Flocks of tourists descend upon New England for the foliage—the reds and yellows. But not to Cape Cod. You would never know it is fall with all the pine barrens; the oaks just dry up and turn brown.
Dried brown leaves litter the trails along with dried pine needles, making the classic rustling sound as you walk. Then we have the invasive species—the black locust exists in scattered patches across the Cape and whose leaves only turn yellowish brown.
The crisp, dry air makes it ideal for sitting around a firepit outside, reading with no biting insects!
But next weekend, the craziness is back for the three-day weekend, though nowhere near the summer levels. The three-day Indigenous Peoples' Weekend brings an inrush. The following weekend is Wellfleet's Oyster Fest!
Then, two weeks after that, it's time to pack everything up and get ready to close it up for the winter and the elections.
