I’m A Believer…

NOT! Not in this case it will take more than just appointing a woman as president of the Human Rights Campaign.
It’s time for the Human Rights Campaign to be led by a woman or person of color

In November 2018, Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), announced his intention to step down after serving the organization for seven years.

As the search begins for someone new to head the world’s largest LGBTQ rights organization, the D.C.-area newspaper The Washington Blade has wondered if the HRC should try and find a woman or person of color to lead it.

The Washington Blade writes that the HRC will “play a crucial role in defending the LGBTQ community against the Trump administration’s attacks, pushing for the Equality Act in Congress and promoting a pro-LGBTQ presidential candidate in the 2020 election.”

As such, the publication floated the possibility that Kate Kendell, former head of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, or Nadine Smith, executive director of Equality Florida, might make great possible candidates. Kendell, however, said she had no interest in the position.
The sting of being stabbed in the back still hurts.

I was warned but I was young and naïve and I didn’t listen to my elders in advocacy.

What will it take for me to trust the HRC, five or six years once that have not just one or two token trans people on their Board. Out of the 29 members of their Board I would want see ten minorities on their Board including at least 5 trans people and they also have to start including minorities in their staff. Buzzfeed reported in 2015…
Internal Report: Major Diversity, Organizational Problems At Human Rights Campaign
A "White Men's Club," the report calls HRC. HRC's top officials acknowledged the report's findings, pointing to more than 20 steps being taken to address the issues.

WASHINGTON — Staff at the Human Rights Campaign last fall described the working environment at the nation's largest LGBT rights group as "judgmental," "exclusionary," "sexist," and "homogenous," according to a sharply critical report that was commissioned by HRC and obtained by BuzzFeed News.
[…]
Three elements of the report, which was conducted by The Pipeline Project, were provided to BuzzFeed from an anonymous source: a snapshot of the findings, a summary of the findings, and a detailed report from the group.

"Leadership culture is experienced as homogenous — gay, white, male," the report stated. "Exclusion was broad-based and hit all identity groups within HRC. A judgmental working environment, particularly concerning women and feminine-identified individuals, was highlighted in survey responses."
HRC right now is the epitome of “GAY Inc.”
