Even The MSM Is Saying It Now!

(That’s Main Stream Media)

[Editorial]

I have been saying it about the New Republican party for a long time and now the British newspaper The Guardian is saying it in a column by Robert Reich, the former US Secretary of Labor who served under the Clinton administration…

Maybe US mainstream media should begin using the term ‘fascism’
My tweet about Ron DeSantis provoked outrage in rightwing media – perhaps it hit the nerve of the fascism now taking root in the Republican party?
August 31, 2022

I’ve been watching the Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, for some time. Last Tuesday I tweeted: “Just wondering if ‘DeSantis’ is now officially a synonym for ‘fascist’.”

I was surprised at the outrage my little tweet provoked in rightwing media.

The Washington Examiner, for example, called me an “ultra-leftwing elitist” who wrote an “insulting slur”, which is “what leftwing ideologues do when they discuss Republican politicians who pose any threat to the existence of their political ideology … Anyone the Democrats don’t like or disagree with is a fascist.”

Well sometimes it is deserved.

In Florida, discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity are now barred in schools. Math textbooks have been rejected for what officials call “indoctrination”. Claiming tenured professors in Florida’s public universities were “indoctrinating” students, DeSantis spearheaded a law requiring them to be reviewed every five years.

Teachers are limited in what they can teach about racism and other tragic aspects of American history. DeSantis has got personally involved in local school board races, endorsing and campaigning for 30 board candidates who agree with him (so far, 20 have won outright, five are going to runoffs).

Abortions are banned after 15 weeks. (DeSantis recently suspended an elected prosecutor who said he would refuse to enforce the anti-abortion law.)

Welcome to the New Republican party… bans free speech, bans a person’s right to their own body, supports racism, supports transphobia and homophobia, and overturns elected officials if they don’t tow the governor’s ideology.

So, is it useful to characterize DeSantis’s combination of homophobia, transphobia, racism and misogyny, along with his efforts to control the public schools and universities and to intimidate the private sector (eg, Disney), as redolent of fascism?

America’s mainstream media is by now comfortable talking and writing about “authoritarianism”. Maybe it should also begin using the term “fascism”, where appropriate.

Yup.

Authoritarianism implies the absence of democracy, a dictatorship. Fascism – from the Latin fasces, denoting a tightly bound bundle of wooden rods typically including a protruding axe blade, adopted by Benito Mussolini in the 1930s to symbolize his total power – is different.

Fascism also includes hatred of “them” (people considered different by race or religion, or outside the mainstream, or who were born abroad), control over what people learn and what books they are allowed to read, control over what had been independent government units (school boards, medical boards, universities and so on), control over women and the most intimate and difficult decisions they’ll ever make, and demands that the private sector support the regime.

It fits the New Republican party to a T.

Cruising While Trans

I am always a little leery of “LGBTQ+” cruises because I think of them as really LGB cruises. Take for example Aruba, it has protections for LGB people but not for trans people and Asher & Lyric gives it an overall rating of  C- but if you are trans is probably not as good.

If you Google “How safe is Aruba for transgender people?” the search results are…

Cruising to Equality? The Cruise Industry & LGBTQ+ Rights
Gay cruises helped establish the LGBTQ+ tourism market — and gain civil rights. Has the ship now sailed?
Out Traveler
By Jacob Aanderson-Minshall
August 26 2022

In “Cruising to Equality: Tourism, U.S. Homonationalism, and the Lesbian and Gay Family Market,” author Liz Montegary wrote (as she explains now) that “spending money in local and global tourism markets increased the visibility of ‘respectable,’ economically privilegedm [sic] lesbian and gay parents and, in doing so, strengthened lesbian and gay demands for marital and parental rights.”

The focus of her study was the LGBTQ+ family cruise company R Family Vacations.

Montegary is now director of graduate studies at Stony Brook University’s Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and author of the 2018 book Familiar Perversions: The Racial, Sexual, and Economic Politics of LGBT Families. In the nearly two decades since R Family launched, the LGBTQ+ cruise industry has been dramatically transformed. (Read how R Family is changing as well). And while marriage equality is currently the law of the land, parental rights are under threat and a Supreme Court justice wants to undo our marriages.

[…]

Has cruising contributed to LGBTQ+ equality?

I think cruising has played a role in moving some LGBTQ+ people toward equality, but I also think it has contributed to moving other LGBTQ+ people further from equality.

The cruise industry helped establish the LGBTQ+ tourism market — and gain rights. But has it gone far enough?

As companies began more aggressively courting “pink dollars” over the course of the 1990s, group-based commercial activities, like tourism, took on new meaning. Lesbian and gay identity was organized around a shared set of desires — not just in terms of same-sex eroticism but now around shared consumer wants and common political interests. Within this context, private acts of consumption — like booking a cruise — could be experienced as politicized public acts. Not only were these travelers doing the political work of building community, they were also increasing their visibility as valuable consumers deserving of state recognition and legal protections.

Now for my but. Tourism is only a liberatory site for LGBTQ+ travelers equipped with the bodies, resources, legal status, and cultural capital needed to engage in leisure travel. By increasing the visibility of gender conforming, economically privileged, and able-bodied/ minded LGBTQ+ citizens, the industry effectively marginalizes those who cannot or will not conform to the white middleclass norms of consumer culture.

Ding, ding, ding… alarm bells just went off “who cannot or will not conform to the white middleclass norms of consumer culture.”

That is a great big red flag! In other words people like me.

Of course then there are the other passengers and we do not know how they will behave!

Anything else you’d like to share about LGBTQ+ cruises?

I wanted to clarify that, regardless of how companies market their cruises, we can’t be totally sure how people will use the space of the ship. In the longer version of my “Cruising to Equality” article (which is chapter 2 of Familiar Perversions), I talk about some of the unexpected encounters I had while on my Alaska cruise.

[…]

So, even as I wonder (and maybe worry) about what might be a growing preference for “inclusive” vacation opportunities, I want to acknowledge that people don’t always use spaces in the way they are intended. I have the utmost of faith in the capacity of queer sexual cultures to permeate these new configurations. And we can’t really know what kinds of queer desires and alliances — erotic, political, or otherwise — might take shape on the decks of these “gay-friendly” cruises.

Back in 2012 I wrote about a “Ru Paul Drag Cruise” that went awry.

Carnival letter to passengers on drag cruise: 'Refrain from engaging in inappropriate conduct'

Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines is in hot water tonight over a letter received by passengers scheduled to take a Drag Stars at Sea Caribbean cruise beginning Dec. 2.

One passenger reported receiving this email from Carnival:

Carnival attracts a number of families with children and for this reason; we strive to present a family friendly atmosphere. It is important to us that all guests are comfortable with every aspect of the cruise. Although we realize this group consists solely of adults, we nonetheless expect all guests to recognize that minors are onboard and, refrain from engaging in inappropriate conduct in public areas.

Arrangements have been made for drag performances in the main theater featuring stars from LOGO TV. These functions will be private and only the performers are permitted to dress in drag while in the theater. Guests are not allowed to dress in drag for the performances or in public areas at any time during the cruise.

Carnival said any passenger who breaks the rules will be forced off the ship, no refunds given.

So beware!

I not saying you will run into problems with cruises but there is a strong possibility that you will and I would hate to be stuck on a cruise with a bunch of Trump's MAGAers.

LGB… t

Many time we get thrown under the bus by some of our gay brothers and lesbians sisters. We seen this when marriage equality was past… “WE WON!” and walked away to the marriage chapel. Well we seen what happen to the right for a person to chose if they want to terminate their pregnancy after 50 years.

It is the domino theory all over again but instead of countries falling one by one our hard fought legal victories are falling here and around the world.

