Sleigh Ride

Saturday 9: Sleigh Ride (1993)

Every Saturday I take time off from written on serious topics to have some fun…

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Have you ever ridden in a sleigh?
Yes, when I was knee high to a grasshopper. When I was little we went to a Christmas Tree (I always wanted to own a tree farm so that I could sit out on the porch in a rocking chair tell people “Yup, the crop looks good… it should be ready for harvest in another ten or twenty years) farm and they had sleigh rides around the farm.

2) This recording is from Harry Connick Jr's best-selling CD, When My Heart Finds Christmas. This year, did you add any new holiday songs to your personal collection?
No, I don’t think I ever bought a Christmas album, I got them all from my mother’s collection.

3) Harry was born and raised in New Orleans, a city that seldom sees snow. Have you had enough snow to shovel so far this winter?
We had one very wet snow storm this year that left about one or two inches of snow so far. But I’m loving it, my December fuel bill was $218 compared to $500 or $600.

4) Speaking of weather, Harry hosted a mini-series on The Weather Channel called 100 Biggest Weather Moments. Do you frequently check The Weather Channel?
Nope, just about never. With the internet there are much better sources, I like the Weather Underground, there is a weather reporting station a block from my house and also one near our cottage in New Hampshire.

5) Harry's mother was a very impressive woman -- a lawyer, judge and Louisiana Supreme Court justice. Tell us about someone in your family of whom you're very proud.
My father. He was an officer in WW II, an educator, he was in charge of all the technical colleges in Connecticut, and most important he was my father.

6)  Happy New Year! Now that Christmas is over, are you done with holiday music and decorations? Or are you sad to see the holidays end?
Since I never put up any decorations, or played any Christmas music I don’t miss the holidays.

7) The New Year's Eve fireworks celebration in Sydney, Australia is famous for coordinating pyrotechnics and music. Have you ever welcomed the New Year in another country?
Nope, that was an easy question to answer.

8) Do you have any New Year's Resolutions for 2016?
Yes, I made a resolution to not make any resolutions this year… Oh wait! I think I just broke my New Year resolution.

9) Looking back on 2015, what surprised you?
That I made it through the year.

  3. Hahaha! You made a resolution!
Christmas was easy this year, the Grinch stole it, and I sort of didn't care that he did!
    Have a Happy year!

  4. I didn't decorate, either, and I still enjoyed Christmas. :-)

We've had a couple whopper storms, with shovelable amounts of snow. But it's been unusually warm for us, too.

  5. WOW! That is a huge difference your bill. Mine have never gone over $300 and $300 was only a one time thing.

  6. Christmas trees actually are ready for cutting in about five years, depending on the type of evergreen. (I wrote an article about Christmas trees some years ago.) But oak - now there's a tree that would take a long time to grow. I like that vision of sitting on the porch.
