Trump administration says more oil is flowing through Strait of Hormuz

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said on social media that nearly 9 million barrels of oil a day are getting shipped through the Strait of Hormuz — as the administration is suggesting that the supply pressures tied to the Iran war are easing.

Wright said that along with additional oil flowing through pipelines total oil flows from the region are averaging roughly 15 million barrels a day.

U.S. oil futures prices remain above the pre-war levels, with a barrel trading on Tuesday afternoon at $83. The Trump administration has tapped the strategic petroleum reserve to steady the market and that reserve last week fell below 300 million barrels, down by more than 100 million barrels since the start of 2026.

Wright is setting expectations that oil will keep going through the strait.

In a “rare move,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro convened a special grand jury in Washington amid frustrations from President Donald Trump, according to a new report.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Pirro summoned a legal body that could allow federal prosecutors to investigate major and controversial cases, per government officials.

Trump claimed Sunday that a defendant was caught by a National Park Service employee, who he dubbed a “highly credible witness,” vandalizing the pool’s coating by “‘violently’ ripping and tugging” at it.

“There was substantial other damage to the Reflecting Pool, also but, unfortunately, there is no video or proof, other than the damage, itself,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

U.S. Atty. Pirro is now caught between a rock and a hard place; she cannot go and unspeak her words! She is walking a tightrope between perjuring herself...

Trump’s anger with Pirro first surfaced earlier this month, as the president bluntly wrote online: “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, on the Reflecting Pool. I don’t know what she was thinking?”

He has continued to put pressure on the top federal prosecutor to revisit the case.

“Now that people are able to see it up close, they are reporting pure VANDALISM at The Reflecting Pool,” Trump said online on Friday, adding that it was a “hastily made decision” by Pirro.

He has had security cameras installed around the Reflecting Pool... this is reminding me of Captain Queeg and the strawberries.

U.S. Central Command said the two deaths occurred on Friday and that a third U.S. service member was missing in action. The announcement brought the number of U.S. service members killed since the war began to 16, while more than 420 have been wounded.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday claimed it destroyed three US F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jets and severely damaged three more in a ballistic missile strike on Jordan's al-Azraq Air Base, in what, if verified, would mark one of the most significant losses of America's most advanced combat aircraft.

According to a statement carried by Iran International, the attack targeted an aircraft parking area and a maintenance hangar at the base in response to a US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island. The IRGC also claimed that several US military officers and maintenance personnel were killed in the strike.

The United States has not confirmed the claim, and there has been no independent verification of the reported destruction or damage to the aircraft.

The March sequence alone is remarkably repetitive. PolitiFact's timeline, for example, documents the March 9, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17 statements, including Trump saying the war would be over soon, that Iran was essentially finished, and that the U.S. would leave in the “very near future.”

And the August 6 statement is particularly important for your original question, because it is after the June agreement and after the earlier predictions had already failed to produce a lasting end. Reuters reports that Trump said he expected the war to end “pretty soon” and that Iran couldn't sustain it much longer.

And yes, we should include the other officials

For example, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was saying on March 8 that the operation was “only just the beginning,” directly contradicting Trump's imminent-end messaging.

That's actually useful because it lets us distinguish:

The United States’ military attacks against Iran were barely a week old when a controversial topic surfaced: Could the war require the first military draft since the early 1970s?

After White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt spoke to Fox News host Maria Bartiromo March 8, some portrayed her comments as President Donald Trump opening the door to a military draft.

Here’s the exchange:

Bartiromo: “Mothers out there are worried that we’re going to have a draft — that they’re going to see their sons and daughters get involved in this. What do you want to say about the president’s plans for troops on the ground? As we know, it’s been largely an air campaign up until now.”

Leavitt: “It has been, and it will continue to be, and President Trump, wisely, does not remove options off of the table. I know a lot of politicians like to do that quickly, but the president, as commander in chief, wants to continue to assess the success of this military operation. It’s not part of the current plan right now, but the president, again, wisely keeps his options on the table.”