Poland's Trans Citizens Fear They'll Become Target of the Right
Acceptance of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people is actually rising in the conservative nation, with trans Poles remaining vulnerable.
The Advocate
By Ryan Adamczeski
August 25 2022

With support for gays and lesbians on the rise in Poland, the country’s transgender citizens fear they'll be a major target of the right wing ahead of next year’s parliamentary election.

The same day in June that Warsaw held its Pride celebration, the chair of the conservative Law and Justice party, Jarosław Kaczyński, met with voters in the nearby town of Włocławek to voice his disdain for trans people, The Guardian reports.

“We have elementary knowledge in biology, we know that gender is determined at the level of chromosomes. … In extreme cases, an operation must be performed, but this does not mean that after this operation a man will be a woman and a woman will be a man,” he said.

He taunted the crowd, making a point to look at his watch, saying, “It’s now half past 5; before I was a man but now I’m a woman.”

We have become the low hanging fruit for all the frustrations of the far right-wing conservatives, they hadn’t any luck in making the lesbians and gays whipping boys so now they are focusing their anger and hate at us.

The Polish government has attacked the LGBTQ+ community on several past occasions, with the country’s president, Andrzej Duda, running a successful reelection campaign two years ago based on anti-queer rhetoric. He is a member of Law and Justice.

Recently, polls have shown growing acceptance for gay people in Polish society, which trans activists believe will make them the next target for the party. Trans author Maja Heban told The Guardian that Kaczyński’s June remarks amount to “workshopping” material for upcoming campaigns.

Polish politician Krzysztof Śmiszek added that “homophobia doesn’t resonate the way it used to” with Polish society. Śmiszek is head of the parliamentary group on LGBT+ equality and member of Parliament from the New Left party,

“Poland in 2022 is not so easy to be manipulated with homophobia … Kaczyński consciously did not choose the entire LGBT group, but only transgender people,” he said.

Where are our gay brothers and lesbian sisters do they have our back in Poland or are they ducking for cover and glad that it is not them? I sometimes feel that it is more like LGBtq

In politics here in the US a Republican doesn't like diversity... he wants everything "Lilly White."
Masters, of Arizona, defended the remarks in a video and lashed out at what he called President Joe Biden's "affirmative action regime."
NBC News
By Zoë Richards
August 29, 2022

Blake Masters, the GOP nominee for a Senate seat in Arizona, suggested in a sarcastic tweet this week that the sluggish economy and the high rate of inflation were tied to diversity in the high ranks of the Federal Reserve.

"Finally a compelling explanation for why our economy is doing so well," Master, who has been endorsed by for President Donald Trump, wrote Sunday in retweeting an Associated Press article with the headline: "Fed tackles inflation with its most diverse leadership ever."

The article noted that more female, Black and gay officials are now weighing in on interest-rate decision-making than ever before in the central bank's more-than-100-year history.
All this diversity makes my head spin!

I want only people who look and think like me, none of these blacks and immigrants, none of these fruit cakes and… and… and none of these WOMAN! And god forbid women in pants!

In May, he was among a group of conservative candidates who invoked versions of the “great replacement theory” — a conspiracy theory that claims there is a plot to weaken the influence of white Americans — by saying Democrats want to give amnesty to thousands of immigrants to claim them as voters.

Masters has also disparaged Black women, having previously argued that Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman confirmed to the high court, was “a horrible pick” and an “affirmative action candidate.”

In Monday's video, Masters also attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, who he said was “so incompetent she can’t even get a sentence out.”
Take me back to the land of “Mayberry,” “Ozzy and Harriet,” and “Father Know Best”!

Bloomberg reported that there is actually a lack of diversity in the Fed...
There are currently five female Federal Reserve bank presidents, including Lorie Logan, who leads the Dallas branch. Lisa Cook is the Federal Reserve’s first Black female governor. Federal Reserve data released in May, however, show that the overwhelming majority of employees are male and White.

Further, four of the 12 Federal Reserve banks don’t employ a single Black economist, and there has never been a Latino leader at the organization. Women comprise fewer than a third of the economists at the central board as well as 11 of the 12 branches. The board counts one Black man among its 400 economists. There are currently no Black female economists at the board. The bank employs no Native American or Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander economists.
Back in grad school I was asked why diversity is important. It was a very easy question to answer, when you have a homogeneous company everyone thinks the same way, in a diverse business different cultures, religions, race, genders, and sexual orientation all shape they way people think bring many new ideas and ways of thinking to a company.

I like to use IBM as an example. Back in the late sixties and the seventies you could spot an IBM rep a mile away… they all had a “flat top” haircut, a blue suits, a thin blue tie, and a pocket protector.
Then this rising star came along who invented a way to speed up computers that is still used today, "dynamic instruction scheduling” (As eyes glaze over) it was an earth shattering invention that was latter said to be one of the major discoveries in computer science. But IBM fired their rising star, why?

Because she came out trans in the land of the flat top haircuts, a blue suits, a thin blue tie, and a pocket protector, Lynn Conway went on to be one of the must influential computer scientists of this generation.

Then we had two hippies who walked into IBM with their idea but were entirely dismissed of their garage workshop invention… the personal computer. IBM was mainframes not these little toys. IBM brought men to the moon! Those two hippies went on to found Apple!

