BBC NewsBy Ione WellsUS forces have killed four people in an attack on a boat off the coast of Venezuela that was allegedly trafficking drugs, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth says."The strike was conducted in international waters just off the coast of Venezuela while the vessel was transporting substantial amounts of narcotics - headed to America to poison our people," Hegseth wrote in a post on X.It is the latest in a number of recent deadly strikes that the US has carried out on boats in international waters it says are involved in "narco-trafficking".The strikes have attracted condemnation in countries including Venezuela and Colombia, with some international lawyers describing the strikes as a breach of international law.
Wham Bam! What power to be able to sit in an overstuffed chair a continent away and watch four people get killed! Like some TV drama.
Hegseth said the attack took place in the US Southern Command's area of responsibility, which covers most of South America and the Caribbean."Our intelligence, without a doubt, confirmed that this vessel was trafficking narcotics, the people onboard were narco-terrorists, and they were operating on a known narco-trafficking transit route," Hegseth said about Friday's attack.
Um... unfortunately we will never know because you wouldn't give them a trial. You were judge, juror, and executioner. However, here is something you should think about...
Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has been charged with crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC).The 80-year-old is accused of being criminally responsible for dozens of murders that allegedly took place as part of his so-called war on drugs, during which thousands of small-time drug dealers, users and others were killed without trial. The ICC's charge sheet, which includes several redactions, dates from July but was only made public on Monday.ICC deputy prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang said Duterte was an "indirect co-perpetrator" in the killings, which the court alleges were carried out by others, including police. The first count laid against Mr Duterte concerns his alleged involvement in the killings of 19 people in Davao City between 2013 and 2016 while he was mayor there. The other two charges relate to times when he was serving as president of the Philippines, between 2016 and 2022, and launched his so-called war on drugs. The second count relates to the murders of 14 "high-value targets" across the country, while the third relates to the murder and attempted murder of 45 people in village clearance operations.
Hey, Donald! Duterte needs some nice company.
