking at the destruction for myself. Standing there, I realized just how many memories are tied to that place.”
And that is what Bias Crimes do, it is not just an attack on one person or business, but rather an attack on a whole community!

It has been a very bad year!

Oh... Ohio!

The Republicans in Ohio are trying so hard to be the biggest a*s in passing anti-trans laws!

Ohio ranked fourth in the nation in 2025 for the highest number of anti-LGBTQ+ incidents, with 51 reported cases, according to a new report from GLAAD.

California ranked first with 198, then New Hampshire with 72 and Texas with 66, the organization said in its 2025 Alert Desk report released in late January. Nationwide, GLAAD tracked 1,042 anti-LGBTQ+ incidents in 47 states and the District of Columbia between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025. The marks a 5% increase from the 984 incidents recorded in 2024, according to the report.

In Ohio, the 51 incidents included 20 protests, 19 instances of propaganda distribution, five acts of vandalism or damage, two acts of harassment, two bomb threats and three arson attempts.

The report found that 268 incidents occurred last June, making it one of the most dangerous Pride months since GLAAD began collecting data in 2022. That figure represents nearly a 400% increase from the 54 incidents tracked in June 2022.

GLAAD said states at the center of political debates over LGBTQ+ rights led the country in total incidents. In Ohio, the report cited controversy after the City Club of Cleveland invited a lobbyist from the Center for Christian Virtue, designated as an “anti-LGBTQ+ hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, to speak as part of its civic engagement programming.
The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Ohio), CAIR Action, the ACLU of Ohio, the Ohio Divest Coalition, and a diverse coalition of partners testified against Ohio Senate Bill 87 (SB 87), legislation that would codify the controversial IHRA definition of antisemitism into state law on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

The coalition included lawyers, doctors, educators, veterans, and faith leaders from Muslim, Jewish, Christian, and other communities. Together, the coalition members advocated for free speech and human rights for people of all backgrounds. More than 25 Ohioans from across the state testified against the bill in-person, in addition to more than 67 others submitting written testimony. A letter signed by more than 100 Jewish Ohioans opposing SB 87 was submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee, and more than 400 Ohioans signed an action alert urging lawmakers to vote no.
The bill would violate the First Amendment!
If passed, SB87 would expand the net of criminalization for speech using the IHRA definition of antisemitism that has been widely criticized as overbroad. Even Kenneth Stern, the principal drafter of the definition, has opposed its use by government agencies.
But wait — there’s even more. Last summer, Ohio lawmakers wanted to make attacks on politicians hate crimes…
The Ohio Capital Journal
By: Morgan Trau
August 28, 2025

A bipartisan group of Ohio lawmakers has introduced a bill making hate crimes illegal, increasing penalties for assaulting or terrorizing someone based on their race, sex, and even political affiliation.

Over the past year, the Ohio Statehouse has had to increase security due to upticks in threats against lawmakers.

The FBI charged a New Albany man in May for sending white powder and a bullet to Attorney General Dave Yost. Along with the threats to the state’s top cop, the suspect sent powder and violent messages to dozens of other public officials, like Sec. of State Frank LaRose and Treasurer Robert Sprague.

A Dayton man was arrested in July for leaving a threatening voicemail to Congressman Jim Jordan.

Over the past two years, Congresswoman Shontel Brown, Yost, and several state lawmakers have been “swatted,” with individuals falsely reporting serious crimes occurring at their addresses. This hoax has the goal of sending a large police presence, or a SWAT team, to approach an unsuspecting victim.
I'm for increasing penalties on crimes. But I do not support redefining them as hate or bias crimes. Hate crimes are about immutable characteristics.

Now they want to make political affiliation a protected class. I don’t know about you, but I have changed political parties in the past, but my gender identity, however, is immutable.
H.B. 306 creates a new provision, protecting race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, familial status, military status, disability, the person’s position in a labor dispute, and political affiliation or position.

“One category that is not explicitly protected by this law, and it was kind of surprising to see that it was omitted given how broad this law is, is sexual orientation and sexual identity, gender identity,” Hill said.

This bill was a compromise, Jarrells said, but he believes that if someone commits a crime against a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it would fall under the “sex” protection.

“We were able to settle on ‘sex’ being kind of the umbrella term that covers all the gamut,” Jarrells said.

Hill acknowledged that in some cases, the U.S. Supreme Court has included sexual orientation under the sex category. Still, this provides an opening to interpret the law as not necessarily including sexuality or gender, she said.
But aren't!

It Is Spreading!

Violence against the LGBTQ+ community is increasing, fueled by rising rhetoric from conservative figures around the world. A recent report from Pink News highlights a disturbing case involving German football referee Pascal Kaiser.
Referee who proposed to boyfriend at match attacked for a second time

On 30 January, the 29-year-old proposed to his partner, Moritz, at Cologne’s RheinEnergieStadion in front of almost 50,000 spectators ahead of a match between FC Köln and VfL Wolfsburg.

On 7 February, just 20 minutes after informing police of threats he had received, Kaiser was attacked by three men in his garden, leaving him with an injury to his right eye.

However, on 9 February, he was attacked at his home again. According to French sports outlet L’Equipe, two people attacked him in front of his home, beating him in the face and torso.

Kaiser was supposed to be under police protection, but officers only arrived 30 minutes after the attack was reported.
Hmm... It makes you wonder: where was the protection he was promised?

When U.S. skiers took the stage for a press conference Friday, at the start of the Milan Cortino Games, they were asked about turmoil back home where ICE agents have detained a growing number of immigrants and clashed violently with protesters in Minneapolis.

