He was detained by law enforcement officials in Cyprus in February in connection with the indictment, but fled after being freed on bond while awaiting extradition. If convicted, he faces up to 100 years in prison.
The Republicans get so focused that they get tunnel vision, they smelled blood and attacked Hunter Biden. They are so involved in conspiracy theories that they believe any lie put forward.
But prosecutors painted a portrait of Mr. Luft, who split his time between Israel and Washington, as an unscrupulous political fixer working for China who made much of his cash as a back-channel arms and oil broker.Mr. Luft, prosecutors said, helped Chinese arms manufacturers sell anti-tank launchers, grenade launchers and mortar rounds to Libya (he referred to them as toys in communications obtained by the government), bombs and rockets to the United Arab Emirates and military drones to Kenya. He told an associate that the unwillingness of U.S. officials to sell weapons to Kenya provided them with an “opportunity” for profit, prosecutors said.[…]At the same time, he was using his post as co-director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security in Gaithersburg, Md., to exert political influence on behalf of Beijing, according to the Justice Department.
He sounds like a very nice guy! Very trustworthy! NOT! But to the Republicans he walks on water because he had dirt on Biden.
Representative James R. Comer, Republican of Kentucky and the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, recently described Mr. Luft as a “very credible witness on Biden family corruption” and said that he hoped to interview him, regardless of the government’s allegations.Shortly before the indictment was unsealed, Senator Ron Johnson, Republican of Wisconsin and a supporter of Mr. Trump, said in an interview with Fox Business that Mr. Luft’s work on behalf of Chinese energy companies gave him a “wealth of information” about the Bidens. He provided no evidence for that assertion.
And do you want to guess what the Republican response to all this was?
Mr. Johnson accused federal prosecutors of bringing the case against Mr. Luft “to silence him,” and said the researcher — whom he suggested was hiding out in Israel — should be granted immunity from prosecution to testify before Congress.
Of course it is all a Democrat plot! Fake news! And all the other Republican dribble.
Democrats said that Mr. Comer and other Republicans have shown they are willing to go to any lengths to smear the Bidens, even to the point of accepting the word of a man accused of being a Chinese agent and illegal arms dealer over that of federal law enforcement officials.
What do you expect from Republicans? They lie about us, they lie about drag queens, they lie about all these conspiracy theories.

These Republican lawmakers are so hungry for dirt that they don’t question the source. The weirder the story the more they bite at it.

You remember Hunter Biden’s hard drive? The Post went on to write…
“If it’s not Hunter Biden’s laptop, why doesn’t he say so? I mean, that’d be the first thing I would do. I say, ‘That’s not my laptop,'” Jordan said. “Because it is his laptop and anyone with common sense and any bit of reason and logic can see that.”Riggleman also told CNN’s Jim Acosta on Sunday that the first son’s team has evidence of “specific instances of fabrication or manipulation of the data,” though it was not immediately clear to what he was referring.Shortly after The Post broke the news about the laptop in October 2020, social media companies such as Twitter throttled the bombshell story, while 51 former intelligence officials signed on to a letter claiming it possessed “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”
I had a hard drive crash once and had to take it to a computer shop to get the data off the old drive. When I picked up my laptop the shop gave me the old hard drive. I bought the old drive home and drilled a dozen of holes through it. Does it make sense when someone picks up their old computer they leave behind the old hard drive? A hard drive with probably their Social Security number, date of birth, and all other critical information on it?
But the Republicans want the dirt and they don’t look too hard to see what’s behind it.
