Saturday 9: Summer in the City

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

This has been a crazy week, to describe it in one word… Plumber.
I had an Instant Hot Water heater out in this spring (And it works like a champ!) however it developed a leak. So for the last week I have been mobbing up water from the slow leak. Many call, emails, texts to him has only gotten lip service. He has been to the cottage and pronounced that it from the pipes sweating on not a leak. He stopped by a couple of days and left off some pipe insulation. He was supposed to come yesterday morning… no show. He said he was coming out this morning. Hmm… we shall see.
The leak has already caused several thousands of dollars in damage to the kitchen floor.

What I am doing is:
All my correspondence between us I have archived… included emails and texts along with a log of phone calls between.
Researched in how to file a complaint against a trade person in Massachusetts.
Researched in how to file in Massachusetts in small claims court.

Enough of my problems… Lets play Saturday 9!

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Now that Labor Day has passed and kids have returned to school, summer is unofficially over. Looking back, share a highlight from Summer 2024.
I was mostly up at the cottage all summer, graduation parties in July, doctor’s appointment s in August.

2) Though this week's song is about summer, it was recorded in the spring, March to be exact. What's your favorite season?
Fall, I like the change of the season and foliage, the nip in the air, but most of all no mosquitoes!

3) Lovin' Spoonful lead singer John Sebastian sings that he's going to meet his lover on the rooftop. When were you last on the roof of your building?
Um… over 30 years ago when I was building the house. It is a Cape and the roof is at a 45 degree angle.

4) The lyrics refer to sidewalks that are "hotter than a match head." What's the last thing you lit with a match?
Um… um… this is another one of those “Um…” when I smoked pot at a party in July.

5) The Lovin' Spoonful was founded by John B. Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky. When the band broke up, Zal opened a restaurant. Tell us about the restaurant you most recently dined at.
Van Rensselaer’s in Wellfleet.
It is not in Provincetown. That is a big plus… no parking hassles.
It is in town a couple of miles away with a big parking lot.
The owners are a nice friendly couple from town.

I went there with some friends from Long Island and I had Scallops… local scallops fresh that morning.
Taste of the Mediterranean:
shaved prosciutto, garlic, feta, basil, fire roasted red peppers, medley of imported olives, beurre blanc, linguine. I was going to order it again as take-out tomorrow but instead of scallops I’ll have it with chicken.

6) John went on to have a solo career. His biggest hit was "Welcome Back," the theme to a popular 70's sitcom. The first line: "Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out ...". Do you recall what show used "Welcome Back" as its theme?
OOOOOOHHHHH! OOOOOOHHHHH! OOOOOOHHHHH! I know! “Welcome Back, Kotter”

7) In 1964, when "Summer in the City" was popular, Americans were tuned in to Bewitched. The show centered around Samantha, a witch married to a mortal. Among her supernatural powers were flight, time travel and telekinesis (being able to move objects by twitching her nose). If you could have one of those powers, which would you choose?
Time Travel as long as I could bring a bag of gold with me.

8) In 1964, AJ Foyt earned the second of his four Indy 500 victories. Do you watch car racing?
Well… it is another one of my conditional answers. I don’t like roundy round racing, I like watch road racing like Formula I.

9) Random question: Is your big toe your longest toe?
Hey wait a minute… you mean you can see your toes?
Only on my right foot. And does that create problems in buying shoes, my right foot is one size larger than my left foot. So that means buying shows that on my left foot is one size too big or if I buy shoes that fit my left foot then my big toe is cramped.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

Update: 3:45PM

The plumber came and went he found a bad crimp on the water line to the outdoor shower. And he even took the analog TV and old microwave to the dump for me.

  2. Your insurance should cover the water damage. Take pictures, too. I hope you get that fixed.