Most of the athletes who spoke that day voiced concern, calling for de-escalation, tolerance and respect. "The Olympics represent peace, so let's not only bring world peace but domestic peace within our country," said Alex Ferreira, a 31-year-old who won silver and bronze medals at past Winter Games.

Svea Irving from Winter Park, Colorado chimed in. "It's definitely a tough time in our country right now," the 23-year-old said. "I just continue to represent my values [which are] compassion and love and respect for others."
Boy did that set off a fire-storm! Imagine compassion, love, and respect for other causing a an uproar!

Trump responded with vitriol...
Trump fired back on his Truth Social platform. "U.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn't represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics," Trump wrote on Sunday. "If that's the case, he shouldn't have tried out for the Team, and it's too bad he's on it. Very hard to root for someone like this."
And you wonder why violence is increasing?
"I've never had so many people wish me harm before, just for being me and speaking out about being decent and, like, human rights," she said.

In a statement, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) condemned threats against athletes and said they report any "credible" threats to law enforcement.

"It's a sad reality that over the last several games, we've seen an uptick in abusive and harmful messages directed at the athletes during competition," the USOPC statement said.
Here in Connecticut the Governor Hate Crime Advisory Council came out with their annual report last week and it found;
Statistics gathered by the F.B.I. indicate that nationally, there were 6,121 police-reported hate incidents in 2016; 8,263 in 2020; 11,862 in 2023; and, 11,679 in 2024. These figures must be viewed in the context of longstanding underreporting, as 81% of reporting police agencies nationally reported zero hate crimes in 2024. Therefore, the slight decrease in reports from 2023 does not necessarily reflect a real decline, but rather ongoing challenges in data reporting. Consistent with 2023 trends, approximately 3,200 reports in 2024 were anti-Black, four times higher than the next largest racial or ethnic category. Religion-based reports have continued to rise since 2020, reaching their highest level in 2024 with 2,744 reported cases, including 2,002 driven by antisemitic bias.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reports that the number of hate incidents reported in Connecticut jumped from 91 in 2020 to 682 in 2024 — an increase of 650 percent. Antisemitic incidents in Connecticut, according to the ADL, spiked from 24 in 2020 to 184, dropping slightly to 159 in 2024. Connecticut statistics compiled by the state police also showed an upward trend. In 2021, there were 75 hate incidents; in 2024 there were 103. The number of hate crimes charges in Connecticut went from 87 in 2021 to 130 in 2024.
Connecticut is not immune to bias crimes. We are seeing an increase here.

The rhetoric coming out of Washington we see a corresponding increase in bias crimes.

P'town!

[Editorial]

Many of you have heard of the bias incidents that happened in P'town last week, and many have said that it is hate crime, as much as I wish it was true... it isn't.

It was a typical summer evening in Provincetown: the breeze was salty, the vibes were high, and somewhere on Commercial Street, a drag queen was probably doing a death drop in heels. Tourists were juggling soft-serve and shopping bags. The soundtrack? Donna Summer, obviously. Then—like a record scratch you didn’t ask for—a car tore through town, and suddenly the air was filled with slurs, air horns, and a whole lot of ugliness.

[...]

The ringleaders (allegedly) are Ryan Mahimtura of Framingham, Henry Ward of Hudson, and an unnamed minor also from Hudson. All three are facing two counts of disorderly conduct, and according to Provincetown police, that may just be the start.
Well I doubt very much that they will be charged with a hate crime.

Why?

Because no threats were made and the courts have ruled in the past that all that crap is covered by the First Amendment. No matter how vile, if they don't make threats of violence or actual physical violence then I don't think it is not going to be a hate crime. However, maybe how the air horn was used could have a factor in the case, I would think like if they held it near an ear that might cause injury.

Connecticut Leads The Way

While the feds do everything can to discriminate, Connecticut is fighting back on hate crimes.
CT Mirror
by Hon Douglas S. Lavine
June 25, 2025

Source: CT gov

It is an unfortunate reality that the number of hate crimes in the nation and in our state have been steadily rising in recent years.

Statistics gathered by the F.B.I indicate that there were 6,121 reported hate crimes in 2016; 8,263 in 2020, and 11,862 in 2023.  Some 5,900 of the incidents in the 2023 report were anti-Black, three times higher than the next highest racial or ethnic category. Religion-based incidents in the 2023 report totaled 2,699, more than half driven by anti-Jewish bias; incidents involving anti-Muslim bias also rose.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reports that the number of hate incidents reported in Connecticut jumped from 91 in 2020 to 682 in 2024 —an increase of 650 percent.  Antisemitic incidents in Connecticut, according to the ADL, spiked from 24 in 2020 to 184, dropping slightly to 159 in 2024. Connecticut hate crime statistics compiled by the state police also show an upward trend. In 2021, there were 75 hate crime incidents; in 2024 there were 103. Hate crimes in Connecticut went from 87 in 2021 to 130 in 2024.
I want to point out three things; first, there is a difference between a "hate incidence" and a "hate crime." A hate incident is someone calling with transphobic slurs and a hate crime is when a treat of violence or damage to property. Second... I rather call them bias crimes rather than hate crimes because not all bias crimes involve hate (I didn't sell him cake because I hate him but because I don't like Blacks doesn't involve hate just discrimination.). And third, I am on the Council that the judge is writing about.
Concerned about what was happening, the Connecticut legislature passed a law creating the Hate Crimes Advisory Council (HCAC). Pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes Section 51-279f, the council is responsible for encouraging and coordinating programs that increase community awareness and reporting of hate crimes. It also is charged with making recommendations for legislation concerning hate crimes, including recommendations on restitution for victims, and alternative sentencing programs for juveniles and first-time offenders.

