There have been two attacks on trans people!
I think it will be hard to prove a Bias Crime* since this looks like a robbery of a trans person, none of the articles that I read said the perpetrator never uttered anything about her being trans.

*Bias Crimes instead of Hate Crimes, what’s the difference? They are both crimes where the crime was motivated by prejudice against specific groups.
Simplely people have avoided convictions by saying that they didn’t hate the person, they just don’t like the protected class in question. So by using bias instead of hate, they get more convictions.
Also note that a threat or actual violence is needed for it to be a Bias Crime otherwise it is a Bias Incident and not a crime. Because of the First Amendment they can call us all the names in the book but as soon as they say they are going to harm or violence then it becomes a crime.
Here in Connecticut a bunch of UConn students were making racist comments and were arrested but found not-guilty of a bias crime.
For us the target of their hate it is of little difference between threats and words, but the courts see it differently.

January 3, 2025A teen is recovering after being stabbed while she was getting off a METRO bus and her attorney is now hoping to see the charges against the man accused in the stabbing upgraded to a hate crime.
Joseph Fuerborn is in custody and is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon while 18-year-old high school student Rue is recovering after being stabbed three times, one of which punctured her lungs.
The two had been riding METRO bus in Houston, Texas, and both exited the bus at the same stop at around 8:40 p.m. on December 22. According to Rue’s lawyer, Kevin Murray, Rue let Fuerborn borrow her phone, but when he finished the call, he refused to give it back to her, and instead stabbed her. One of the stabs punctured Rue’s lungs.

Murray said he doesn’t believe the current charge against Fuerborn is sufficient, given how serious the injuries to Rue were. He said he hopes to see additional charges, including hate crime enhancements, filed against Fuerborn.
