Saturday 9: You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!

Saturday 9: You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (1943)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Dinah Shore goes on about listening to the breeze. Is it windy, breezy, or still where you are today?
Nope “It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.”

2) The August moon is bright in Dinah's musical fantasy. Let's look at your calendar. Is anything special coming up in August (birthdays, anniversaries, vacation getaways ...)?
Shh… It is my brother’s 80th and his kids are planning on a surprise party. (I’m not spilling the beans… he knew already so it isn’t much of a surprise party)

3) Dinah was one of TV's pioneers. Her first show was a 15-minute variety show that ran two nights/week in 1951. What's the most recent show you watched?
The PBS Newshour.

4) She followed that in 1956 with the Dinah Shore Chevy Show. It was an hour long and sponsored by the car company. At the end of every show Dinah encouraged her viewers to "see the USA in your Chevrolet ..." Today Chevrolets are still the most popular cars manufactured by General Motors. Tell us about your car.
I have a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime, that’s the hybrid you can plug in to charge the batteries

5) From 1970 to 1991, Dinah hosted daytime TV talk shows and found tremendous success, winning 6 Emmy Awards and repeatedly appearing in the Gallup Poll of America's most admired women. Do you remember her?
Oh yeah, I watch the Dinah Shore Chevy Show regularly with my parents.

6) Dinah was such an avid golfer that, in 1972, she founded one of the LPGA's major tournaments. Though now officially titled The Chevron Championship, it's still often referred to as "The Dinah Shore" in her memory. Do you golf? If not, would you like to learn?
Nope and nope, I have no desire to chase a ball around.

7) In 1943, when "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" was popular, so were tablecloths. It was common to have cotton tablecloths for everyday use, fun and festive ones for 4th of July and Christmas, and linen for formal occasions. Do you use tablecloths in your home?
Nope, I don’t know any one who uses tablecloths anymore except for holidays.

8) Beatle George Harrison was born in 1943. Which of the Fab Four is your favorite?
Paul.

9) Random question: Would you rather live on a houseboat or in a trailer?
Hmm… I can honestly say that is something that I haven’t thought about. I suppose a houseboat but I wonder what would happen in winter when everything freezes over.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. #9: There's just something neat about living on a houseboat, isn't there? At least in theory,

  2. I thought of winters on a houseboat, too. Not too practical in Northern Maine.

  3. I only use a tablecloth one day out of the year, and that's Christmas Eve.

  4. Interesting that video. I knew Dinah Shore quite well and followed her show all the time, but I can't quite remember her from looking at the video! (must be my age)

  5. I'd love to have a 53 Chevy Woody! Oh, and #9. That's why I didn't pick a houseboat. ;-)

Well, I guess I am old fashion. I am not sure how many tablecloths I have. I love to use them. Of course, for everyday use I use some real beautiful ones that I get from La Cigale which are acrylic coated 100% cotton. Wipe them off and away you go. For other occasions we have all types and always welcome a new one from the tailor shop. I have some that my grandmother embroidered that we enjoy on family get togethers. So dear Diana now you know someone who uses tablecloths and has a large collection. And even after the revolution I am still going to require a napkin.

  7. A surprise party... always wanted one!

About freezing and a houseboat. Most houseboats here have a steele hull. When people live there all year, they generate heat in the winter, which keeps the water directly touching the boat from freezing. Or thy keep a small arra around the boat open. They have special adjustments for the plumbing.