The committee members, appointed by the governor, represent a diverse group of people from the private sector, police authorities, and state government. Consistent with its charge, the HCAC has been busily engaged in a wide variety of initiatives. Here are some of the most significant.
The article goes on to describe the council's duties and responsibilities.
Regular meetings: Meetings of the HCAC are held every other month. They typically involve discussions of what is being done by the HCAC’s many subcommittees, what initiatives are being undertaken, and invited speakers who are experts in the hate crimes area, or who represent various of the communities affected by hate crimes.

The communities include but are not limited to the Black, Jewish, trans, Asian, handicapped and Sikh communities. Hybrid meetings, held in person at the Office of the Chief States Attorney, 300 Corporate Place, Rocky Hill, are open to the public.
Guess who the trans person is?

I am proud of this part...
Third party reporting portal: It is an article of faith that hate crimes are radically underreported for a number of reasons, including the reluctance of victims to contact police authorities due to distrust or concern about immigration status.

While we encourage individuals to report hate incidents to local law enforcement, we concluded that an alternative public reporting tool would encourage people who prefer not to deal with police authorities to report their victimization. Working with community stakeholders an online portal is being created to permit victims to report hate crimes and hate incidents without contacting police authorities.
i.e. A Tip Line

Some of the other topics covered are:
  • Investigative form [All the police departments now have the same forms]
  • Third party reporting portal
  • Outreach
  • Filing of annual reports
  • Public awareness advertisement [There will be a 30 sec ad coming out next moth.]
  • Legislative efforts and proposals [The bill that we sponsored never made it to the floor.]
The article end with...
Hate crimes and hateful incidents not only harm individuals but also spread fear through the community of which a victim is a part and corrode our civic sensibilities. They also tear at the social fabric of our multi-ethnic democracy which, for all its challenges, is still a miraculous achievement.
When a member of the trans gets attack, the whole community knows about it and is affected. It is an attack on the whole community.

Another Bias Crime!

Another incident of violence against us, this time in California...

Attacks against a transgender woman in Westlake continue as the men responsible returned again on Saturday, causing her serious injuries.

Detectives say the string of attacks started in April when a man sexually assaulted the woman -- discovering she was transgender, and threatening to kill her.

Since then, the man has returned to the woman's store multiple times with other people, committing several hate crimes, including hitting her with a skateboard and pepper-spraying her.

[...]

De la Peña says the trouble started on April 8, when the suspect came in and bought water from her small convenience store. She says he attempted to flirt with her but became angry when she told him to leave. He then knocked her to the ground.

"I go back to my space and he pushed me... he pushed me down... on the floor and we start fighting on the floor," de la Peña said.

The suspect eventually ran away, but returned the next day with another man. In that incident, he started beating her with a skateboard.
Incidents of violence against us is climbing, they are no longer just calling us names but now their anger is turning to violence.
June 2, 2025

The big picture: President Trump has singled out the transgender community in several executive orders, jeopardizing federal recognition for people's declared gender identity and access to services like gender-affirming health care.

Meanwhile, ongoing court cases, including one about gender-affirming care for minors before the Supreme Court, could affect LGBTQ+ rights.

Yes, but: The challenges the community face stretch beyond legislation.

GLAAD's new Anti-LGBTQ Extremism Reporting Tracker (ALERT) data depicts the threats LGBTQ+ people face in daily life, even as the share of Americans who are part of the community rises.

"When we allow our politicians and our leaders to spread this anti-trans rhetoric, we see the very real impacts of that on the lived experiences of trans people," said Sarah Moore, who runs the tracker for GLAAD.

[...]

Transgender and gender-nonconforming people were the target of over half of all anti-LGBTQ+ incidents tracked by GLAAD over the last year in a new report.
This is the result of the animosity that is being stirred up by the Republicans against us!
The bottom line: While Finke notes acts of violence are not directly tied to the Trump administration, his policies and the "language of dehumanization and ... language of eradication" have consequences.
  • White House spokesperson Harrison Fields said in a statement that Trump was elected to "Make America Safe Again for all Americans and takes all acts of violence or threats of such abhorrent behavior very seriously."
  • The transgender community needs federal protections, Finke said, though the odds of legislation passing now are slim. Beyond government action, cultural change must foster a safer environment, she added.
  • "We have to continue to make our stories known," Finke said. "That's going to continue to be hard and create pushback, but ... it's what we have to do."
I second that, "We have to continue to make our stories known" that is our biggest weapon... our stories.

It Is Pride Month

You know what that means?

The haters are crawling out from the swamps, to harass us. Many times the harassment doesn’t amount to the level of a “bias crime” but rather to the level of a “bias incident” but you still want to report it to someone.

The state now has a “Hate Crime Tip” line, the data from the web-page is reported to the police but the police get to look at the data for tracking “bias incident” not for investigations (Right now the data is not exempt from the state’s Freedom of Information Act, but there is a bill in the legislature to exempt the information about the person reporting reporting the incident.).

So what type of tips do they want… stealing of Pride flags, somebody calling us names (If they make threats of violence then it becomes a bias crime.), the throwing of anti-Semitic or homophobic literature on lawns, graffiti, and other non-violent harassment.

Where can I go to report an incident?

The Connecticut Hate Crimes Advisory Council web-page… They have a link to report a “Hate Crime” to the State Police and the FBI for criminal investigation. And further down the page there is this...
Report a hate crime or bias incident to the Hate Crimes Advisory Council by clicking here: Reporthate.ct.gov.

