A federal judge has stopped US President Donald Trump from using a 227-year-old law meant to protect the US during wartime to carry out mass deportations of Venezuelans.

Trump proclaimed on Saturday that immigrants belonging to the Venezuelan crime gang Tren de Aragua were "conducting irregular warfare" against the US and that he would deport them under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

But US District Judge James Boasberg that same evening ordered a halt to deportations covered by the proclamation lasting for 14 days, according to media reports.

Judge Boasberg told a hearing he had heard planes with deportees were taking off and ordered them turned back, the Washington Post reported.

The law allows the US to detain and remove people threatening the country's safety during wartime, without having to follow due process. It was last invoked to intern people of Japanese descent during World War Two.
But this morning...

The Trump administration has transferred hundreds of immigrants to El Salvador despite a federal judge’s order temporarily barring the deportations under an 18th century wartime declaration targeting Venezuelan gang members, officials said Sunday. Flights were in the air at the time of the ruling.

U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg issued an order Saturday evening blocking the deportations but lawyers told him there were already two planes with migrants in the air — one headed for El Salvador, the other for Honduras. Boasberg verbally ordered the planes be turned around, but they apparently were not and he did not include the directive in his written order.

“Oopsie…Too late,” Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, a Trump ally who agreed to house about 300 migrants for a year at a cost of $6 million in his country’s prisons, wrote on the social media site X above an article about Boasberg’s ruling. That post was recirculated by White House communications director Steven Cheung.
However, Trump's administration just ignored the court! And shipped out the detainees.
“This morning, we asked the government to assure the Court that its order was not violated and are waiting to hear, as well as trying to do our own investigation,” ACLU’s lead lawyer, Lee Gelernt, said in a statement Sunday.
White House vows to fight ruling that requires government reinstate fired probationary workers

The White House on Friday vowed to appeal the federal court rulings that required the Trump administration to reinstate probationary government employees who judges said were fired unlawfully at several agencies.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters the injunction was “entirely unconstitutional” and said the administration would respond aggressively.

“Fighting back by appealing. Fighting back by using the full weight of the White House’s counsels’ office,” Leavitt said.

Federal judges in both Maryland and Northern California district courts issued orders Thursday halting the mass dismissals.
Even I know about the "System of Checks and Balances" Either she is the most stupid press secretary or the White House has decided to ignore the courts because they know the Congress will do nothing. Back in 1974, the House Judiciary Committee approved Article III of impeachment, charging Nixon with contempt of Congress for defying eight committee subpoenas issued during April, May, and June 1974, somehow I don't think that this Congress will do anything like that.

You know darn well that nothing will happened from Trump ordering the deportation over the judges ruling. The Republicans in Congress are spineless. What can the courts do? Refer it to the Justice Department that Trump loaded up with his cronies?

Reading the comments on Yahoo the Trump supports all called them criminals... but they were never arrested for a crime. They were never convicted of a crime. There was no proof that these were ever a member of a gang. They might very well be criminal gang members but they deserved their day in court!