Now, with Trump's War going badly and Trump threatening to blow Iran out of existence... well, it kind of makes you think, with all the rhetoric, that it could be true.

Trump weighed in on ground troops — but not a draft — during March 7 remarks to reporters on Air Force One. Responding to a question about ground troops, he said, “Could there be? Possibly, for a very good reason. Have to be a very good reason.”

Now five months latter????? Will it hold true? Vox wrote last week,

It is true: if Trump & Company try to impose a draft for Trump's War in Iran, there will be a terrible backlash, and it could doom the Republican Party.

The Pentagon has updated its public-facing casualty database after abruptly revising its Iran war casualty figures last week, when it reduced the number of U.S. troops listed as killed in Operation Epic Fury from 18 to 14 and removed dozens of wounded service members from that tally.

The Defense Department now appears to be tracking casualties in its Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) under a new category labeled Overseas Operations rather than Operation Epic Fury, the namesake previously used for the Iran campaign – in effect restarting its accounting of dead and wounded in the war.

So the Trump administration goes to their fallback position... lie, fudge the numbers, and change the rules!

Parsing out individual phases of a war from a broader campaign, as the Defense Department is now appearing to do, is unprecedented and can make it difficult to get a clear accounting of U.S. casualties. 

Trump is trying to obfuscate the war dead in Iran; he knows that the nightly number is what did in his predecessors, so true to form, Trump hides the numbers.

The issue is not simply how much money Trump made or that he made it at all; it is that the money comes from industries his administration regulates, foreign relationships his administration oversees and markets that can rise or fall based on the policies, enforcement decisions, diplomatic relationships and public signals of the office he holds.

But what we are seeing is shocking enough. To pick but one example: In early 2025, World Liberty Financial, a Trump family-backed crypto venture, issued USD1, its stablecoin pegged to the dollar. Within weeks, the United Arab Emirates-owned investment fund MGX used USD1 in connection with a $2 billion investment in crypto company Binance. Donald Trump Jr. helped take an online retailer known as the “Amazon of guns” public last year. Now, GrabAGun, where the U.S. president's son is a shareholder and board member, could reap a windfall from a proposed rule change at Trump's Bureau of Alcohol, ​Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that would make it easier to ship guns directly to people's homes.

If finalized, the rule would be among the most consequential changes to the U.S. gun policy in two decades, potentially driving huge growth in online gun sales, ‌according to ten industry officials, store owners, and gun-control advocates interviewed by Reuters.

The proposal would allow licensed dealers to ship firearms directly to in-state residents who undergo an online identity verification and background check, along with a seven-day waiting period after notifying local law enforcement. Currently, online buyers must pick up firearms at physical stores and undergo in-person background checks unless they have a permit.

Some gun shop owners, industry officials and gun control advocates argue the direct shipping of firearms poses significant public safety and security risks and threatens the viability of small brick-and-mortar gun shops.

The change could benefit Trump Jr., whose more than 300,000 shares, opens new tab in GrabAGun are worth more than $700,000 – down from more than $5 million last year.

The rule is one of 34 deregulatory measures proposed by ATF this spring in ​response to a February 2025 presidential executive order, opens new tab to expand gun access.

Marianna Mitchem, a senior firearms industry advisor at Everytown for Gun Safety, worked at ATF for more than 20 years, including about four as the industry liaison. She said the industry had never asked for a similar policy in her interactions and ​that physical gun shops had historically played a key role in vetting owners.

“ATF always says the gun store is the first line of defense in gun safety,” said Mitchem, who opposes the proposed rule. “But now they are flipping it."

It's official: President Donald J. Trump International Airport is open for business.

The South Florida facility was called Palm Beach International Airport for over half a century until Thursday, when a months-old state law took effect, adding the airport to the growing list of places and things that now bear President Trump's name.

Eric Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, said the president's plane was the first to land at the newly renamed airport at 5:01 a.m. on Thursday.