When you have a diverse workforce you get new ideas, not old ideas rehashed.

~~~
Note: I am not painting the whole LGB community, it is just small group of individuals who are ant-trans. The vast majority of LGB support us. But like most groups they are only interested in their own community.
Now Tell Me That This Isn’t Something Right Out Of The Pages of “The Handmaiden Tale?”
I found this on a friend’s blog
Now Christians are targeting women who wear pants
This preacher exhorts men to toss their wives' pants in a fire because that's crossdressing.
LGBTQ Nation
August 24, 2022
The religious right has celebrated the overturn of Roe v. Wade, but their obsession with controlling women’s bodies knows no satisfaction.
Now a far-right preacher known for his vile rants about the LGBTQ community is calling for men to burn their wives’ pants because, he says, it’s just a form of crossdressing.
Brother Duncan Urbanek spread the love of God by using anti-gay slurs and encouraging men to destroy their spouses’ possessions. Urbanek is a member of the Stedfast Baptist Church, one of the most vicious anti-LGBTQ hate groups in the nation. Church leaders have called for the execution of gay men and publicly celebrated tragedies that killed members of the LGBTQ community.
“People want to get so riled up… Yeah! F*gs are an abomination. God hates ’em,” he begins. “Well, didn’t it just say if you’re a crossdresser, you’re an abomination too?”
“Now obviously it’s not as bad as being a fa***t,” he continued, “But God is still very upset with your sin.”
“No what should we do about that, knowing this as Christians? If you’re a woman and you own any pants, throw them away. Light them on fire. If you’re a man and your wife has pants, throw them away. And if she yells at you, so be it. Throw them away. That’s a good fight to be in.”
The Twitter post: Christian hate-preacher Duncan Urbanek condemns all pants-wearing women.
This is where we are heading...
Punished for Wearing Pants
Let's face it, the evangelical Christians and the Republicans want their all women in a dress, bare foot, pregnant, and in the kitchen.
Were you one of Mike’s boyfriends?”
Martine Beuttler is surprised by the phone call. Speaking from her home in Saint-Tropez, on the French Riviera, the 78-year-old welcomes the chance to share memories of her beloved brother-in-law, Mike. After all, no one ever asks about him.
Mike Beuttler is Formula One’s forgotten LGBTQ pioneer: the only openly gay male driver to ever grace the sport’s elite championship.
He competed against the world’s most famous drivers during the 1970s — Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson foremost among them — before retiring young and leaving the United Kingdom to settle in the U.S. for the final 14 years of his life. Beuttler died in 1988 at age 48 of AIDS-related illness in Los Angeles.
Well we will see you one gay race car driver and raise you two trans race car drivers! So there!
Endurance racing driver Charlie Martin [she/her], 40, came out to the public as transgender in 2018, and says she started her transition in 2012. Martin competed in the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2019, and was the first out trans person to race in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring event, in 2020. Martin is a Stonewall, Racing Pride, and Athlete Ally ambassador.
Then we have NASCAR driver…
A NASCAR Racer On Her Sex Change
By Newsweek Staff
May 12, 2007
J. T. Hayes won over 500 regional and national championships in go-kart, midget and sprint racing and competed in NASCAR Winston Cup before undergoing sex-reassignment surgery in 1994 at age 30. During the two years she transitioned from man to woman, the Corinth, Miss., native raced throughout the South and California, wrapping an Ace bandage over her breasts to flatten them out ("Boys Don't Cry"-style), wearing baggy T shirts and tucking her long hair under a baseball cap. Now as Terri O'Connell, she's had very little luck breaking back into the racing world. O'Connell still lives in Corinth with her elderly mother and is working on a clothing line for female NASCAR fans. The petite redhead is also writing a memoir, "Dangerous Curves," (due this fall). She'd like to get back on the track and is currently looking for a sponsor.
The terms transgendered and professional motor sports just don't go together, especially when you say I'm 5 foot 6 inches and weigh 118 pounds. I have girl's body—small, fragile and tiny.
You know for the gays and lesbians they don’t have to come out, they can stay in the closet their whole entire professional life, but trans female drivers they have to come out. People tend to notice coming to work in a bra.
It Is 1933 All Over Again!
[Editorial]
They say that history repeats itself and “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
Conservative activists want to ban 400 books from a library — but they aren't even on shelves
NBC News
By Tyler Kingkade
August 23, 2022</
For months, a group of conservative Christians have inundated the staff and board of a public library in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, with complaints about books they didn’t want to see on the shelves.
Their list of more than 400 titles predominantly focuses on young adult books with LGBTQ characters, scenes describing sexual activity or invoking the occult.
The only problem: None of the books are in the library’s collection.
Still, the activists in this town of 2,500 people wanted the books pre-emptively banned. They fumed that the library planned to join the American Library Association, a nonprofit trade organization known for fighting censorship that local activists falsely accused of “promoting pedophilia.” They started a campaign to recall four of the five library trustees over a policy against restricting access to controversial books, putting up signs around town that read: “Our Mission is to protect children from explicit materials and grooming.”
Now lets look at 1933 Germany…
1933 Book Burnings
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
On May 10, 1933 student groups at universities across Germany carried out a series of book burnings of works that the students and leading Nazi party members associated with an “un-German spirit.” Enthusiastic crowds witnessed the burning of books by Brecht, Einstein, Freud, Mann and Remarque, among many other well-known intellectuals, scientists and cultural figures, many of whom were Jewish. The largest of these book bonfires occurred in Berlin, where an estimated 40,000 people gathered to hear a speech by the propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, in which he pronounced that “Jewish intellectualism is dead” and endorsed the students’ “right to clean up the debris of the past.”
The library of Dr. Hirschfeld institute was attacked and the books on LGBTQ+ topics were burned!
6 MAY 1933: LOOTING OF THE INSTITUTE OF SEXOLOGY
On 6 May 1933, the Institute of Sexology, an academic foundation devoted to sexological research and the advocacy of homosexual rights, was broken into and occupied by Nazi-supporting youth. Several days later the entire contents of the library were removed and burned.
The institute was initially occupied by The German Student Union, who were a collective of Nazi-supporting youth. Several days later, on 10 May, the entire contents of the library were removed to Berlin’s Bebelplatz Square. That night, along with 20,000 other books across Germany, they were publicly burned in a symbolic attack by Nazi officials on their enemies.
[…]
Jewish, gay and outspokenly liberal, Hirschfeld was an obvious target for the Nazis, and the seizure and destruction of the institute on 6 May took place only three months after Hitler was made Chancellor of Germany. During the attack and subsequent book burning, Hirschfeld was working in Paris. He saw the burning of his own library in a news report at the cinema. Among the texts thrown onto the bonfire at the Bebelplatz was Heinrich Heine’s Almansor, in which the author noted:
‘Where they burn books, in the end they will burn humans too’.
Now here in the US books are being ripped off the library selves because the LGBTQ+, now tell me what is the difference between Fascist Germany and the right-wing conservatives?
A group of about 100 marchers identifying themselves by flyers as belonging to the white nationalist group the Patriot Front, cut through the heart of downtown Saturday sparking a confrontation.
A scanner call came in at around 12:30 p.m. announcing that a group had gone up to a rental truck parked in the area of the Haymarket MBTA station and off-loaded a number of shields and flags. Many were U.S. flags, with at least one flown upside-down and many showing just the 13 stars in a circle for the original U.S. colonies, as well as flags featuring different designs.
Many flags also had a stylized version of the symbol that represented Benito Mussolini’s National Fascist Party.
Then down in Charlottesville in 2017 there was the Tiki Torch parade…
Charlottesville: far-right crowd with torches encircles counter-protest group
People gathering to oppose Unite the Right demonstration say they were hit with pepper spray and lighter fluid in clash on University of Virginia campus
The Guardian
By Jason Wilson
12 August 2017
Hundreds of far-right demonstrators wielded torches as they marched on to the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville on Friday night and reportedly attacked a much smaller group of counter-protesters who had linked arms around a statue of Thomas Jefferson.
Starting at a municipal park less than a mile away, “alt-right” protesters who have gathered for the weekend Unite the Right rally marched in a long column over the short distance to the campus, chanting slogans like “You will not replace us” and “Blood and soil”.
Now look at Germany in 1933, Facing History and Ourselves writes,
On the night of January 30, 1933, SA men paraded with torches through Berlin to celebrate Hitler’s appointment as chancellor.