Information reported will be collected and analyzed by the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy at UConn and reviewed by the Connecticut Hate Crimes Advisory Council.

IT WILL NOT BE INVESTIGATED AS CRIME!

Mini-Post: They Better!

They better charge him with a bias crime!

The Kane County State's Attorney's office is considering hate crime charges, after a woman from Carpentersville, Illinois, says a group of strangers attacked her at a McDonald's because she's a lesbian.

"I want to assure the public that my office is conducting a thorough and unbiased review of this case to determine if adding additional charges such as Hate Crime is appropriate," Kane County State's attorney Jamie Mosser said in a statement on Wednesday. "I am committed to pursuing justice based on the full facts of the case."
If there ever was a case that scream a bias crime, it is this!
Police arrested 19-year-old John Kammrad and a 17-year-old boy, and they both face several charges, including aggravated battery.
And a bias crime...?

Mini-Post: A Tip Line

Here in Connecticut we created a "Tip Line" to report hate crimes, Trump created a "Tip Line" to create hate.
Doctors warn of ‘terrifying’ effects as Trump creates snitch line to report gender-affirming care patients
Under the administration’s latest guidance, reporting a trans patient’s care may no longer violate HIPAA — and that’s exactly the problem, providers say.
The Advocate
By Christopher Wiggins
April 17 2025

The Trump administration has cleared the way for people to report doctors who provide gender-affirming care to minors — and now says they can do so without violating federal medical privacy laws.

In new guidance issued Monday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that health care workers, clinic staff, and even third parties may file complaints against providers offering gender-affirming care and, in many cases, even disclose protected patient information under HIPAA’s whistleblower provisions. Under HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, medical professionals must keep a patient’s health information confidential. The guidance, issued under President Donald Trump’s January 28 executive order titled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” establishes a new federal portal to collect these reports.

Civil rights and LGBTQ+ health advocates say the move weaponizes patient privacy law against the very people it was designed to protect — and targets providers in a sweeping campaign to scare them out of delivering medically necessary care.
Democrats: tip line to prevent hate. Republicans: tip line to create hate... see the difference?

So You Think You Are Safe In A Blue State?

Well think again! Libraries are trying to ban books, hate flyers are found on lawns... no, everything is not Blue here.
WFSB
By Luke Hajdasz and Kaitlyn Burzin
April 3, 2025

Police are investigating flyers that targeted a transgender activist and the LGBTQ+ community in Deep River.

Multiple flyers were found across town. Most of them targeted a transgender woman who held an event at the library on Wednesday night.

Many people called the flyers hateful.

“It was loose right at my spot where I always park,” said Hilary Montenegro.

Hilary and Aryana said they felt targeted by the flyer when they found it on the ground near their apartment with a rainbow flag in the window.

One side of the notice had questionable statistics about homosexuals. The other side told people to keep children away from Jillian Celentano, a transgender woman.

“We picked it up off the ground, read it, and felt extreme concern,” said Aryana Galbraith.
I here time and time again, "I don't believe in bias crimes" Well it all goes to motive. These flyers are to generate fear in the community, it is not just the an individual that they are targeting but a whole community!
Hartford Courant
April 3, 2025

State and town leaders are condemning hate after flyers with transphobic and homophobic messaging were found littered across Deep River and surrounding towns.

The flyers, which were found Wednesday morning, were apparently in response to a planned presentation at the Deep River Public Library by the Tri-Town Youth Service Bureau.

Deep River First Selectman Carole Jones condemned the “messages of hate and intolerance” and thanked people who had gone around town removing the flyers. Messages of the flyers targeted both the LGBTQ+ community and the library presenter and included misinformation.

The presentation was aimed at “confronting misunderstanding and misinformation.”

“I am thankful to the community members who have taken the time to call, email, text or stop in to talk to me about the negative response and disturbing vitriol. The flyers when seen have been picked up and discarded. Thank you to the angels collecting and destroying this message of hate,” Jones said in a message to the community.
Back in November on the TDoR flyers were left in West Hartford,

Four days after a group known as the Nationalist Social Club left dozens, perhaps hundreds of flyers on West Hartford lawns attacking pediatricians for their work in gender affirming care with youths, police were still investigating. They were not calling the incident a hate crime.

[...]

The two-sided flyers, all or most in plastic bags with small stones, took aim at three physicians who are or were affiliated with Connecticut Children's, the Hartford-based pediatric medical center and network.
The flyers were designed to created fear in the doctors!

Sadly however, they do not constitute a bias crime because of the First Amendment, they don't cross the line and call for violence.

But it is not always flyers on front lawns, sometimes it is elected officials!
More than 200 callers waited to make their voices heard at a virtual meeting on Tuesday.

Controversy is growing in Suffield over a potential book ban involving LGBTQ+ material.

The Kent Memorial Library Commission was supposed to consider the matter on March 20 but abruptly canceled the meeting when more than 70 people showed up for public comment.

The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, and the commission decided to hold it over Zoom. More than 200 callers waited to make their voices heard.

"I can't help but wonder what the next subject will be that is too dangerous for youth in our community to have access to,” Amanda Steben said.

[...]

“It appears that this policy is primarily targeted toward LGBTQ+ issues and is largely driven by a primary unease with the reality of gender fluidity. Why? Because trans persons and gender dysphoria are to 2025. What gay persons were to the 1980s and millennia prior. LGBTQ+ folks have always existed and will always exist, and your efforts to discredit their knowledge of themselves will never erase them,” Ann Franczyk said.
The next quote is what got me...
“Parents have a right to be able to drop their kids off at the library or leave their kids in the children's section of the library while they go into the adult section, without having to worry about their kids being exposed to inappropriate sexual and other material,” Eric Harrington said.
Do you see anything wrong with this?

