A Pipe Dream

You have to wonder what Trump has been smoking. His next hair brain scheme is to build what the Israelis have built... an Iron Dome. The little country of Israelis does not have much to protect unlike the U.S.

Warheads raining down from beyond the Earth's atmosphere. Faster-than-sound cruise missiles striking US infrastructure. Sky-high nuclear blasts.

These are just some of the nightmarish scenarios that experts warn could come true if the US's dated and limited defence systems were overwhelmed in a future high-tech attack.

Even a single, relatively small nuclear detonation hundreds of miles above the heads of Americans would create an electromagnetic pulse - or EMP - that would have apocalyptic results. Planes would fall out of the sky across the country. Everything from handheld electronics and medical devices to water systems would be rendered completely useless.

"We wouldn't be going back 100 years," said William Fortschen, an author and weapons researcher at Montreat College in North Carolina. "We'd lose it all, and we don't know how to rebuild it. It would be the equivalent of us going back 1,000 years and having to start from scratch."

In response to these hypothetical - but experts say quite possible - threats, US President Donald Trump has set his eyes on a "next generation" missile shield: the Golden Dome.

But while many experts agree that building such a system is necessary, its high cost and logistical complexity will make Trump's mission to bolster America's missile defences extremely challenging.
And it is not feasible!
The president would need to rely on Ottawa to track Chinese and Russian missiles that could come at the U.S. from over the horizon.

President Donald Trump left out a key detail this week when he outlined his plans for a massive missile and air defense shield over the continent: He can’t build it without Canada.

And it’s not clear America’s northern neighbor wants in.

Canada would need to play a pivotal role in Trump’s signature, potentially $500 billion effort to build the so-called Golden Dome, according to U.S. officials and experts, with Ottawa providing radars and airspace needed to track incoming missiles in the Arctic.

And while Trump insists the country wants to participate, Canadian leaders appear more tepid.
If they say no, will Trump invade them and make them the 51st state? Then we have this little problem according to Science News,
“Intercepting even a single, nuclear-armed intercontinental-range ballistic missile or its warheads … is extremely challenging,” physicist Frederick Lamb of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, chair of the group that produced the report, said at an APS meeting in Anaheim, Calif. in March. “The ability of any missile defense system to do this reliably has not been demonstrated.”

And as countries come up with new types of weapons that could skirt defenses, the situation is getting even more challenging. Golden Dome aims to defend against not just ICBMs, but also hypersonic weapons, advanced cruise missiles and more. And Golden Dome would take missile defense to space. In addition to ground-based systems, Golden Dome would use potentially thousands of defensive weapons called interceptors orbiting Earth, poised to neutralize attacks.

Hitting a bullet with a bullet
ICBMs are a formidable target. An ICBM launches in a giant arc that sends the weapon it carries careening through space, traversing more than 5,000 kilometers to reach its target. The challenge of intercepting them has been compared to hitting a bullet with a bullet. But this understates the problem: At around 25,000 kilometers per hour, ICBMs speeds are about seven times that of a bullet. What’s more, they’re generally armed with nuclear warheads, each capable of killing a million people, rather than one.
So once again it is Trump's pipe dream to rally the masses!

I was alive in the 1950s and Nike, our iron dome of the 50s and 60s. My father was a retired Army officer and he knew some people who got us a tour of the bases that were scattered all around. There was military housing for the officers off of Rocky Hill Ave, in New Britain, if you know where to look you can spot the housing. With my father and brother we go a tour of the radar site on top of hill in Cromwell where there are condos now and then we went to see the missiles! They had one raised out of the launch pit and were working on it, it was just off Mile Rd in Middletown. You can still see the military style buildings there.

I tell you this because those Nike bases were there to stop Soviet bomber, not hypersonic cruses missiles launched from submarines a couple of hundred miles off the coast! Back then the rumor had it that the Nike bases were to protect Pratt & Whitney and the other bases were around New London because of the subs there. Everyone else could get fried by the nukes.

Trump's Chrome Dome ops... I meant Golden Dome, as the Science News article stated it will only protect from ballistic missiles, not from sub launched missiles!

Amazing really. Folks all across amerikkka support war, build for war, take part in war and then boo hoo that a missile may get though their spacious skies and doom them back a thousand years. All I can say is you should have listened to some of the great pacifists and anti-war folks, but you continued in your sinful ways, condemning others and the planet earth to your horrors. Now, face it, as you step by step help to bury the planet and all that is on it, to the cheers of the Christian Nationalists waiting for Jesus to come back. What was that old saying about the chickens coming home to roost?