On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany. That evening, members of the Nazi Party carried fiery torches as they paraded through the streets of Berlin. They were joined by thousands who had gathered to cheer for Paul von Hindenburg, the president of Germany, and Hitler. The two men responded to the crowd from separate windows—Hitler at the chancellery and Hindenburg at a hotel next door. Nearby was the French embassy, where Ambassador André François-Poncet watched from a window, later writing:
The torches . . . formed a river of fire . . . over the very heart of the city. From these brown-shirted, booted men, as they marched in perfect discipline and alignment, their well-pitched voices bawling war-like songs, there rose an enthusiasm and dynamism that were extraordinary.
Then we have Mussolini’s Blackshirts in 1922;
MUSSOLINI’S BLACKSHIRTS MARCH ON ROME SEIZING TOTAL CONTROL
History On This Day
October 28, 1922
Today on October 28, 1922, Benito Mussolini’s Blackshirts infamously March on Rome, seizing total control over the Italian government.
The March on Rome marked the beginning of Fascist rule over Italy, ending all social-liberal parliamentary regimes. Benito Mussolini was the founding member and leader of the Fascist Party in Italy. With an abundance of personality and charisma, he was capable of captivating massive crowds and attracting large swaths of loyal followers. The end of World War I resulted in unfavorable peace treaties for both Germany and Italy, leaving widespread discontent across the population and a fragile political environment. The government was ripe for the taking. On October 24, the fascist party leaders planned to March on Rome and seize power from the liberal regime. Nearly a decade later, Hitler too would rise to power in Germany on the basis of popular unrest.
So what is the difference between 1933 and now?
We have Trump’s fascists marching through Charlottesville which Trump said that they “very fine people” and then in Boston we have Patriot Front white supremacist group, I don’t know about you but I do not see any differences… they are both fascists!
In Politico Mr. Lithwick writes,
Welcome to the new alt-right, which might not be so new at all.
‘Where America still sees Nazis and flaming torches, I see the first stirrings of the thing that comes after.’
Dahlia Lithwick is the senior legal correspondent for Slate.
Remember that both Hitler and Mussolini were part of the rise patriotism, they were part of their version of “Make America Great Again” and the social economic unrest of the “great depression” just the conditions we are seeing today.
Update 8/29/2022 11:30
Boy the right-wing media just proved my point for me that they are leading us down the road to fascism.
The OAN reporter complained that the left wants to ban books while saying it's the right's "duty... to purge our schools of such filth."
By Alex Bollinger
August 24, 2022
One America News (OAN) reporter Kara McKinney used a photo of Nazis burning books while calling LGBTQ literature “filth” that deserved to be banned earlier this week on her show.
McKinney was ranting about how Democrats “use their outsize media influence” to trick voters into thinking that conservatives want to ban books.
“It’s the [unintelligible] Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals tactic of accusing your political opponent of what you’re doing yourself,” McKinney insisted as she showed an image of the Hitler Youth burning books that were labeled “anti-German” in 1938.
But less than a minute later, she was arguing for banning books.
“I think banning pornographic books from school libraries was not only justifiable, it’s the only moral option,” she said.
[…]
If anything, McKinney’s use of the Hitler Youth image while talking about banning LGBTQ literature is apt; the Nazi Party destroyed Magnus Hirschfeld’s Institute of Sexology – which did pioneering work on understanding LGBTQ identities, including transgender people – in 1933, years before the onset of World War II.
That is where the Republicans and the Christian Nationalist are leading us, down the path to fascism.
A video showing some of the heated exchanges that ensued went viral on Twitter.
Dallas-area freelance investigative journalist Steven Monacelli posted a thread to his Twitter timeline, where he documented the day’s events.
Monacelli also captured this terrifying image of a right-wing extremist menacing the assembled crowd by intimidating them with a baseball bat wrapped in razor wire.
Saturday 9: She's in Love with the Boy
Saturday 9: She's in Love with the Boy (1991)
On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This song tells the story of Katie and Tommy. She waited for him to pull up in his beat-up Chevy truck. Tell us about your wheels.
I have a red 2017 Toyota Prius Prime with 68,000 miles and my mpg is 88 mpg!
2) Katie and Tommy stay out until 12:30 AM. What time did you go to bed last night?
Um… around 10 and I woke up at 3. Fell back to sleep around 5 after having breakfast and woke up around 8.
3) The lyrics tell us, "What's meant to be will always find a way." Do you agree?
No, because I don’t think anything is meant “to be.”
4) This was the first big hit for Trisha Yearwood. While she's found her greatest success in music, she's also written top-selling cookbooks. Are you a better singer or cook?
Cooking! Hands down.
5) Trisha also appeared in six episodes of the TV drama, JAG. She played a medical examiner and forensic pathologist, which means her character had a medical degree and (at least) one year of additional training. That's (at least) five extra years of higher education. Do you enjoy taking classes?
Yes. I was thinking about taking classes at a community college the classes are free for anyone over 65, you can audit the class.
6) In real life, Trisha earned a degree in Business Administration before going into music. She uses what she learned in school, keeping a close eye on her finances and those of her superstar husband, Garth Brooks. Stop The Steal!
Am I Picking On The Republicans? I have accused of picking on the Republicans unjustly. What do you think, should I stay quite and not post articles like this?
Social Security has been in the Republican sights ever since it was created and once again they are flexing their muscles to do away with it.
Opportunity Wisconsin: ICYMI – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Ron Johnson says Social Security “was set up improperly”
WisPolitics.com
Press Release
August 19, 2022
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel [The article is behind a paywall.] on Friday, Senator Ron Johnson “is doubling down” in his criticisms of Social Security, saying that the essential program for Wisconsin seniors “was set up improperly” and that Wisconsin seniors’ retirements should have been subject to the whims of the stock market.
Miranda Stark, Opportunity Wisconsin Deputy Program Director:
“Senator Johnson must stop his attacks against Social Security, saying that the program should be handed off to his rich Wall Street friends instead of guaranteeing a secure retirement for Wisconsin seniors. It’s unconscionable that Senator Johnson would say this bedrock retirement safety net ‘was set up improperly’ and that Wisconsinites who work their whole lives paying into Social Security should lose that guarantee and have it subject to the whims of wealthy Wall Street and big corporate investors. Coming on the heels of his statements that Social Security should be subjected to the whims of the congressional budgeting process, it’s clear that he does not have the program’s — or Wisconsin seniors’ — best interests at heart. We need Senator Johnson to stop playing politics with Social Security.”
That is just what they want have all the money in the sticky hands of their billionaire friends. The Washington Post wrote:
Johnson, however, has suggested that Social Security and Medicare be transformed from entitlement programs, in which budget outlays are decided outside the congressional appropriations process, to programs that Congress decides how much to fund.
Johnson and other Republicans have argued that to save Social Security, changes must be made in how the program is run.
Stop right there!
The Republicans like to call it an entitlement programs… THAT IS A BIG LIE!
Social Security is not an Entitlement Program
The Albany Gazette
By Dr. Charles Garrett Guest columnist
December 22, 2021
It irritates me when I hear politicians, news outlets and other “experts” refer to Social Security as an “entitlement.” I guess you could call it a “pet peeve,” of mine; not sure, but it certainly is an inaccurate characterization!
Social Security is a mandatory contractual retirement benefits trust fund program administered by the United States Government. Employers and employees do their part by paying into the trust fund. The government upholds its end of the contract by paying those to whom benefits have been promised.
When politicians include Social Security and Medicare with “entitlement” programs, they generally include “means tested” welfare system programs consisting of 80 plus federal programs providing cash, food, housing, medical care, social services, training, targeted education aid to the poor and low-income Americans. These include TANF, SNAP, Medicaid and Pell Grants. The costs in 2020 was $838.8 billion. These programs provide an important safety net for many Americans and are “entitlements.” Conversely, Social Security reflects a contractual agreement between those making and receiving contributions backed by the United States Government and managed by the United States Treasury Department.
[…]
Congress contractually, will need to take steps to shore up Social Security’s finances, as it did in 1983, the last time the fund nearly depleted its funds. Social Security is binding contract between our government and its citizens. It is not an entitlement!
The Republicans think that if lie often enough people will think that it an entitlement program. They want to steal our money!
On Speaker’s Nancy Pelosi official website
Republicans just can’t shut up about their contempt for the sacred guarantee of Social Security.  On Wednesday, Sen. Ron Johnson once again showcased the Extreme MAGA Republican contempt for Social Security as we know it — echoing the dangerous plans to dismantle Social Security and Medicare constantly put forward by House and Senate GOPers.