What I see wrong is... this woman want to control what your children can read because she can't stop her children from reading what she doesn't like!

The Hartford Courant writes...
Tuesday’s meeting was held on Zoom only over the objections of residents and advocates who said the public had the right to address the commission in person. Officials said the format was necessitated by a total lack of buildings in town that would allow for both a large crowd and internet streaming.

[...]

In public comment periods at both the beginning and end of the meeting, more than 60 people spoke against the proposed policy and four in favor. Though most of the speakers were Suffield residents intent on defending their library from the threat of censorship, some were from other towns and a few were transgender teens and parents speaking against the proposed erasure of material on gay and transgender people.

The proposed “Youth Collection Acquisition and Retention Policy” states “materials and services presenting gender identity ideology are only permitted in the young adult section of the youth collection and only if balanced by other viewpoints regarding gender identity ideology directed to the same age group.” The policy also would ban sexually explicit materials.
And one speaker hit the nail on its head...
John Woods offered a painful hypothesis on the meaning of the policy to the town’s gay and transgender youth: “When we say to someone we don’t want books about you, aren’t we really saying ‘We don’t want you’?”
Exactly! And it gives the green light to the bullies.

Bias Crimes

I like calling them Bias Crimes instead of Hate Crimes because bigotry is not a hate crime, it is a bias crime. "I didn't sell him (__full in the blanks__) because I hate him but because (Select one or more: Lazy, Criminals, Dope addicts, Welfare Queens)." hate is hard to prove, there is discrimination but no hate the salesperson believes in stereotyping which isn't motivated by hate but rather by bias. But it is still a crime, a bias crime.

Down the river in Deep River there have been a number of bias incidents...
By Hana Ikramuddin,
April 3, 2025

Local officials denounced flyers with "homophobic and transphobic" messaging that were seen around Deep River Wednesday ahead of an event held at a local library.

Deep River First Selectman Carol Jones said in a statement that the flyers had been spread around town and were "full of messages of hate and intolerance."

[...]

"What do we do when we are so blatantly reminded that the hatred and bitterness that we read about in the paper or see on the television exists here in our own little town? First, we have to acknowledge that this type of hatred does exist and while it offends most all of us, it can and does produce very real fear in some of us, and we ought to think a bit about that," Jones said.
But this wasn't an isolated incident, last December...

Police are investigating after flyers with "prejudicial" material were found scattered around the City Hall area Wednesday morning in what they described as a "hate incident."

Dispatchers received reports Wednesday morning that the flyers were "scattered about several streets in the area," a statement released by Deputy Chief Terrence Blake said.

"The flyers contain prejudicial messaging against certain cultures and religions in various languages," he said.

He did not specify what the flyers said. It was not immediately clear what group or groups were targeted by the flyers.
It is not just here but all around the country that bias crimes are increasing against all minorities! The Hartford Courant reported,
By Ronnell A. Higgins
March 30, 2025

Amid the debate surrounding Gov. Ned Lamont’s sound proposal to revise and strengthen hate crime laws in Connecticut, we must step back and again remind ourselves about an alarming reality.

We’ve seen a 50 percent increase in reported hate crimes in Connecticut just since 2021. Meanwhile, the Anti-Defamation League says that over the past five years it has seen a 450 percent increase in incidents they document in Connecticut.

There is a problem with hate in Connecticut and it isn’t going away. How we address this matters a great deal.

And just as law enforcement would respond to a surge in violent crime, auto thefts, or to disrupt the flow of illegal drugs through our state, it is our duty at the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection to organize and take a leadership role.

We are not waiting to respond to what Gov. Lamont has described as the unconscionable targeting of people “because of the color of their skin, the religion they practice, the person they love, their country of birth, or any other personal attributes that identify who they are.’’
What the governor's bill does is to combine all the bias crime statutes into one location. [Fair disclosing: I am on his council that made the recommendations to the governor], for example bias crimes against gays and lesbians were in a different location in the criminal statutes then bias crimes against us. That made it had for a law officer to look up the statute, now they are all in one place.

Here is what the governor wrote:
The following is a list of existing hate crimes laws in the Connecticut General Statutes that Governor Lamont is seeking to consolidate into one new chapter:

Hate Crime Causing Physical Injury
Hate Crime Causing Physical Contact
Hate Crime Affecting Property
Hate Crime Affecting Religious Property
Hate Crime by Threat of Physical Contact
Hate Crime by Threat to Property
Hate Crime by Threatening in the First Degree with Respect to House of Religious Worship or Religiously-Affiliated Community Center
Hate Crime by Threatening in the Second Degree with Respect to House of Religious Worship or Religiously-Affiliated Community Center
Hate Crime by Advocacy or Urging
Hate Crime by Deprivation of Civil Rights
Hate Crime by Burning Cross
Hate Crime by Noose
Hate Crime with Mask or Hood
Ridicule by Commercial Advertisement
Discriminatory Public Accommodations Practice
Discriminatory Housing Practice
Hate Crime by False Report
Hate Crime by False Report to Law Enforcement
Hate Crime by False Report Resulting in Serious Physical Injury or Death
Hate Crime by Stalking
Hate Crime by Misuse of Emergency 9-1-1 System
Governor Lamont is scheduled to deliver his annual budget address to a joint session of the General Assembly on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Documents containing the full details of his biennial budget proposal and other legislative proposals, including this bill on hate crimes, will be filed on that date.
You know you have to wonder why bias crimes are going up?