"There is no person who has done more for Florida and our country, and no one more deserving of this incredible honor," he wrote on X. "As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials 'DJT' on my boarding pass."

However we all know Trump, there is a buck in it for him;

Trump also took the unusual step of registering trademarks for the airport's new name.

DTTM Operations, the private company that manages Trump's intellectual property, filed three applications in February, for "DJT," "President Donald J. Trump International Airport" and "Donald J. Trump International Airport." As of this week, all are pending approval.

Trump Organization spokesperson Kimberly Benza told NPR over email that "it is the company's normal practice to file for trademark protection because the 'Trump' name and brand is internationally known and a frequent target of infringers, counterfeiters and unauthorized users around the world."

Trump and the Trump Organization have denied any attempts to gain financially from the effort. But the move to trademark the name has raised questions about whether Trump could benefit.

• It is estimated that ~1,400–1,700 Iranian civilians were killed including ~120 schoolchildren killed in the one missile attack on the school.
• At least 13 U.S. service members killed and ~380 wounded
• And what it has done to our allies in the region is beyond calculations.

What Trump did not get...

❌ No regime change (Iran’s government remains intact)

❌ No confirmed dismantling of Iran’s missile program

❌ No full shutdown of Iran’s proxy networks

❌ No permanent or fully verified nuclear rollback

❌ No decisive military defeat of Iran

What Iran got...

✅ Return to global oil markets

✅ Partial access to frozen assets

✅ Easing of shipping and maritime restrictions

“We found it unbelievable that they could send someone who held views and values contrary to democracy, human rights, peace and Europe,” said resident Chantal Richard. To her, the incongruence felt deeply personal. “We grew up going to D-day ceremonies, some of us had grandparents or parents whose lives were affected by this war.”

The view led Richard and the 40 or so other members of Langrune en Commun, a residents’ association, to sign a 179-word statement. Published days before the 82nd anniversary of the D-day landings, it called for Hegseth’s visit to be cancelled.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Sunday refuted the idea that the U.S. is facing a crisis with its munitions stockpile, despite testifying earlier this year that replenishing the stockpile could take "months and years."

"That is a manufactured story that the media wants to peddle and ultimately our stockpiles are great, and they're only getting stronger," Hegseth said on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan."

Weeks after the ceasefire began in the war with Iran, Hegseth testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee on the Pentagon's $1.5 trillion budget request. During the April 30 hearing, Hegseth estimated that it could take "months and years" to replenish the stockpile as the Iran war had stretched on for months. Hegseth called the timeline "fast," and he noted that the speed will depend on the weapon system.

"I think it's widely understood that when you attack over 10,000 targets from the air with cruise missiles and ballistic missiles and bombs from airplanes, you are using a lot of munitions, and we do not have an endless supply of these things," Kelly said. "So now we're in a posture where we've got to be incredibly careful."

On Saturday Trump posted a comment on his dedicated propaganda platform, Truth Social, declaring that an alleged “peace” deal would be signed Sunday (today). So far, there’s been no confirmation of that.

On Sunday morning Trump’s Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, was interviewed on CBS News’ Face the Nation by Margaret Brennan. During their discussion Hegseth admitted something that totally contradicts what Trump has been lying about for years with regard to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiated by the Obama administration to halt Iran’s nuclear aspirations.

Hegseth: Obama begged Iran for a deal. We bombed Iran, and then put in a blockade…The document says Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, won’t seek one, won’t buy one, won’t have one.

Brennan: JCPOA said that too.

Hegseth: But they didn’t have the threat of military force the way that we do…and that’s why they’re at the table. The huge difference is we did this from a position of strength. Trump led with military might.

I hear that Hegseth is hopping around on one foot now. Somehow, in Pete Hegseth's mind, blasting a country into ruin is better than sitting down peacefully and negotiating a treaty.

Do I think Trump will fire him? No, his Christian Nationalist base is too strong.