Plans to cut off millions of Americans from these livelihood-protecting programs are thriving in the House GOP as well:
Last year, nearly 65 million Americans received Social Security benefits.  Yet, the Extreme MAGA Republican Study Committee, which represents 157 out of 211 House Republicans, holds slashing Medicare and Social Security as a core tenant of their proposed budget, regardless of the fact they would be leaving their own constituents high and dry.
While Republicans plan to end Social Security in five years, Democrats are doubling down on our plan to lower kitchen table costs for the American people.  With the Democrats’ enacted Inflation Reduction Act, the cost of health care will go down and Medicare will be empowered to negotiate lower prices for seniors on prescription medications.  Congressional Democrats remain committed to protecting Social Security and Medicare from the devastating agenda of Extreme MAGA Republican politicians: keeping People Over Politics.
It took them fifty years to make abortion illegal and during the same time they have been trying to do away with Social Security and Medicare. They want Wall Street and the mega insurance companies so they can pile on the fees!
There is a lot of talk right about the Social Security fund going broke but that can be fixed. Right now if you make over $147,000 a year your Social Security payroll tax is capped at that amount, take the cap off and make the company and employee each pay the 6.2% tax, that will go a long way to getting the fund back into the black. The Republicans don’t like that because their billionaires will have to pay more.
I don’t about you but I paid in to Social Security and Medicare for 50 years and they want to yank that protection out from under us!
Stop the Steal!
It Is Out There!
The right-wing conspiracy theorists are already stirring up the hate against us (There is that word again, so tell is it justified?). I was on a Zoom meeting yesterday on Monkeypox (The say they are going to change the name but everyone still uses it.) and one of the people on the meeting was from the ADL and he posted this like from their website blog,
Right Wing Lies About Monkeypox Target LGBTQ+ Community
From: Center on Extremism
August 8, 2022
Right wing public figures, notably U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), are sharing homophobic and potentially dangerous lies about the transmission of the monkeypox virus. These false narratives, which paint the LGBTQ+ community as child predators, put that community at significant risk. They are also easily debunked.
Background
On July 22, 2022, CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky was interviewed on Washington Post Live to discuss the current state of COVID and other public health issues. During the broadcast, she noted that two children had contracted monkeypox – both of whom could be “traced back to individuals who come from the men-who-have-sex-with-men community.”
On July 23, 2022, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a global health emergency. Later that day at 6:22 pm, Marjorie Taylor Greene shared Walensky's segment about monkeypox in children on several of her social media pages with the caption, “If Monkeypox is a sexually transmitted disease, why are kids getting it?”
[…]
Greene’s post, however, gave the conspiratorial and bigoted theories additional oxygen – and reach.
By the evening of July 25, 2022, the content had appeared verbatim on 8kun’s Q Research board, TheDonald, GreatAwakening.win, and Telegram (including an official Philippines-based Proud Boys channel).
So do you think that justifies using the word “hate?”
Despite these efforts, the heightened focus on monkeypox being transmitted through sexual contact has been used by extremists in conjunction with homophobic slurs and demonization of gay men, as seen in a white supremacist group’s Telegram post from May 21, 2022. In this post, a forwarded message containing vulgar slurs suggested that “as many gays as possible should get together to contract monkeypox”, conflating the transmission of the virus with pride activities:
On July 28, 2022, another post shared in a QAnon-centric Telegram channel included an article alleging that the mainstream media are distorting the narratives surrounding monkeypox in an effort "to hide the epidemic of pedophilia and grooming plaguing America”.
How about now?
The rhetoric coming out of the Republican party is getting deadly, there is going to be violence at some LGBTQ+ event.
Monkeypox-fueled hate echoes the HIV/AIDS era, even in rainbow cities
Washington Post
By Petula Dvorak Columnist
August 18, 2022<
It was a sunny day last week when it finally happened, the thing Jay had left his small, conservative hometown in the South to avoid — hate.
He came here to be his full self. But it was the pink mask and Birkenstock sandals the man singled out as he verbally assaulted the 31-year-old on the Yellow Line last week, using slurs targeting gay people, ranting about monkeypox and advancing into Jay’s personal space as the train stopped in a tunnel.
It’s “people like you that can’t stop going to orgies getting the rest of us killed,” the guy screamed into Jay’s face, as Jay balanced his Trader Joe’s grocery bag and tried to keep his composure.
Jay got off at the next stop, and the man who raged at him didn’t follow. But the man’s hatred — and the silence of others in the Metro car and on the platform after he left the scene — is jarring in a nation where same-sex marriage is legal but discrimination against someone based on who they love is not.
For many in the community they have never had to confront this hatred, for the old-timers this in nothing new, they lived through the violence and hatred of the AIDS/HIV epidemic and the hatred of gays. The San Francisco Gate had this to say about back then,
A significant source of Reagan's support came from the newly identified religious right and the Moral Majority, a political-action group founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell. AIDS became the tool, and gay men the target, for the politics of fear, hate and discrimination. Falwell said "AIDS is the wrath of God upon homosexuals." Reagan's communications director Pat Buchanan argued that AIDS is "nature's revenge on gay men."
With each passing month, death and suffering increased at a frightening rate. Scientists, researchers and health care professionals at every level expressed the need for funding. The response of the Reagan administration was indifference.
And now we are seeing the Republicans once again stirring up the hate and to add gas to the fire are the social network's conspiracy theorist are spreading the lie. Now we see white supremacist marching in the streets of Boston. Now we see Pride events and Drag Queen's Story Hours coming under threats.
And people tell me that I am over reacting about the dangers.
As one person in yesterday’s meet said, it could have started in any community. It is just that one person attended the wrong party.
Another Court Victory.
And another court case that will be going to the Supreme Court!
 A federal appeals court on Thursday said Arkansas can’t enforce its ban on transgender children receiving gender-affirming medical care.
A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a judge’s ruling temporarily blocking the state from enforcing the 2021 law. A trial is scheduled for October before the same judge on whether to permanently block the law.
Arkansas was the first state to enact such a ban, which prohibits doctors from providing gender-confirming hormone treatment, puberty blockers or surgery to anyone under 18 years old, or from referring them to other providers for the treatment. There are no doctors who perform gender-affirming surgery on minors in the state.
“Because the minor’s sex at birth determines whether or not the minor can receive certain types of medical care under the law, Act 626 discriminates on the basis of sex,” the court’s ruling Thursday said.
[…]
“The Eighth Circuit was abundantly clear that the state’s ban on care does not advance any important governmental interest and the state’s defense of the law is lacking in legal or evidentiary support,” Chase Strangio, deputy director for Transgender Justice at the ACLU’s LGBTQ & HIV Project, said in a statement. “The state has no business categorically singling out this care for prohibition.”
Now we will see this going to the Supreme Court mainly I think because other appeal judges have okayed the ban and that will mean the cases will proceed up the chain of courts.
A federal judge in May blocked a similar law in Alabama. A Tennessee ban that was enacted last year on transgender treatments for youth, which is limited to providing gender-confirming hormone treatment to prepubescent minors, remains in effect.
 It seems to me that the Republicans are trying to force down on everyone some weird version of 1950 “Father Knows Best” morality. They are trying to live a Norman Rockwell painting, a little white church with the father in a suit, the mother in a dress with heels, a boy, a girl in a dress with Mary Jane’s on bobby socks, and their dog spot.
Liar Liar Pants On Fire!
 So the pastor lied to his flock, Queerty reported that…
Even after a cease and desist on Friday, the church went ahead with a Saturday performance of the show — this time in secret, after marking the whole thing as “canceled” on Eventbrite.
In their following Sunday sermon, pastor Roman Gutierrez assured the congregation that they had permission, saying, “We would like to once again thank the Hamilton team for giving us the license to perform our version of Hamilton.”
Not only did he lie but he also changed the play to make it anti-LGBTQ+. He really set the bar really low for his congregation, lying and breaking the law all in the name of god.
Hamilton cast said…
In addition to reiterating that they never granted any permissions, the Hamilton team assured folks that they could not disagree more with the church’s discriminatory views.
In a statement to USA Today, a spokesperson stated, “The Hamilton family stands for tolerance, compassion, inclusivity and certainly LGBTQ+ rights.”
In an extra-classy move, the team has already pledged all damage payments from the messy musical to to the South Texas Equality Project, which supports LGBTQ people in the McAllen community.