Bias Crimes!

There have been two attacks on trans people!
Attorney calls for hate crime charges after transgender teen stabbed, robbed after getting off Houston bus
Investigators said the 18-year-old high school senior was stabbed several times after she was followed off the bus.
KHOU
By Katiera Winfrey
January 3, 2025

A teen is recovering after being stabbed while she was getting off a METRO bus and her attorney is now hoping to see the charges against the man accused in the stabbing upgraded to a hate crime.

Joseph Fuerborn is in custody and is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon while 18-year-old high school student Rue is recovering after being stabbed three times, one of which punctured her lungs.
Metro Weekly reports…
The two had been riding METRO bus in Houston, Texas, and both exited the bus at the same stop at around 8:40 p.m. on December 22. According to Rue’s lawyer, Kevin Murray, Rue let Fuerborn borrow her phone, but when he finished the call, he refused to give it back to her, and instead stabbed her. One of the stabs punctured Rue’s lungs.

[…]

Murray said he doesn’t believe the current charge against Fuerborn is sufficient, given how serious the injuries to Rue were. He said he hopes to see additional charges, including hate crime enhancements, filed against Fuerborn.
I think it will be hard to prove a Bias Crime* since this looks like a robbery of a trans person, none of the articles that I read said the perpetrator never uttered anything about her being trans.

Then back in December…
The family of Cameron Thompson honored her life with a vigil. Thompson was a transgender woman. She was shot and killed in December, which her family believes to be a hate crime. Now they are thanking those who have shown their support since the tragedy.
The station back in December reported,
A minor was arrested in connection to a deadly Tuscaloosa shooting Monday.

The Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit said 18-year-old Cameron Jamal Mikquise Thompson was found dead around 1:00 p.m. in the 600 block of East 35th Avenue on December 16th.

Authorities said she had been shot several times.

ABC 3340 reached out to the victim's family, Thompson's aunt Tara Maneice spoke about how she remembered her niece as outgoing and smart, having a great love for fashion and beauty.

*Bias Crimes instead of Hate Crimes, what’s the difference? They are both crimes where the crime was motivated by prejudice against specific groups.

Simplely people have avoided convictions by saying that they didn’t hate the person, they just don’t like the protected class in question. So by using bias instead of hate, they get more convictions.

Also note that a threat or actual violence is needed for it to be a Bias Crime otherwise it is a Bias Incident and not a crime. Because of the First Amendment they can call us all the names in the book but as soon as they say they are going to harm or violence then it becomes a crime.

Here in Connecticut a bunch of UConn students were making racist comments and were arrested but found not-guilty of a bias crime.

For us the target of their hate it is of little difference between threats and words, but the courts see it differently.

They Are Just Trying To Scare You To Vote For Them

It is the right-wing version of a boogieman! They have a number of boogiemen, another favorite is that the Democrats are going to take away your guns, I think they have been saying that since Reagan.

What is a bias crime*, most people have no idea… so when the right throws out these off-the-wall warnings they believe them.

Which of these are a bias crime?
A) A bunch of drunks in a college parking lot using the “N” word at a bunch of Blacks.
B) A holier than thou lady holding a Bible say we are all sinners and going to hell at a funeral for a gay man.
C) A parade of White guys with torches.

Is one of these a bias crime? Are they all bias crimes?
Opinion: Vance is right. Harris and Walz are a threat to Americans' free speech.
We are living through the most dangerous anti-free speech movement in American history.
USA Today
By Jonathan Turley
October 3, 2024

In the vice presidential debate Tuesday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz pulled the fire alarm.

His opponent, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, cited the massive system of censorship supported by Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate.

Walz proceeded to quote the line from a 1919 case in which Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes said you do not have the right to falsely yell fire in a crowded theater.

It is the favorite mantra of the anti-free speech movement. It also is fundamentally wrong.

In my book "The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage,” I discuss the justice's line from his opinion in Schenck v. United States. Holmes wrote, “The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man in falsely shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic.”
Well I never read his book but if it is like this it is full of that brown stuff.
For example, when I testified last year before Congress against a censorship system that has been described by one federal court as "similar to an Orwellian ‘Ministry of Truth,’” Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., interjected with the fire-in-a-theater question to say such censorship is needed and constitutional. In other words, the internet is now a huge crowded theater and those with opposing views are shouting fire.
Hun? What is he talking about? Who is banning books, tell people what they can say in schools, banning parades? Non-discrimination laws don’t ban any of these!
Goldman and Walz both cited a case in which socialists Charles Schenck and Elizabeth Baer were arrested and convicted of violating the Espionage Act of 1917. Their "crime" was to pass out flyers in opposition to the military draft during World War I.
Hold it right there! They released classified documents! They were not convicted of violating the First Amendment. The publishing of the Pentagon Papers was free speech… the stealing of them was not.
As I have said, the Biden-Harris administration has proved to be the most anti-free speech administration in two centuries. You have to go back to John Adams' administration to find the equal of this administration.

Harris has been an outspoken champion of censorship in an administration that supports targeting disinformation, misinformation and "malinformation." That last category was defined by the Biden administration as information “based on fact, but used out of context to mislead, harm, or manipulate.”
Wait a minute Trump has proposed the same thing! He said that he would prosecute reporters! Reuters reported that,
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is the Republican presidential candidate, said on Friday he will seek the prosecution of Google(GOOGL.O), opens new tab if he wins the Nov. 5 election, claiming that the company only displays "bad stories" about him.
Me thinks that Mr. Turley got his blinders on and is only seeing one side. He goes on to write,
We are living through the most dangerous anti-free speech movement in American history. We have never before faced the current alliance of government, corporate, academic and media forces aligned against free speech. A Harris-Walz administration with a supportive Congress could make this right entirely dispensable.
Yes, we are. And I think that it is a candidate who cannot tell the truth, has said he will go after people in the media that he didn’t like, the candidate who said he would be a dictator on day one of his taking office.