The president has floated an invasion of the island after economic and political pressure failed to topple the Communist government. But the Navy’s built-up presence in the region — the largest in the world outside the Middle East — would allow the U.S. to act immediately.

Vladimir Putin is losing the Russian people as the economy and his war machine go in reverse amid withering Ukrainian attacks.

On the economic front, Putin himself recently revealed that GDP contracted in the first two months of the year. And on the Ukraine front, Russian forces suffered a net loss of territory last month for the first time since 2024.

After Russia launched a sudden invasion in 2022, Putin has not only failed to defeat Ukraine, his forces have been unable to take full control of the Donetsk region.

“The overall mood is that’s enough already; you’ve been fighting for long enough,” a Russian official told the Washington Post last week on condition of anonymity. “It seems to everyone that it’s been going on for longer than World War II, the Great Patriotic War — and at the same time we can’t even take one region.”

With Western military aid and innovations from Ukraine’s now-thriving domestic defense industry, Kyiv has weakened Russia’s economy and military.

Long-range drone strikes deep into Russian territory have damaged key oil-export hubs and “shadow fleet” tankers transporting sanctioned crude.

While Trump's war here has driven gas prices to over $4.00 a gallon, crude oil is sitting at $120 per barrel; a roughly 44% increase from pre-war levels. Inflation rose from 2.4% in February to 3.3% in March 2026, while that 0.9% jump might seem small numerically, in the world of macroeconomics, it’s a massive "spike" for a single month. And Trump is bottoming out in the polls.

With snow lending a deceptive calm to the forested landscape of Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region, the war between Russia and Ukraine feels distant, but for recruitment posters and conscription patrols combing mountain roads.

Yet the war is casting a large shadow here, shaped through the lens of a conflict much closer to home: the one between Kyiv and Budapest over Zakarpattia’s Hungarian minority.

Zakarpattia, or Transcarpathia, is home to tens of thousands of ethnic Hungarians, and their well-being is a central talking point in the nationalist rhetoric of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who is widely viewed as sympathetic to Moscow and critical of Ukraine. Mr. Orbán frequently alleges that Ukraine’s Hungarian minority, many of whom can vote in Hungary, endures systematic discrimination and disproportionate conscription.

Does all this seems familiar? Does this sound like they are leading up to invading Ukraine?

Mr. Orbán frames his government’s engagement in and funding for Zakarpattia as a matter of minority protection. The government of Ukraine, led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, sees the subject through the lens of national cohesion and puts emphasis on upholding Ukrainian as the official language. Hungarian media focuses on cultural and educational rights, while Ukrainian outlets tend to raise questions about the community’s patriotism.

Kind of sounds like Trump's rantings, doesn't it?

Budapest has funded a wide range of initiatives across Zakarpattia. Locals credit Mr. Orbán with supporting cultural organizations and churches, financing the renovation of schools and kindergartens, and backing media outlets and local football clubs. Several establishments said to receive funding from Hungary declined interviews.

Let's see during WWII Germany used the same argument when they went into Austria, Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies writes,

Iranian strikes conducted over the weekend and on Monday damaged structures that are part of or near communication and radar systems on at least seven U.S. military sites across the Middle East, according to a New York Times analysis of satellite imagery and verified videos.

Visuals show damage on or close to mechanisms used to track incoming ballistic missiles, satellite dishes and radomes, which are weatherproof covers that protect sensitive equipment used by forces to communicate over long distances.

U.S. military communication infrastructure is highly classified, making it difficult to determine which exact systems may have been affected. But the targeted locations appear to indicate Iran was aiming to disrupt the U.S. military’s ability to communicate and coordinate. Iran has attacked the U.S. military’s communication capacity as recently as last June, when it struck a Qatari base it hit again over the weekend.

Iran on Friday claimed to have significantly damaged a United States aircraft during a retaliatory missile and drone strike on an American air base in Saudi Arabia.