 What an example he set for his congregation, that they are above the law and do not have to respect the property rights of others, that you can demonize others all in the name of the Lord.
A Victory But For How Long
We just won a small victory in the courts, a federal appeals court ruled in our favor for healthcare.
Gender dysphoria covered by disability law, court rules
AP News
By Denise Lavoie
August 24, 2022
A federal ruling that gender dysphoria is covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act could help block conservative political efforts to restrict access to gender-affirming care, advocates and experts say.
A panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week became the first federal appellate court in the country to find that the 1990 landmark federal law protects transgender people who experience anguish and other symptoms as a result of the disparity between their assigned sex and their gender identity.
The ruling could become a powerful tool to challenge legislation restricting access to medical care and other accommodations for transgender people, including employment and government benefits, advocates said.
“It’s a very important and positive ruling to increase people’s access to gender-affirming care,” said Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality.
This is not the first the disability laws have been used in our favor. A number of state’s courts have ruled that we are protected under a state’s non-discrimination laws under the disability statues, back in 2001 in Massachusetts in the case of Doe v. Yunits as GLAD reported the courts ruled…
GLAD obtained a landmark ruling, in the first reported decision ever in a case brought by a transgender student, that a middle school may not prohibit a transgender student from expressing her female gender identity.  Disciplining a biologically male student for wearing girls’ clothing violates her First Amendment rights of free expression and constitutes sex discrimination.  The Superior Court decision confirms that a school may not exert its authority over a student simply to enforce stereotyped ideas of how boys and girls should look, a ruling that has significant impact for all gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students.
GLAD brought the case against the Brockton School Department when the school prohibited our client, known in court documents only as Pat Doe, from attending school wearing what the principal considered to be girls’ clothing after nearly two years of disciplinary action against Pat for her choice of clothes.
Many in the trans community hated the decision because were are not disable but I have always said “Any port in a storm.” Many states, including Connecticut define disability as anything listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) so there is a sliver lining or maybe a tarnished silver lining with us being listed in the DSM.
A lower court said no way!
A federal judge granted a motion by the sheriff’s office to dismiss the lawsuit, finding that because the Americans with Disabilities Act excluded “gender identity disorders not resulting from physical impairments,” Williams could not sue under the law.
They were not having any of your argument and the case got appealed.
The ruling is binding in the states covered by the Richmond-based 4th Circuit — Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia — but will inevitably be cited in cases in other states, said Kevin Barry, a law professor at Quinnipiac University
The decision came in the case of a transgender woman who sued the Fairfax County sheriff in Virginia for housing her in a jail with men. The decision is not limited to transgender people challenging jail policies, but also applies broadly to all areas of society covered by disability rights law, including employment, government benefits and services and public accommodations, Barry said.
A three-judge panel of the 4th Circuit reversed that ruling, sending the case back to U.S. District Court. They took a rather novel view of the DSM since the name was changed from "Gender Identity Disorder" to "Gender Dysphoria."
The 4th Circuit panel said in its ruling Aug. 16 that there is a distinction between gender identity disorder and gender dysphoria. The court cited advances in medical understanding that led the American Psychiatric Association to remove gender identity disorder from the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and to add gender dysphoria, defined in the manual as the “clinically significant distress” felt by some transgender people. Symptoms can include intense anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.
The modern diagnosis of gender dysphoria “affirms that a transgender person’s medical needs are just as deserving of treatment and protection as anyone else’s,” Judge Diana Gribbon Motz wrote in the majority opinion.
As I said you know darn well that this is going all the was up to the Supreme Court where it will be a crap-shoot.
Wording becomes very important.
I remember the discussion that we had when the Connecticut non-discrimination wording was being decided, take a look at the wording of the Connecticut law,
(21) "Gender identity or expression" means a person's gender-related identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that gender-related identity, appearance or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with the person's physiology or assigned sex at birth, which gender-related identity can be shown by providing evidence including, but not limited to, medical history, care or treatment of the gender-related identity, consistent and uniform assertion of the gender-related identity or any other evidence that the gender-related identity is sincerely held, part of a person's core identity or not being asserted for an improper purpose.
Nowhere in it do you see the word “transgender” and that was on purpose because definitions change over time. The next thing to notice nowhere does it say that the person needs to have medical intervention and that was done because many trans people cannot afford medical treatment and also nothing says you have to be living full time. The part about “appearance” was to cover crossdressers and drag queens/kings and it was written to broad as to cover non-trans people, “cis-gender” all that is needed to be covered by the law is for the other person to think you are trans.
We want to make sure something like changing the name in the DSM did gut the bill.
It Is An Honor And A Privileged.
Last year I was appointed to the Governor’s Hate Crime Advisory Council and we just come out with our proposals.
Hate is a crime
State council advisory only, but new state police unit and FBI have the authority
Journal Inquirer
By Eric Bedner
August 20, 2022
With a large majority of hate crimes in the state and country targeting minorities, Connecticut has established a council to help address the issue, but the working group lacks substantive power.
The Connecticut Hate Crimes Advisory Council, housed within the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, consists of legal experts, civil rights activists, and leaders of various faith communities.
The creation of the council comes as some Black and other minority residents argue they aren’t treated equally, particularly families of missing Black women, who have said law enforcement does not prioritize their cases.
So right now we are narrowing our suggestions to six and we will meet next month to review them.
State law defines hate crimes as intimidation based on bigotry or bias against those with physical, mental, or intellectual disabilities; gender identity or expression; religion; national origin; alienage; color; race; sex; sexual orientation; blindness; or physical disability.
A person can be found guilty of a first degree hate crime — a Class C felony — when the perpetrator “maliciously, and with specific intent to intimidate or harass another person motivated in whole or in substantial part” by the specific categories covered under hate crime laws, and causes physical injury to the victim or a third party.
A second degree hate crime — a Class D felony — occurs when the offender causes physical contact with a person in a protected category; damages, destroys, or defaces property of such person; or threatens by word or act to cause them harm.
There was also a new law passed last session to create a unit with the state police.
Connecticut lawmakers push to strengthen hate crime investigations amid rise of incidents
Hartford Courant
By Christopher Keating
April 15, 2022
With hate crimes increasing nationally and in Connecticut, lawmakers are pushing to enhance investigations by state police.
Lawmakers have been looking to force the state police to create a hate crimes unit, but the bill was delayed last year. In October, public safety commissioner James Rovella established the unit on his own, but a bill, passed 32-1 by the state Senate Wednesday, would codify it into law and essentially block future commissioners from dismantling it, officials said.
“Connecticut currently doesn’t have in place a uniform system of investigating hate crimes, nor any real-time, consistent sharing of information of hate crime investigations among law enforcement in the state,” said Sen. Cathy Osten, co-chairwoman of the legislature’s public safety committee. “This bill will ensure that we are providing our law enforcement with the resources and tools necessary to properly monitor, investigate and communicate with hates crimes investigations.’'
Notice the vote in the Senate 32 to 1. Who was that one senator?
The bill received widespread support from Republicans, including Sen. Dan Champagne, a retired police officer. Sen. Rob Sampson, a Wolcott Republican, was the only lawmaker who voted against the measure.
Does that name sound familiar?
Yesterday I wrote about a bill to deny us health insurance, back then he was a Representative in the House.
Most people don’t know what a hate crime is. It is not a verbal non-threatening attack, they can say anything and call you anything and it is not a hate crime. They cross the line when they make a verbal or physical threat or physically attack you because of a protected class.
