Saturday 9: Into the Groove

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Madonna begins this song by telling us, "I'm waiting." What's something you're waiting for today?
The “No Kings” rally to begin at 11:30

2) She sings that dancing gives her a feeling so good she hopes it will never end. What reliably lifts your spirits?
Hopefully today!

3) As a school girl in Michigan, Madonna was a good student but could be disruptive. Classmates recall her doing cartwheels in the halls between classes. Can you do a cartwheel?
HA! Are you kidding? I can’t get up off the floor without help!

4) It's not surprising that a girl from the Detroit area would love cars. Madonna's car collection is valued at more than $2 million. The one she seems to drive most often is a 2022 Cadillac Escalade ESV. Insurance industry data tells us Americans typically keep their cars for 8 years. How long have you had your current vehicle?
2017! And it is a keeper! Over 90,000 miles and the average mpg is 80.1! It is a plug in Prius.

5) She has referred to Nancy Sinatra as one of her idols, saying "These Boots Were Made for Walking" and its accompanying video impressed her when she was a little girl. What pop song brings back memories from your childhood?
The House of the Rising Sun. a few months ago I was coming back from a meeting at night as I drove down the main street in town the The House of the Rising Sun. came on the radio and it was like I was back in the late 60s again.

6) Madonna suffers from brontophobia, or the fear of thunder and lightening. Are you afraid of storms?
When a thunderstorm come by I usual have a front row seat on my porch sipping lemonade and snacking on chips & dip waiting the grand show to begin!

7) In 1985, when this song was popular, the Titanic wreckage was discovered. There have been at least a dozen movies about that ill-fated ship. Have you seen any of them?
Nope!
Tell you what I have visited is the Whydah Pirate Museum when it was in Provincetown (Now moved to West Yarmouth).

Where I have my cottage on Cape Cod the off the coast of Wellfleet (where I have my cottage) on April 26th, 1717, the pirate ship ran aground with the loot from 52 ships and a treasure haul worth 30,000 pounds sterling aboard! "Black Sam" Bellamy was coming to Wellfleet to reunite with his lover, Maria Hallett, also known as the “Witch of Wellfleet.” In a violent nor'easter (Like the four day nor’easter we had over Indigenous Peoples' Weekend) off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Bellamy died in the wreck at the age of 28.

8) Also in 1985, Bruce Willis became a star with a hit show about a detective agency. Can you name it? (Extra non-existent points if you can recall the agency's name.)
 Oh… Oh… It is on the tip of my tongue… its… its…

9) Random question: Describe your perfect ice cream sundae.
Well first the ice creams…
One scoop each: Moose Tracks, Butter Pecan, & Rum Raisin!
Chopped nuts!
Hot fudge drizzled over everything!
A Maraschino cherry on each scoop!
A small sprinkle of sea salt!
Topped with whipped cream!

Today’s “No Kings”

I will be at the protest in Provincetown. Where will you be?

  1. I’m not going to the rally but will be with you in spirit.

Those 18th century pirates were fascinating. When we were in Colonial Williamsburg last month we attended a reenactment of a trial, the defendant was accused of piracy — part of Blackbeard’s crew.

  2. You picked a fancy sundae! Yum!
I try not to get on the floor anymore. I have been having my little do puzzles on my horseshoe table at school so I can teach them how to do puzzles, but I really loved sitting on the floor with them. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  6. Your sundae sounds so sweet! I support those who exercised their right to a peaceful protest. I have stayed indoors while I recover from my face surgery. I see my doctor on Wed.
