A blog of a straight Christian that I follow asked the question Why is simple decency so impossible these days? He wrote about the verbal of attack of Congresswoman McBride by Congressman Keith Self and asks the question... "Why is simple decency so impossible these days?"
Look what a student down in Alabama to a autistic student who liked a pair of rainbow glasses, CBS Sunday Morning wrote...
Sometimes, wearing rainbow colors isn't about orientation or politicization. Sometimes, a rainbow is just a rainbow, such as when 10-year-old Hunter Blankenship of Clanton, Alabama, picked out his rainbow-colored glasses. This car-loving, autistic boy wasn't making a statement, he just loved the look — until the day he didn't.A few months ago, Hunter was outside playing when an older child teased him about his glasses. The bully called Hunter a homophobic slur and then told Hunter he should just kill himself."All of a sudden, he stormed off and he's holding a knife," Hunter's mother, Meghan Fancher, recalls. "And I was like, 'No, what are you doing?' And he said, 'I'm going to kill myself.'"
The piece is so heart warm about what the town did for him. But I want to ask the question, why did the bully fell empower to say those homophobic words? Think about what the Republicans are doing to our children, they are grooming them to become bigots,
“There are only two opinions on this sign: Everyone is welcome here, or not everyone is welcome here,” argues Sarah Inama, a sixth-grade history teacher.NBC NewsBy Alex PortéeMarch 15, 2025An Idaho teacher is in a standoff with her own school district after officials ordered her to remove classroom signs, including one that reads, “Everyone is welcome here.”Sarah Inama, a sixth-grade history teacher at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Meridian, Idaho, says she won’t comply with the order, arguing that the message is a fundamental part to ensuring a positive learning environment for her students.Inama, who has taught at the school for five years, says her commitment to inclusivity isn’t about politics. It’s about her passion for education and students.[...]Five years ago, when she first put up the two signs, it was to make sure students knew they were in an open and welcoming space. Now, she says she is risking her job in the name of those values.
Have we reached a place in our country where the "Thought Police" like in the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four is coming true? Where treating people equally is now a crime? Where wearing rainbow glasses because you like rainbows is grounds for bullying?
