Sam’s Saturday 9: I Forgot to Remember to Forget (1955)
On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
In honor of Elvis' birthday (January 8.)
1) Elvis sings that he thinks about this girl all the time. What person or topic is on your mind this Saturday?
If my brother and sister-in-law made it to Florida… no word yet.
2) He wants to forget the day he met his girl, but simply can't. Think about someone very important in your life. Did you know right away that they were going to be influential?
Well the most influential person in my life is my brother and shall we say we never hit it off in the first 13 years.
Since this week's song is about memories, let's check on how well you recall events in your own life.
3) What was the first concert you ever attended?
It was a really small concert at Rochester Institute of Technology where I went as an undergraduate back in early seventies. There was a small band playing that only attracted about fifty people, it was some band called Genesis and some guy called Phil Collins invited us to party with them at their hotel on campus. My friends went but I had to study for an engineering test.
4) Where did you get your first piercing? (Not only where on your body, but who did the deed and where did they do it?)
2007 at 1PM on June 29th
The deed was done at the mall and it was just the standard ear piercing.
5) What's the name of the bank where you had your first checking account?
Whew! That probably was back in 1968.
Ou... Ou... I just remembered it was the Berlin Savings Bank and they have been merged out of existence.
6) Tell us about your first bicycle.
Aw, that was more than 65 years ago.
7) Who received the first text you ever sent?
Last May when I gave up my flip phone and got a smartphone
8) What had you been drinking when you suffered your first hangover?
Probably beer because I was at West Mountain Ski area in New York in 1968, I was with my brother and cousin who passed away last year. My brother gave me some brotherly advice that has stuck with me ever since, here are his words of wisdom… “If you drink get up and walk around every once in a while so you know how drunk you are.”
When the drinking age was 21 in most states it was just 18 in New York and I used to go skiing with my friends to Catamount Mountain ski area was in South Egremont MA but the bar was in Hillsdale, MA so you skied all day in Massachusetts and for Après Ski you walked to the end of the building where the bar was and you were in New York.
Speaking of skiing every fall the ski used to show a Warren Miller ski movie…
9) Whose was the first wedding you ever attended?
My cousin’s it was a winter day and we had a blizzard and we had to drive home through drifting snow that was piling up on the road. He was heading off to Thailand the next month in the air force.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
