You All Probably Have Heard!

The shooter who gunned down three children and three staff members at a Nashville Christian school on Monday was a former student who carefully planned the attack with detailed maps and surveillance, police said.

“We have some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this date, the actual incident,” Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake told reporters hours after the shooting at The Covenant School. “We have a map drawn out of how this was all going to take place.”

The shooter, Audrey Hale, 28, of Nashville, identified as transgender and had no previous criminal record, according to the chief.

You know damn well that Fox News will condemn all of us. Dozens and dozens of mass murders by white supremacists, at the beginning of March there were over 100 mass shootings and one by a trans person and the conservatives will go ballistic.

Forbes wrote,

Six people, including three children were killed at a Nashville elementary school Monday when a 28-year-old alleged shooter opened fire at the private Christian school, marking a stark contrast to almost all mass shootings in recent years—this time, the alleged assailant was a woman.

[…]

Before Monday’s shooting, there had only been four women assailants in 172 mass shootings in the U.S., as documented by The Violence Project since 1966, which documents shootings involving at least four fatalities, not including the shooter.

An article on ABC News reported that,

A police spokesperson told ABC News that Hale was assigned female at birth, and pointed to a social media account linked to Hale that included use of the pronouns he/him.

The article goes on to say,

A neighbor of the family told ABC News that Audrey Hale lived at the family's home with Hale's parents, who the neighbor described as "very nice" and "very religious."

You know the conservatives will only see “trans” and not that she is a man.

Violence is never justified.

  1. A tragedy as are all such events. I think, however, it is reasonable to ask whether and to what extent the media (all media) condemned all of those who are not us, and to what extent that media pressure influenced this shooter to act. If we (all of us) are ever going to have a temperate discussion and exchange of views on any subject let alone the sensitive topic of gender and expression, then we must recognize and account for the influence of media and the tendency of the media to inflame passions, before as well as after tragic events. A functioning society requires concessions by all, a bit of temperance and attaching value to a functioning society for all.

  2. We need to quit calling people names. Like calling people white supremacists. Not all whites are those types. Or calling republicans fascists or evil. Not all are those types. Until we stop, they won’t stop. Not all republicans are anti trans.

Will there ever come the time when we can call people out for the views they hold and the things they do. When Toni Morrison wrote about the steps that a society takes to what is referred to as the Final Solution she explained that in America today we are in the first step that of legal fascism. That is writing laws targeting people and against people. No not all republicans are fascist but if they vote for those who have similar ideas to fascism then what do we call them? The poet Roque Dalton once stated, Always remember that the least fascist is still a fascist." I would have to take that to mean that if the man down the streets votes for those who are passing laws against the Trans community, then I would feel justified in calling him out. It does boil down to those who are "not" anti trans or a white supremacist must voice it loud and clear and stand out on the track.

  3. I do not watch Fox News, so I have not seen much discussion concerning how "trans" will work into the analysis. Even the sites with"Join the Conversation" to not seem to be taking comments. Again, there will an analysis of where the guns were purchased and from I can derived from the person's lack of criminal history my bet is the weapons were purchased legally. If this school was targeted, what was the other school? I am curious as to whether all the anti-trans rhetoric coming from certain segments of the "Christian" community played a role in this person acting in this manner. On the surface not too many women are owners of multiple assault style weapons (personal observation). Was this woman-born person acting out in a male-role when it comes to firearms? Even in my state which is considered "liberal" there is a lot of anti-trans rhetoric coming from the pulpit. How much of that will be swept under the rug when it comes to figuring out why this tragedy occurred.

  4. The right wing has been licking its chops when they learned the shooter was FtM. Never mind the need for reasonable gun laws when you can blame "groomers". There is no hope for some people