Back to that quiz…
A) Was a case where a group on the campus of UConn shouting racial slurs, the charges were dropped and the university settled out of court for false arrest.
B) Was at the funeral of Matthew Shepard.
C) Was at Charlottesville when the Proud Boys marched.

The person who got arrested receive restitution from the college and the others were never arrested.

Yes, there is a thin line between a bias crime and free speech, they courts have said that there must be intimidation, threats of violence or actual violence for it to be a bias crime. But the Republicans lies to scare you into believing that it is true.

*Why do I say “bias crime” instead of a “hate crime” well simple put hate is not a crime, it is only when they take action or make threats is it a crime.

30 Seconds

The ads are only around 30 seconds long but they are good at slinging mud.

I saw an ad by the National Republican Congressional Committee saying that Rep. Hayes voted against the bill on fentanyl. Period. The ad just attacked her for that vote, the digital online version Hartford Courant in an article “Hayes’ vote on fentanyl assailed” wrote about the ad…
“Yet Jahana Hayes was the only member of Congress from Connecticut to oppose a bipartisan bill to permanently classify fentanyl in the most dangerous category of drugs,” the announcer says. “The only one.”

The ad then closes by saying, “How many more must die, Jahana?”
Whoa, that’s heavy! My first thought was what was the story about the no vote. The first thing that popped into my head was, was it like the crack cocaine law? That law was lock em up and throw away the key bill. Since more Blacks used crack than plan cocaine (Both of them are the same, they are just a different forms of the same drug.).

This morning there was an article about the ad in the Courant and it answered my questions,
“My no vote was because this bill didn’t do anything to provide prevention, treatment, recovery, harm reduction, or money for law enforcement,” Hayes said. “Basically what it said was that anyone knowingly or unknowingly possessing fentanyl in any amount would have a mandatory minimum sentence with no discretion by a judge or anything. For me, I come to this work from a very different place than my colleagues. I saw what the 1994 crime bill did to decimate communities. I know that we cannot incarcerate our way out of a public health crisis.”

She continued, “There was no discretion between someone who was a high-level drug trafficker or a teenager who unknowingly possessed something laced with fentanyl. We tried to get amendments added to change that part of the language. There were over 150 groups that came out against this bill, saying it was problematic, and it wasn’t a comprehensive approach to both the problem of drug trafficking and overdoses and the public health crisis.”
Yup, it was the same as the crack cocaine laws… lock em up and throw away the key bill. I agree with her. It was a typical Republican bill, “A touchy feely good bill” that hard on crime but what it really does is fill up our jails with minorities.
Politically, Hayes said, “Everybody said it’s not going anywhere. It will be easier just to sign onto it. My response was I was in a family and a community that was decimated by the 1994 crime bill, which tried to do this exact same thing. … The mandatory minimum sentence was a deal breaker for me. People said, ‘It has the word ‘fentanyl’ in it. This is going to be more of a headache.’ “

For Hayes, the vote was also personal.
I totally agree with her vote!

Lock em up doesn’t work. I asked my favorite AI, Perplexity AI: “Which states have the highest crime rate, Republicans states or Democratic states?”
 Answer
Based on the search results provided, the data suggests that Republican-leaning states tend to have higher crime rates, particularly for murder, compared to Democratic-leaning states. Here are the key points:

Red States vs Blue States
  •     Murder rates in states that voted for Trump (red states) have consistently exceeded those in states that voted for Biden (blue states) every year from 2000 to 2020.
  •     Over this 21-year period, the per capita murder rate in red states was on average 23% higher than in blue states.
  •     In 2021 and 2022, the red state murder rate was 33% higher than the blue state murder rate.
  •     From 2000 to 2022, the average red state murder rate was 24% higher than the average blue state murder rate.
Top States for Murder Rates
  •     8 out of the 10 states with the highest murder rates in 2022 voted for Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2020.
  •     States like Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama (all Republican-leaning) have consistently had the highest murder rates, occupying the top three spots for 15 of the last 23 years.
  •     Other red states like South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri have also frequently been in the top 10 for murder rates since the early 2000s.
Trends Over Time
  •     The gap in murder rates between red and blue states has widened over time, from 9% in 2003-2004 to 43% in 2020.
  •     From 2000 to 2020, murder rates increased by 39.4% in red states compared to just 13.4% in blue states.
It's important to note that these statistics focus primarily on murder rates rather than overall crime rates. The data also shows that this trend persists even when removing the largest cities from red states, suggesting it's not solely an urban issue.