The strikes reportedly hit Prince Sultan Air Base, where the now-destroyed E‑3 AWACS command and control plane was stationed alongside other US military assets.

Newly released images, published by Iran's Press TV, show the body of the plane damaged, with only the head and tail intact. The attack reportedly involved six ballistic missiles and 29 drones.

At least 10 US personnel were wounded, with two reported in serious condition, Associated Press reported. The strike involved an Iranian missile and several drones targeting the base.

Multiple refuelling aircraft were also damaged in the attack, preliminary reports indicate.

On Friday Iran attacked Prince Sultan Air Base which included at least six ballistic missiles and 29 drones, according to The Associated Press. At least 15 American soldiers have been wounded and five of the injured US troops are in “serious condition”, AP reported, citing unnamed sources briefed on the strikes.

Iran, on the other hand, is using a trifecta of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles and one-way attack drones.

Drones have delivered volume, with cheap, mass-produced Shahed drones making it difficult for radar to spot due to their ability to fly at low altitude.

Simultaneously, faithful to his master’s desire for total domination and destruction, Hegseth announces future war crimes on live TV (“no quarter”) and encourages gratuitous cruelty: “We are punching them while they’re down.” The obscene focus on “lethality” is part of this shift towards war understood as inflicting maximum destruction and pain (as opposed to achieving strategic objectives – which the administration has of course been utterly incapable of articulating).

The reality of war itself recedes because the airwaves are filled with an endless series of entertaining images and empty talk. Hegseth, fond of laughably overwrought language and alliterations in particular (“warriors, not wokesters”), seems unable to articulate anything other than cliches (“unbreakable will”) or snippets of a Christian nationalism which flies in the face of the first amendment’s prohibiting an established religion: one cannot make it a litmus test of patriotism that citizens pray for the troops on bended knees and in the name of Jesus.

The point is not to equate the two men, but one cannot help but remember how Hannah Arendt, in her highly controversial book on the Eichmann trial, described the Nazi bureaucrat: someone utterly incapable of thinking, someone who instead just produced an endless stream of hollow phrases.

Will all this have an effect in legitimizing an illegal war? Hegseth has also created a fantasy world inside the Pentagon itself; instead of press conferences with critical questions and genuine answers, there is gentle back-and-forth between “the secretary of war” – a fantasy name, as Congress has not authorized changing the department’s name – and figures from the Epoch Times and LindellTV (the world according to “the MyPillow guy”).

Even with this extra layer of insulation from reality, Hegseth insisted that the press was not being positive enough about US attacks on Iran. Like with many Maga men performing puerile stunts for the manosphere, the fragile ego inside seems incapable of facing up to the reality of what has been unleashed so thoughtlessly.

The Houthis on Friday warned that if three lines are crossed by the U.S., Israel or other Middle East countries, they will join the Iran war and fight back.

The Yemen-based group backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps released five points, issued by the Yemeni Armed Forces, regarding the conflict. They include demands for a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Iran and a “cessation of aggression against Muslim countries in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and Iraq, and the lifting of the unjust siege on Yemen.”

The Houthis also warned they would enter the conflict if vessels tried to pass the Bab el-Mandeb strait. The strait is located 1,200 miles off the Strait of Hormuz and sits between Yemen and Djibouti.

President Trump designated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization shortly after he returned to the White House in January 2025.

Of course, they coined a word for that—“asymmetric warfare,” which means when a big guy beats up on a little guy.

I don’t know those fancy words. I see it as terrorism. I see it like what happened when we went into the Banana Republics. I see it like what happened when we put the Shah in Iran, and when we went into Afghanistan. Those all went well, didn’t they?

What initially appeared to be a single unauthorized drone sighting over Barksdale Air Force Base on March 9 was in fact the opening of a coordinated, week-long intrusion campaign involving multiple waves of sophisticated unmanned aircraft, according to a confidential internal military briefing document reviewed by ABC News.

The scope and nature of the incursions have raised serious national security concerns at one of the United States military’s most strategically important installations.

