Other than the media reporting both targeted legislators were Democrats, I have not read of any political stances orated by anyone that would have caused the gunman to act. Of concern is both lived only eight miles apart in two different jurisdictions.

Chief Mark Bruley of the Brooklyn Park, Minn., police said the gunman’s vehicle contained a manifesto and a target list with names of individuals, including the two lawmakers who were shot."

I don't know about you but this sure does sound like it was politically motivates!
I believe it was politically motivated.
