Saturday 9: That's So True

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Gracie Abrams can't stop thinking about her ex. Who is on your mind this morning?
Grocery shopping.

2) She wonders if she should warn his new girl about him. Think of the last time someone offered you advice. Did you take it?
Yes, take the next left. A voice came out of my dash and said that the next left in a quarter mile.

3) She concludes her old boyfriend wasn't worthy of her love and attention, and now sees him as "just another dude." What is something you regret spending time on? (It doesn't have to be a romance.)
Waiting in line for my prescriptions… they will be ready this afternoon. They weren’t.

4) On July 31, Gracie Abrams performed at Lollapalooza in Chicago. More than 100,000 attended the first day of the outdoor festival. It was sunny and 79º. Describe your perfect day (weatherwise).
Having friends over just sitting around talking outside if the weather is nice, sitting outside around a firepit about 65° and a full moon. Now there are no bugs!!!!

5) Gracie's father is J.J. Abrams, perhaps best known for directing the 2009 Star Trek movie and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Would you rather watch Star Trek or Star Wars?
The original movies were good and unique but now they are just cookie cutters of the orginals.

6) She is very much a 21st century artist in that she doesn't rely on radio to introduce her music to her fans, often sharing demos on TikTok. Do you watch, or create content for, TikTok?
Nope to other social media I only use Facebook

7) In 2024, when "That's So True" was released, Madonna set a record. Her free concert in Brazil drew the largest audience (1.6 million) ever. What's your favorite Madonna song?
Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina

My mother didn’t think very much of Madonna at first because of the costumes that Madonna wore performing but then came a “League of Their Own” and “Evita” she changed her view on her

8) Also in 2024, former President Jimmy Carter died. In addition to his work in politics and philanthropy, Mr. Carter wrote more than 30 books. Who wrote the last book you finished?
Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicle, “The Wise Man's Fear

I had to go to my spreadsheet for my books (I started read/listening to books I had previously read so to counter that I now have a spreadsheet with all the books read or listened to before) and it is even hard to track library books at least when I buy a book or audiobook I have it, so I record them in a spreadsheet now. I have about 190 titles.

9) Random question: What sound stresses you out?
Well it was chalk on a blackboard… but now no one uses chalk. However, one of the advantage of having your hearing start to fade is that sounds don’t stress you out if you can’t hear them.
Bet you never thought of that!

I had company up for the week and this is from the sunset in town... The bridge to Lieutenant Island.

  1. That sunset is beautiful.

I like Madonna, but I hated her in … well, “hated” is too strong, but … I was lucky to see “Evita” during its original Broadway run, I had the Broadway cast album memorized…Madonna does not have the vocal range to do justice to Sir Andrew’s score.

  2. #8: I completely get that! I let Goodreads keep track of the my reading for me, and it's really a help.

  3. Oh the pharmacies. I give them a few days before I go up there to get my medicine. I do not like it when they say it will be ready and isn't. I have to drive a bit to get there. The sunset picture is beautiful! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  4. That was a good Madonna choice. I had to listen to it. I like her voice, and I think I bought one of her cassette tapes back in the 80's. It is probably in a box in the garage. I have read lots of book and wish I would have kept a list. I have a list of the Christian books I started reading in the 90's. But I read many before that. That is a nice sunset picture!

  5. I use a spreadsheet for my books, too. I have since about 2007, and it has 901 titles on it right now. So about 50 books a year, give or take.