A lot of conservatives don’t believe in hates crimes, they do think murdering someone because they are black or trans should be relevant but it goes to motive.
Take a bar fight…
If a person pushes a person in a bar and the other person falls over backward and hit their head… that is the lowest class of murder.
If a person grabs a beer bottle and whacks another person on the head and kills them, that is the next class up for murder.
Now if a person goes to their car grabs a gun and comes back in to the bar to shoot them, that is premeditated murder, the highest class of murder.
Suppose you’re in a bar and somebody say “Get out of my way you little Fa***t!” that is a hate crime because the motive was because the other person was a member of a protected class (bias against those with physical, mental, or intellectual disabilities; gender identity or expression; religion; national origin; alienage; color; race; sex; sexual orientation; blindness; or physical disability).
Dumb, And Dumber.
As we all know from COVID disease doesn’t care about your politics, who you love, how you identify, or the color of your skin; it is an equal opportunity infection.
This morning I wrote about the far-right attempt to cut our health insurance but it goes a lot deeper that that, they also want to deny us the medications needed to prevent the spread of diseases.
The conservative are trying to label Monkeypox as another “gay” disease but it is spreading through the whole population, it just came to America in the gay community first. Now the right-wing born-again’s are resurrecting their bigotry on those with HIV/AIDS.
Far-Right's 'Morality War' Now Has Its Sights Set on PrEP Access
Plus via Yahoo
By Christopher Wiggins
August 23, 2022
The right-wing movement is really having a moment right now, from stripping the federal right to abortion to the prohibition of gender-affirming care in some states. Now, in the shadow of Roe v. Wade being overturned in June, the architect of a controversial Texas abortion law — a man who has already targeted marriage equality — is setting his sights on preventative HIV care. If he gets his way, Texans and other Americans could lose access to PrEP, leaving tens of thousands susceptible to a diagnosis and opening the door to the denial of HIV care.
[...]
Mitchell now represents several clients who oppose the Affordable Care Act’s mandate that insurance companies cover PrEP medications, among other things, in Braidwood Management v. Becerra, filed in federal court in the northern district of Texas in 2020.
You see in their any sex outside of marriage is a sin so therefore PrEP is an evil drug in that it promotes “gay sex” and sex outside of marriage.
“The PrEP mandate forces religious employers to provide coverage for drugs that facilitate and encourage homosexual behavior, prostitution, sexual promiscuity, and intravenous drug use,” the lawsuit says. Furthermore, the law requires religious employers and religious individuals who purchase health insurance to subsidize these behaviors to obtain health insurance, Mitchell argues.
Diseases is an equal opportunity infector, given a chance it will infect everyone!
If HIV/AIDS is no longer being control it will spread like wildfire through out the entire population!
But these people are on a mission from god! To wipe out all the gays*!
They have handed picked the court that they have filed in because the court is anti-LGBTQ+.
Caraballo warns that the circuit in which Mitchell filed the lawsuit and the case’s presiding judge, Reed O’Connor, — appointed by George W. Bush — are no friends of the LGBTQ+ community.
“When it comes to this kind of lawsuit, you have to know the context of where it’s filed,” Caraballo says. “[Conservative attorneys] know how to game the system to get particular judges like...Reed O’Connor.”
A coalition of conservative groups sued the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to allow them to discriminate based on religious grounds, and O’Connor ruled in 2021 that they could proceed. This was despite the Supreme Court extending employment protections for LGBTQ+ people a year earlier. O’Connor struck down Obama-era health insurance protections for LGBTQ+ people and ruled the Affordable Care Act was unconstitutional (the Supreme Court later reversed O’Connor’s rulings).
“You can file in a certain office, and you can get guaranteed a judge — and those judges have been stacked — that isn’t just conservative; these judges are reactionary,” Caraballo says. “So [lawyers] can be explicitly homophobic in their complaint and say, ‘Hey, this is our religious belief.’”
Caraballo notes that because PrEP isn’t just for LGBTQ+ people but for anyone at risk of HIV, the arguments “plainly fail.”
This is going all the way to the Supreme Court and the way the Republicans has packed the court system with Christian judges it is a crap shoot! I also foresee them attacking the free Monkeypox vaccines the same way.
If they win I foresee HIV/AIDS becoming wild again!
Attacking Our Healthcare: Project Blitz.
 There is a concerted effort by the far right and Republicans to deny us healthcare. Here in Connecticut there was a bill that was introduced in 2015 by Rep. Rob Sampson (R 80th) to strip us health insurance, HB 5193, An Act Concerning Health Insurance Coverage for Gender Reassignment Surgery.
The bill read,
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That title 38a of the general statutes be amended to specify that health insurance policies delivered, issued for delivery, renewed, amended or continued in this state shall not be required to provide coverage for gender reassignment surgery or related surgical expenses.
Statement of Purpose:
To specify that health insurance policies delivered, issued for delivery, renewed, amended or continued in this state shall not be required to provide coverage for gender reassignment surgery or related surgical expenses.
With the Democratic controlled legislature the bill was DOA but they still submitted it to make a point, the representative who submitted the bill bill said in a CT Post article,
State Rep. Robert Sampson, R-Wolcott and sponsor of the bill, said his intention is to correct a "mandate" by the State Insurance Department directing insurance companies to cover the procedure.
Sampson said such decisions should be vetted by the Legislature.
I wouldn’t have a problem of being vetted by the legislature if it was true… in public hearing insurance was brought up, on the floor of the House and Senate it was discussed. The legislators knew what they were voting on.
So that brings me to what I wanted to discuss today, the assault on our healthcare. I came across a paper on the attempt to swash our healthcare.
Under Attack: Transgender Health In 2020
Journal of Health Care Law and Policy
Volume 24Issue 1
By Paula M. Neira and An Na Lee
INTRODUCTION
Anxiety. Fear. Frustration. These words described 2020 for most people. However, for transgender and gender-diverse people (“TGD”), who have endured health disparities and inequity prior to the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic, these feelings were amplified. The 21st century’s second decade promised hopeful progress in advancing TGD people’s rights and improvements in their healthcare. Rather than the historically negative tropes portraying TGD people as deviants or as a joke’s punchline, TGD people were portrayed positively with their issues discussed seriously in mainstream media. With passage of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“ACA”) in 2010, an increased number of individuals obtained access to health insurance coverage. Transgender military personnel gained the ability to serve authentically and access medically necessary care when the ban on their service ended in 2016. With the election of Donald Trump, those gains were threatened by concerted actions driven by partisan politics that ignored medical science and best practices.
So who is behind this attack on our healthcare? Why now?
II. RELIGIOSITY & POLITICS: AN UNHOLY ALLIANCE
The alliance between faith-based organizations and the Republican Party (“GOP”) long predated the Trump administration. The GOP’s demonizing of sexual and gender minority communities to further partisan politics is not new. Yet, the toxic combination of religiosity and partisan politics embraced by the Trump administration, emboldened those who have harbored long-standing anti-TGD animus to seek actions designed to roll back or deny civil rights and services, including access to healthcare, to the TGD community. In 2018, the Kansas GOP state committee, voted to “oppose all efforts to validate transgender identity.” In effect, the Kansas GOP sought to eliminate the existence of TGD people from society. In opposing the provision of medically necessary care to TGD people, the committee resolution affirmed that “God’s design for gender as determined by biological sex and not by self-perception.” The Family Research Council, the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), and Liberty Counsel, all self-proclaimed to be faith-based organizations, have championed actions that have direct and indirect negative health implications for TGD Americans. These organizations are designated as anti-LGBTQ hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center for their continued defamation, intentional misinformation, and willful intellectual dishonesty about TGD people. While some of their efforts predate the 2016 elections, Trump’s victory was a catalyst for furthering their agenda.
You might recognize Alliance Defending Freedom they are the ones who brought the law suit here in Connecticut over trans athletes and they have also had their hand in many anti-trans bill.
