Is It A Vendetta?

With the Trump administration anything is possible that’s why when a U.S. trans woman is stranded in another country and the State Department will not issue her a new passport you have to wonder if it is the result of her activism against the current administration.

Danni Askini knew she had a dangerous job as the founder of a Gender Justice League, a transgender rights advocacy organization in Seattle, Washington. She’s a transgender woman and is used to occasional threats.

But after she and others sued the Trump administration over its transgender military ban, the threats became constant and specific, Askini says.
After threats were made and an attack while she was driving Askini decided to get out of the country until things quieted down, then her problems with the State Department began.
At that point Askini and her family decided she needed to leave the country. But when she tried to renew her passport, she says officials told her that she had obtained it fraudulently because she didn’t provide documentation including her gender at birth. A State Department official says there has been no policy change in regard to transgender applicants, and, although they can’t comment on any individual’s application or circumstances, they are committed to treating all passport applicants fairly and with respect, including transgender individuals.

Askini's congresswoman, Democrat Pramila Jayapal, intervened to get Askini a temporary passport. Askini went to Sweden, where her ex-husband lives.
And that is when her problems with the State Department began.

The State Department has refused to renew the passports of multiple transgender women, even though documents identifying them as female have already been approved, reports Them.
She said the U.S. Passport Office told her in June that after 20 years of having a passport that matched her gender identity, she needed to provide proof of gender transition.
Other important notes: 1. I have already showed them a birth certificate with my current legal name (which it has been since 1999) and my legal gender as "Female". They claim this is not the "original" because I had previous names. The "original" documents no longer exist.

Danni Askini, whose documents have read "female" since she transitioned in 1998 at age 16, was denied the right to renew her passport because "failed to disclose” that she was transgender, she told the site.

“Make no mistake, this was an intentional action by the State Department to withhold recognizing my gender,” said Askini, who is executive director of the Gender Justice League.
So now she is stuck in Sweden with no passport and is seeking asylum there. Gay Star News reported…
She worries she may be imprisoned or detained by ICE if the State Department doesn’t accept proof of her United States citizenship, despite being born in Maine.

Though she believes her chances to be slim, Askini is seeking asylum in Sweden due to these fears.
Let’s face the Trump administration hates our guts and want us to go away.
