How Stupid!

I never even heard of the song... now I have.
Students have been practicing instrumental piece all year

Board Vice President Sam Ouweneel said the decision to pull the music six days before the concert reflects the platform board members campaigned on.

“This is a perfect example of what everyone here ran on, which was ending indoctrination and radical curriculum,” Ouweneel said.

Board member Christina DeGrave said political violence should not be celebrated through music or song.

Camila Siebenlist, seventh grader who plays the trombone, asked the school board to reconsider.

“I don’t think you guys understand how hard it is to listen to you guys not accept them, because I know it’s like to not be accepted,” Camila said.

Thomas dedicated the work to transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson, a key figure in the 1969 Stonewall Uprising against police raids in New York City.  The uprising is considered a milestone in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement and its site is recognized with a national monument.
But because it is about LGBTQ+ history it got axed!
“The purpose behind studying Mother of a Revolution is not to provoke controversy, but to deepen students’ understanding of how music reflects the diverse experiences of humanity,” LaDew wrote. “Engaging with this piece helps foster empathy, cultural awareness, and respect for the stories and struggles that shape our shared history.”
One citizen said this about the Board little narrow minds...
Watertown resident David Mazzie played “A Mother of A Revolution!” while speaking to the board.

“I’m sorry that you get your collective panties in a bunch because you are offended by this,” Mazzie said. “I’m sorry that our idea of what’s fair and what’s right only includes the little bubbles that you live in.”
I never even knew about this but thanks to the Watertown school board now I do!

I Was All Alone...

... I used to feel like I was the only one who felt the way I did. Then, this song came on the radio one Saturday morning while I was washing my car for a date.
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world, except for Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
At the time, whenever I encountered the word "transsexual," I researched it, but what I found never seemed to apply to me. No way could I be trans—the definitions back then only used words like "pervert" and "sexual deviant."

Then I heard about Lola, and my world changed.

Recently, however, the lens has shifted. The Guardian reported this week (March 23, 2026) that,
The band’s co-founder responded to the US musician’s comments, defending the song and saying they are ‘not transphobic’

The Kinks co-founder and guitarist Dave Davies hit back at Moby after the US electronic musician said that he could no longer listen to the band’s 1970 hit Lola on the grounds that he found it “gross and transphobic”.

Moby told the Guardian Saturday magazine’s Honest Playlist feature that he was repulsed by the song after it came up on a Spotify playlist. “I like their early music, but I was really taken aback at how unevolved the lyrics are,” he said.

The song details a young man in a nightclub falling for a figure who “walked like a woman but talked like a man”. It concludes: “Girls will be boys and boys will be girls / It’s a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world / Except for Lola.”

Davies responded on X: “I am highly insulted that Moby would accuse my brother” – Kinks songwriter Ray Davies – “of being ‘unevolved’ or transphobic in any way.” In another post, he continued: “I don’t wanna show the guy up, but Moby should be careful what he says.”
It’s a strange conflict of eras. As Bob Dylan wrote, "The Times They Are A-Changin'." They were changing in the seventies, and they are still changing today—and so is our vocabulary. Back then, the community was amazed that a song like "Lola" would even be played on the radio. It was avant-garde; it broke the ice. As punk icon Jayne County once wrote,
In the letter, County described herself as “thrilled and amazed” that the Kinks would write such a song, and wondered if other listeners had clocked its subject. “Lola will always be one of those songs that for me ‘broke the ice’ so to speak! A song that breaks down barriers and brings a used to be, hush, hush subject to the forefront and makes it sound perfectly natural to be singing a song about a ‘girl’ named Lola!”

She said that the song had propelled the Kinks into “the modern world. The REAL world! A world full of all kinds of people! Bisexual, gay, trans, not just a world full of straight heterosexuals!”

The LGBTQ+ subject matter of Lola was not without precedent for the Kinks. In 1965, their song See My Friends centred on a man unsure of his sexual orientation. Dave Davies also wrote in his 1996 autobiography Kink about having had affairs with musician Long John Baldry and producer Michael Aldred.
And sometime our lens change color!

Gag Me With A Spoon!

Okay... all you Super Bowl fans. This is your warning, MAGA spent millions on ads during the game!
The same crowd that wants to keep politics out of sports has purchased a multimillion-dollar commercial spot to air during the Super Bowl.

Those hoping to escape the daily chaos of MAGA 2.0 during the Super Bowl may want to take a bathroom break after the National Anthem.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent boasted on Wednesday about the pricey ad spot purchased to tout “Trump accounts,” set to air just after pop singer Charlie Puth performs the “Star-Spangled Banner” this coming Sunday.

Bessent, 63, said he anticipates a “flood of sign-ups” as a result of the commercial airing in full on Feb. 8.

“I would tell everyone to look for the commercial right after the national anthem at the Super Bowl this weekend,” he testified to the House Financial Services Committee. “I think we are prepared for a flood of sign-ups, and then they will go live on July 5.”

The Treasury Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Beast’s request for comment.

Thirty-second advertisements in prime spots cost $10 million for this year’s Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California, NBC has revealed. The average cost for standard spots are $8 million, and pre-game broadcast spots run at about $7 million, according to the Sports Business Journal.

Semafor reported in January that a pro-Trump group would be footing the bill for the ad.
So enjoy the game but don't gag over the MAGA commercials!

Then we have the racist, xenophobic halftime show!
The conservative organization first announced its plans for a halftime show alternative following right-wing backlash to Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny.

Kid Rock is set to headline Turning Point USA’s MAGA-friendly alternative “All-American” Super Bowl halftime show, the organization announced on Monday.

TPUSA — the organization co-founded by the assassinated right-wing political figure Charlie Kirk — had first announced its plans for a halftime show of its own last fall, following conservative backlash over the selection of Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny to headline this year’s event.

“We’re approaching this show like David and Goliath,” Kid Rock said in a statement of the upcoming show. “Competing with the pro football machine and a global pop superstar is almost impossible … or is it?”

[...]

Aside from Kid Rock, a vocal Trump ally, the lineup also includes musicians Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett. The show will air on TPUSA’s socials, as well as Daily Wire+, Real America’s Voice, TBN, CHARGE!, The National News Desk, NTD.com and OAN News.

“The All-American Halftime Show is an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no agenda other than to celebrate faith, family and freedom,” Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said in a statement.
Not one of them have won any Grammys!

The simple fact is that they are having an alternative halftime show because Bad Bunny is Latino and sings in Spanish. Never mind that he just made history by winning Album of the Year at the 2026 Grammys—his 6th win total—that clearly doesn't matter to the MAGA crowd. He has over 100 Latin Gold/Platinum records and a massive global reach! But none of that matters because they have has-been Kid Rock, an artist who hasn't had a major hit in nearly 20 years and has zero Grammy wins to his name. To me it seems like is was for Trump's patronage he would be a nobody.