While crime is a complex issue influenced by many factors, the available data indicates that Republican-leaning states have generally experienced higher murder rates compared to Democratic-leaning states over the past two decades.re
I had one more question for Perplexity AI: “Which states have a high prison population Republican states or Democratic states per 100,000 residents?”
Answer
Based on the search results provided, there is a trend indicating that Republican-leaning states generally have higher incarceration rates per 100,000 residents compared to Democratic-leaning states. Here are the key points:

Top States for Incarceration
  •     Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas, all traditionally Republican states, have the highest incarceration rates per 100,000 residents as of 2022, with rates of 661, 596, and 574 respectively.
  •     Other Republican-leaning states like Oklahoma, Idaho, Texas, and Arizona also rank high on the list, with rates above 440 per 100,000 residents.
Comparison to Democratic States
  •     Many Democratic-leaning states tend to have lower incarceration rates. For example:
       - California has a rate of 250 per 100,000
       - New York has a rate of 317 per 100,000
       - Massachusetts has the lowest rate in the country (though still high by global standards)

Regional Patterns
  •     Southern states, which tend to vote Republican, generally have higher incarceration rates. States like Georgia, Alabama, and Florida all have rates above 375 per 100,000.
  •     Northeastern states, which often lean Democratic, typically have lower rates. For instance, New Jersey has a rate of 270 per 100,000.
Notable Exceptions
  • While the trend favors higher incarceration rates in Republican states, there are exceptions. Some Democratic-leaning states like Nevada and New Mexico have relatively high rates (322 and 231 per 100,000 respectively).
It's important to note that incarceration rates are influenced by various factors, including crime rates, sentencing laws, and socioeconomic conditions. However, the data suggests a correlation between political leaning and incarceration rates, with Republican-leaning states generally having higher rates than Democratic-leaning states.
So I will let you decide… Does “Lock em up and throw away the key” work?

The Hartford Courant article goes on to say,
“Incarceration was the response to fentanyl,” she said. “Only incarceration with mandatory minimum sentences with no discretion for the judge to even decide, based on the circumstances, if incarceration was warranted. … We tried this in the 1990s. It didn’t work.”

A separate bill, known as the End FENTANYL Act, has been signed into law by Biden that is designed to improve inspections at the border in an attempt to block fentanyl from being smuggled into the United States.

In addition, Hayes is co-sponsoring other bills to attack the issue, including increasing funding for treatment, training teachers to administer life-saving drugs, increasing access to narcan, and heightening awareness of fentanyl in schools.
Of course the ad doesn’t anything about the other bill, just the “Lock em up” bill.

Most voters are lazy, they don’t look behind the curtain… “OMG how could she!”

Connecticut Fifth District is in the national spot light, the district has always been a tight race. Going back and forth between parties and as a result national money is pouring in…
Third-party money

Outside money has been pouring into the 5th district as the race is watched nationally.

The Democratic National Committee announced that it is pouring an additional $70,000 into Connecticut to help the “ground game” for Hayes and others to get out the vote in the final five weeks before election day. The state Democratic Party says that the Hayes race is “the number one priority” in this election cycle.

A third-party group, known as Americans for Prosperity Action in Arlington, Va., has been sending two-sided, full color fliers to homes across the district. With Logan’s picture on both sides, the mailer says Logan will “lower inflation, secure the border” and keep communities safe.

With the stakes so high, the spending will continue.

“We have reserved over $1 million in television and digital advertising in Hartford that started with our first ad, which called out Jahana Hayes for failing to act on the fentanyl crisis,” said Republican spokeswoman Savannah Viar.
Do your homework, when you see an ad question it. Google… Google News for more news article and read the article and see what they are talking about in the ads. Both parties lie by omission, votes is not passive… it is active you have to get up off your butt and see what the issues they are talking about are true or not.

Vote Blue for sane criminal laws, vote Blue for laws that work and are not just “Touchy Feely, Good!” laws.

While I was reading the paper this morning another article caught my attention...

The FBI is investigating the source of suspicious packages sent to election offices in more than 20 states. Some election offices have been evacuated; staff are frightened.

Suspicious packages, bomb threats, death threats, harassment, assassination attempts, and violence are consequences of the politics of hate, now emanating more ferociously than ever from Trump and his sycophants.

Many explanations have been offered for why two assassination attempts have been made on Trump over the last two months. Some blame easy access to assault weapons; I’m sure that’s part of it.

But the real incitement to violence in America is hatefulness — hate speech, fearsome lies, and dangerous, paranoid rumors — the epicenter of which is Trump.
This is terrorism! Plain and simple.
terrorism
noun
ter·ror·ism ˈter-ər-ˌi-zəm
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
Merriam Webster
The bomb treats are closing down schools and hospitals!
Trump blames the intensifying climate of violence on Kamala Harris and the Democrats: “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at,” he said. “Because of this Communist Left Rhetoric, the bullets are flying, and it will only get worse!” he wrote in a social media post. Trump’s campaign has circulated a list of so-called “incendiary” remarks Democrats have made against Trump and posted video clips from top Democrats calling him a “threat.”

JD Vance says “we cannot tell the American people that one candidate is a fascist and if he’s elected it is going to be the end of American democracy.”

Hello? Calling Trump a fascist and a threat to democracy is not inciting violence; it’s telling the truth. American voters need to be made aware, if they aren’t already.

Let’s be clear: The most significant cause of the upsurge in political violence — including the two attempts on Trump’s life — is Trump himself, along with his close allies Vance and Elon Musk, and other cranks and crackpots that have come along for the ride.
The Anti-Violence Project writes,
Hate crimes against LGBTQ people increased since last year according to new FBI data. Bias crimes motivated by sexual orientation and gender identity were up in 2022 over last year, representing one fifth of total hate crimes tracked by the FBI.

Executive Director of the New York City Anti-Violence Project, Beverly Tillery, responds:
“This data reflects the sad reality our communities have known this past year, that we are facing increased harm and violence, and our safety is at risk,” says AVP Executive Director Beverly Tillery. “This is sadly only a snapshot of the real problem, as we know many threats and hate incidents against our communities go unreported or are not considered crimes and are untracked in this data.”
Vote Blue and keep your fingers crossed that there is not violence after the election like in 2020.
