NPR NewsBy Kate BartlettOctober 10, 2025Venezuela's opposition leader María Corina Machado has won this year's Nobel Peace Prize. In an announcement on Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said Machado's tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela is "one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America in recent times."Machado has been one of the staunchest critics of the powerful United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) since it first came to power in the late 1990s.
And he lost to a left-wing socialist!!!!! The New Republic wrote...
It’s no secret that Trump has pined for the international honor: The U.S. president phoned Norway’s Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg “out of the blue” back in July to inquire about the possibility of acquiring the prize, using tariffs as a cover for their discussion.Trump has complained for years that his name has not yet been added to the ranks of prize recipients, who span some of the greatest figures of the last century, including Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Theresa, and Malala Yousafzai.
Me! Me! Me! It would have looked good in all the golden glitter in Mar-A-Lago!

The Guardian wrote that,
Following Friday’s announcement that the Venezuelan opposition politician María Corina Machado had been awarded the prize, senior aides to the US president attacked the Norwegian committee as politicised while Norway braced itself for a potential diplomatic response from the White House.“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace,” wrote Steven Cheung, a Trump aide and the White House’s director of communications.Trump will “continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives”, he wrote. “He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.”Trump’s special envoy, Richard Grenell – who has been leading economic negotiations with Nicolás Maduro’s administration – also voiced dissatisfaction, tweeting: “The Nobel Prize died years ago.”Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, told Fox News: “[Trump] deserves it more than anyone alive on this planet right now … But we know these people who establish who wins the Nobel peace prize hate Donald Trump – they suffer from ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’. And in our hearts he will be winning the Nobel peace prize … and I hope he wins it in the future.”
They really, really believe he deserved it!
Let's look at the real reason Trump didn't win...
- His "America First" policies and withdrawal from international agreements, which run counter to the prize's ideals of international cooperation and fraternity.
- His public lobbying for the award, which is unusual and generally frowned upon by the committee.
- The fact that many of his high-profile nominations came after the February deadline for the 2025 prize.
- Dispute over the actual impact and resolution of conflicts he has claimed to end.
But everyone knows that the whole world is against Trump... it is a conspiracy against him!
