We used to joke that she was my older sister, we were born the same year, she was born in the spring, I was born in the fall. She taught me words I never knew.
She brought us together again.
I knew her way back to the turn of the century, she was involved deeply with the trans community and the LGBTQ+ whom she care for. I worked alongside of her at the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective where I volunteered as their trans expert. She was a straight cis-gender nurse who loved the community with an open heart.
She brought us together again.
Today the community came together to honor her passing.
The room was filled with old friends. Friends I haven’t seen in decades. Friends I that I’ve seen last week.
Friends who have aged with me, friends that I have know since before the turn of the century, friends that I have know from support groups.
She brought us together again to remember her.
She brought us together again to share the journey with her.
Thank you Donna.
Thank you for this posting. I was planning on attending the memorial today but my knees were so swollen that I could hardly get around. I would have had to take 2 buses and then a long walk down from Main Street to MCC. Since I do not drive, it would have been impossible to come and then go back home. So I fondly remember Donna here at home sitting on my porch and remembering her great advice at the collective and the fun times.