An agenda designed to harm TGD individuals by removing civil protections, denying medical care, and fostering societal stigmatization and discrimination, was first laid out in 2016 with the launch of “Project Blitz” during a teleconference between, the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation, the National Legal Foundation, and WallBuilders, all self-identified Christian organizations, and state legislators. Attacking TGD people is only part of a broader objective of imposing a sectarian-based government at all levels in the United States. Initially, these groups distributed a guide with twenty model bills to over 750 state legislators in 2018. In 2019, Project Blitz, since renamed “Freedom for All,” produced an expanded guide with twenty-one model bills along with strategic guidance and talking points. In 2020, Freedom for All was behind the majority of the 226 anti-LGBTQ bills proposed across the country in various state legislatures. Approximately ninety of the bills can be considered anti-transgender.
This is not something new, they have been planning the assault on us a long time, just like when they overturned Roe v. Wade they been refining their strategy for many years. They put judges who favor their view of hate against us, they have hand picked legislators who share their hatred of us. And now they are bring to fruition.
The Trump administration did everything they could to wipe us out!
While the Trump administration took broad steps to remove TGD people from data collection such as declining to include sexual and gender minority demographics from the 2020 census, HHS has consistently attempted to remove the TGD community from health data collection.1 An early Trump administration action erased health data collection on transgender seniors...
...HHS removed the emphasis on health inequities and disparities for minority populations…
[…]
However, the most troubling action to perpetuate discrimination against TGD in healthcare was HHS’s issuance of a final rule reinterpreting §1557 of the ACA. Under the Obama administration’s guidance, discrimination on the basis of sexual stereotyping and gender identity was prohibited as forms of sex discrimination…
[…]
The rollback of protections for TGD youth began within one month of Donald Trump’s inauguration with the reversal of the guidance from 2016 requiring schools to protect transgender youth under Title IX...
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
IV. CONCLUSION
The state of TGD health in 2020 was precarious. The Trump administration’s ascent was a catalyst for advancing a sectarian-based, partisan agenda designed to regress TGD civil rights and to enhance existing barriers to medical care. Despite the government’s own findings, medical experts’ advice, and public opposition, multiple federal departments and state legislatures, then controlled by the Republican party, proposed or enacted policy and law that will impair the health of already-marginalized individuals and populations.
This report was released in 2020 and the conservatives have taking their effort against us on us to the states claiming “States Rights” and you know that if the get a federal trifecta that all the talk of “states rights” will go out the window and they will pass anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
Our only hope is to vote them out of office! You can't vote your pocketbook for this election you have to vote for the future of your country.
Is This Their Best?
The quality of candidates and types of candidates leaves you wondering what type of swamp creatures are they nominating.
Kari Lake will disavow gay-bashing antisemite or the election is over
Opinion: If Lake doesn't rescind her endorsement of Jarrin Jackson, she'll provide proof-positive she is unfit for governor.
Arizona will seldom have moments of clarity like this, so let’s get to the brutal facts.
One of our two-major party candidates for governor has just endorsed a man who hates Jewish people, despises gay people and wants no Black or brown immigrants in this country.
Jarrin Jackson is no casual bigot. He has produced such a stream of internet bile he can only be seen as a committed anti-Semite, homophobe and racist – one of the most vile people in political life, unfit for government and unwelcome in polite society.
And yet Jarrin Jackson, Republican candidate for the Oklahoma state Senate, tweeted on Wednesday that he has won the endorsement of Kari Lake, Arizona Republican candidate for governor. There he was photoshopped together with the smiling Lake, two peas in a tweet.
[…]
On the social media app Telegram and other forums, Jackson said:
  • Using the phrase LGBTQ “is using language designed by Satan.”
  • “LGBTQ is the gateway to pedophilia.”
  • “Call me old fashioned, but I don’t want a society of homosexuals.”
  • “(Being gay) is the most disgusting, despicable, stupid blehh (makes gagging noise) thing ever. Insert barf emoji. And yet, we’re supposed to celebrate this and supposed to treat it like it’s normal?"
  • "All Jews will go to hell if they don't believe the gospel of Jesus Christ … just like everybody else."
  • "I love Jews because Christ told me to, not because they deserve it."
  • "I'm not beholden to Jews or any other group."
  • "I ain't owned by the Jews. I worship Jesus Christ. He's my Messiah."
On and on he goes.
GOP Candidate Says FBI Agents Would Be Put In 'Body Bag' If His Home Were Searched
Despite the controversy blowing up over the video Saturday, Sarasota businessman Martin Hyde defended his remarks.
A Florida Republican candidate for Congress threatened that FBI agents would go “home in a body bag” if they ever try to search his house the way they did Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.
In a shocking video he posted to YouTube on Saturday, Sarasota businessman Martin Hyde said, “I wish they’d turn up at my home ’cause they’d have gone home in a body bag.”
“When they turned up at Mar-a-Lago and raided the home of President Trump, that was an assault on every one of the 75 million people who voted for Donald Trump. It was an assault on democracy,” Hyde baselessly claimed in the video. “These people would stop at nothing.”
I’m telling you it is a race to the bottom of the swamp for the Republican party.
Hageman has also said she supports all of Donald Trump‘s policies, which, of course, included things like the trans military ban, stripping away funding from homeless shelters that house queer folx, scrubbing LGBTQ people from the 2020 census, slashing health services to those living with HIV, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.
Pro-Trump Candidate Calls for Executing Parents of LGBTQ+ Kids
Mark Burns described the fight for LGBTQ+ rights as a treasonous attempt to “destabilize the republic.”
The Trump-endorsed Republican candidate in South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District called for the arrest and execution of those who advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and the protection of trans children.
During an appearance on The Stew Peters Show, Pastor Mark Burns was asked by host Jane Ruby to commit to voting for transphobic laws that target LGBTQ+ children and their parents and ending what she called “this war on children.” Burns went much further than committing to voting for legislation.
“Not only will I vote to make sure that those parents be held for child abuse because there’s no such thing as trans kids, only abusive parents, period,” Burns responded adding that trans-supportive parents are unnaturally influencing their children’s development.
GOP governor candidate Michels opposes same-sex marriage
Donald Trump’s endorsed candidate for Wisconsin governor is standing by his opposition to same-sex marriage, telling The Associated Press that he believes “marriage should be between a man and a woman.”
Tim Michels, co-owner of Michels Corp. construction company, is one of four Republicans running for a chance to take on Democratic Gov. Tony Evers in November and this month won the former president’s endorsement. Michels spoke with the AP on Tuesday about the race.
His views on same-sex marriage have been in question after he made comments in his U.S. Senate race in 2004 when he backed a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. He did not comment when asked earlier this month what he thought of Evers raising a rainbow flag over the state Capitol to celebrate Pride Month.
“My position that is that marriage should be between a man and a woman,” Michels said when asked about it Tuesday.
'Flow from the pulpit:' The LifeGate church members providing security to Doug Mastriano [Video]
Doug Mastriano is running an unconventional campaign for governor. He’s not raising a lot of money. He prefers to attend closed-door events with his base or campaign at public events where reporters are often kept at arm's length.
But the Republican nominee’s campaign is also notable for another reason: Mastriano has surrounded himself with a non-professional, armed security team whose members include at least one person with direct ties to a militia group.
Mastriano’s detail includes several members of a relatively new evangelical church near Elizabethtown, LifeGate, whose leaders have spoken openly about electing Christians to office to advance biblical principles in government.
[…]
Emery [A member of the security team], along with fellow LifeGate members Stephen and Danielle Lindemuth, won seats on the Elizabethtown Area School Board just a few days before Lamb’s sermon. A political yard sign for the three was placed on LifeGate property.
This year, LifeGate members campaigned to win seats to the local Republican committee. In a break between sermons in March, LifeGate member Sharon Ogilvie encouraged members to get active by signing petitions for local candidates.
All around the country anti-LGBTQ+ candidate have been picked in primaries if the Republicans gain control of the Senate and House we are going to dozens of anti-LGBTQ+ bill introduced and it is my guess that they will not stop at us but also gays and lesbians. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has already introduced a bill Friday that would make providing gender-affirming medical care to transgender minors a felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
They have nominated a bunch of anti-Semites, homophobes, transphobes, and racist for office.
This is our future if the Republicans win.
Their wins are usually by only a few percentage points, they are able to rally their anti-Semites, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and racist base to get out in vote. We need to get out the independent voters to vote, we need to motivate them to see why their vote is important.
