It all depends upon if the Trump craziness reach them... up in Vermont all Republicans voted FOR a trans bill!
It hasn't been covered by the news but I found the legislative website and the bill and it passed unanimously. I first found out about the resolution from a Facebook post so I researched it to find out if it was true... and it was.

Funny how there is zero media about this! You would think that this would have been front page news for all the media outlets. I asked Perplexity AI about the bill...
Why is lack of coverage on the bill?J.R.S.15 is a joint resolution introduced in the Vermont legislature that expresses strong support for the state's transgender and non-binary community. The resolution declares Vermont's commitment to fighting discrimination and treating all citizens with respect and dignity. This resolution comes in response to recent federal actions, including an executive order signed by President Trump that recognizes only two unchangeable sexes and aims to rework federal funding and policies accordingly. In contrast, Vermont officials have pledged to continue enforcing local laws that protect people from discrimination based on gender identity. The Vermont Human Rights Commission has reaffirmed that treating students differently because of their gender identity is illegal under state law. The state defines gender identity as self-determined and protected, regardless of sex assigned at birth.Vermont's Attorney General's Office and Human Rights Commission have jointly stated their commitment to enforcing laws protecting Vermonters against discrimination based on gender identity in areas such as employment, housing, and public accommodations. They emphasize that Vermont aims to be a safe and supportive place for non-binary and transgender people, regardless of changes in federal policy. This resolution aligns with Vermont's longstanding leadership in protecting and advancing LGBTQIA+ rights, reflecting the state's motto of "freedom and unity.
The national news outlets need to run stories of the adverse effects of anti-trans legislation and hate speech as it relates to those affected. I live in a totally supportive state when it comes to all peoples and it is a rare occurrence to read of any issue of a hateful nature. The only hate my neighbors report comes from pulpits of some churches.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but even if some Republicans do an occasional good thing, they're still bad in my eyes. If you identify as a Republican, even if you claim to be a moderate, you are still tying yourself to all the beliefs of that party - anti-abortion policies, immigration, LGBTQ issues (especially trans rights). If you tell me that you don't agree with those party positions, then why are you in that party?
