Saturday 9: Treat You Better

Crazy Sam’s Saturday 9: Treat You Better (2016)

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

This song was chosen because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please share this information about The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Let's spread the word that there's help out there.

1) In this song, a young man advises his neighbor to stop wasting her time with a guy who makes her cry. What is something you regret wasting time on? (It doesn't have to be a romance.)
Um… This is a hard one; I have to think about it for a while

Still thinking...

It is hard because I don't usually rush into things, I overthink them first and that tends to cut down on regrets.

2) Much of this video takes place in a very sparely-decorated apartment. Because Shawn Mendes and the girl he’s singing to both appear young, it’s easy to assume they are both in their first apartments. Tell us about the first place you ever rented.
I never rented a place.
I was going to write that but then I remember in college I stayed in a two family house on Avenue A in in the heart of Rochester NY.
We had the bottom floor of a two family house; there were seven of us staying in the first floor apartment two women, five men, and one cat. To put it nicely it was very interesting living in the city.
They couple across the street I think the police had their address on speed dial, they were there once or twice a week for domestic disputes. The paperboy whenever he got a different person at the door said we owed for the paper, when we finally compared notes we found out that we paid multiple times a week for the same week. We figured we were paying for his deadbeats.
We were just down the street from the Genesee Brewery and when they cleaned out their vats... phew!
And of course all day long police cars and fire trucks with their sirens on.

3) It's clear he can hear his neighbors' conversations and arguments through the walls. Are your neighbors quiet? Do you consider yourself a quiet neighbor?
Yes, most definitely.

4) This song received a lot of attention and airplay because it was used in a Southwest Airline commercial. When you last visited an airport, were you traveling yourself or meeting someone?
Traveling myself, it was for work (which means it was over 12 years ago).
You can read a good story about one of my trips here.

5) This week's artist, Shawn Mendes, was a serious skateboarder during his high school years. Sam has never even set foot on a skateboard. How about you?
Are you kidding? At my age.
And when I was in high school they weren’t even invented yet.

6) Shawn is happy eating cold cereal with milk for every meal -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. He prefers cereal with almonds in it. What about you? Do you have a favorite cereal?
Generic Cheerios with some fruit or nuts.
Hot cereal is Cream of Wheat with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and raisins.

7) He says he started eating cereal beyond breakfast because it's convenient, and it helps him avoid "junk food" when he's in a hurry. Do you often order your food "to go?"
No, but I did find a place that I might try, they make homemade dinners to go.

8) In 2016, when this song was popular, a German shorthaired pointer named CJ won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show. Is there a dog who holds a special place in your heart?
No, but last Sunday at a house concert their two little poodles made my lap their home for a while.

9) And this week, we're trying a random fill in the blank: I wish someone would create an app that _____________________________________.
An app that can find other apps on your phone so you don’t have to scroll though pages of icons.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

I am up at the Cape this weekend with 3 friends and we all have birthdays this month, on Monday I am going up to my brother's and sister-in-law's condo in Kennebunk ME

  1. Kennebunkport! It always looked so idyllic when GHWBush and family vacationed there!

There's an old movie you might enjoy -- My Sister, Irene. It's about two small-town girls who move to NYC and share a studio apartment in a building filled with interesting characters.

  4. Those first days of renting were fun. I enjoyed my new found freedom and I moved every so often to get to try different places out. I am glad I did because we have been in the same house now for a really long time. Ha! Have a nice weekend.

  5. The problem with the generic Cheerios is when you go the next step and start using them in recipes....like I do... :)