What Happened

A shelter-in-place order was issued at Barksdale on the morning of March 9 after a drone was detected over the airfield. The order was lifted later that day, and the incident was initially treated as an isolated event. The base’s security posture was temporarily elevated to Force Protection Condition Charlie — a designation indicating a potential threat to personnel or facilities.

But the intrusions did not stop there.

According to the confidential briefing document dated March 15, security forces at Barksdale observed multiple waves of 12 to 15 drones operating over sensitive areas of the installation between March 9 and March 15, including directly over the flight line. The drones displayed non-commercial signal characteristics, long-range control links, and resistance to electronic jamming. The briefing further noted the drones entered and exited the base in patterns that suggested deliberate attempts to avoid having their operators located, and that lights on the drones indicated the operators may have been intentionally testing the base’s security responses.

So let me get this straight... drones shut down an American air base on our soil and none of the nation news organizations covered it? WBRZ writes,

According to the confidential briefing document dated March 15, the drones came in waves and entered and exited the base in a way that may suggest attempts to “avoid the operator(s) being located.” Lights on the drones suggested the operators “may be testing security responses” at the base.

A test? Harbinger of things to come?

Trump keeps on saying that we won the war, but Iran says no? I have a very strong suspicion that Trump and Hegseth have poked a hornet's nest and they have no idea of things to come.

On Feb. 28, Israel vividly demonstrated the potential of such systems to be hacked and used against adversaries when Israel tracked down Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with the help of Tehran’s own street cameras - despite repeated warnings that Iran’s surveillance systems had been compromised, according to interviews and an Associated Press review of leaked data, public statements and news reports.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced two major changes to the military's chaplaincy corps on March 24, one of which will mean chaplains will no longer wear their rank insignia.

They will instead display their religious insignia while retaining their rank as officers. They "will be seen among the highest ranks because of their divine calling," Hegseth said in a video posted to X.

The change reflects Hegseth's wider effort to infuse the chaplaincy, and the military more broadly, with more explicitly religious sentiments.

A smaller, more streamlined system will support chaplains in "minister(ing) to service members in a way that aligns with that service member’s faith background and religious practice," said Hegseth, adding that the Pentagon is "not even close to being done" in taking steps toward "restoring the esteemed position of chaplain."

Stars and Stripes writes,

Since 2017, the Defense Department has recognized 221 groups as religious denominations or belief systems, ranging from mainstream to obscure Christian sects, Wiccans and atheists. That system was impractical and unusual, Hegseth said this week. Moving forward, the Pentagon will use 31 religious affiliation codes. “This brings the codes in line with its original purpose: giving chaplains clear, usable information, so they can minister to service members in a way that aligns with that service member’s faith background and religious practice,” he said.

Will only conservative religions will be covered? That liberal religions will be pushed aside?

 

So does that mean... a gay or lesbian servicemember comes it that they will try to make them straight? Or want about a woman who is having an abortion what will the chaplain more "explicitly religious sentiments" try to talk her out of having an abortion?

 Since becoming Defense secretary, Pete Hegseth has found no shortage of ways to bring his strand of conservative evangelicalism into the Pentagon.

He hosts monthly Christian worship services for employees. His department’s promotional videos have displayed Bible verses alongside military footage. In speeches and interviews, he often argues the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation and troops should embrace God, potentially risking the military’s secular mission and hard-won pluralism.

Hegseth has a history of defending the Crusades, the brutal medieval wars that pitted Christians against Muslims. In his 2020 book “American Crusade,” he wrote that those who enjoy Western civilization should “thank a crusader.” Two of his tattoos draw from crusader imagery: the Jerusalem Cross and the phrase “Deus Vult,” or “God wills it,” which Hegseth has called “the rallying cry of Christian knights as they marched to Jerusalem.”

I am afraid of him! I am afraid he is creating a military who doesn't answer to the Constitution but to the Bible!
