Why I Will Not Buy A Tesla

When I was looking for a car back in 2017 a Tesla was one of the cars I was thinking about but my brother’s place was just at the range limit so I crossed it off of my list.

But now I have another reason… he is a transphobic bigot.

Elon Musk Throws Transphobic Outburst After Being Booed Onstage

Over the weekend, the wealthiest man in the world learned that money could buy a social media platform, but it still can’t silence critics.

Elon Musk spent the weekend continuing to stir the proverbial pot by making controversial Twitter posts and showing up as a surprise guest at a Dave Chappelle show in San Francisco.

Neither went very well.

The new owner of Twitter continued trying to rile up his supporters and gin up controversy in his ongoing attempt to call attention to the platform that advertisers have left in droves after Musk’s acquisition.

On Saturday, Musk tweeted, “Twitter is both a social media company and a crime scene.”

He also supports the abortion ban, the ban on healthcare for trans youth, and all the other draconian laws they are passing.

Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has “consistently” praised the “social policies” of the state of Texas during his “frequently” chats with Greg Abbott, the Texas governor said Thursday, in an interview focused on his state’s landmark abortion ban.

Abbott joined CNBC on Thursday to push back against speculation that the new law would harm the state’s business-friendly image, saying its lax regulations aren’t the only thing attracting employers.

“Candidly, not only do they like the business environment, but you need to understand there’s a lot of businesses and a lot of Americans who like the social positions that the state of Texas is taking,” Abbott said.

[…]

Pressed on whether he meant the new abortion law specifically—as well as the state’s controversial voting restrictions—are attracting new companies, Abbott said they are, adding that the policies are responsible, in fact, for “accelerating the process of businesses coming to Texas.”

The Advocate goes on to say Musk got chastised by...

Scott Kelly, who is a former NASA astronaut and twin brother of Arizona U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, responded to Musk’s pronouns tweet, writing, “Elon, please don’t mock and promote hate toward already marginalized and at-risk-of-violence members of the #LGBTQ+ community. They are real people with real feelings. Furthermore, Dr Fauci is a dedicated public servant whose sole motivation was saving lives.

Nope, I will never buy anything from the bigot.

Update 3:00 PM

I’m not the only one!

I just found this…

Tesla is becoming a partisan brand, says survey

Tesla is becoming a partisan brand – losing the support of Democrats and gaining support from Republicans, according to a survey.

Leaders of large companies selling consumer products, like automakers and tech companies, generally refrain from showing direct support to any political party, especially in the US.

Due to the polarizing nature of politics in the US and its two-party system, it’s better to stay away from definitive statements of support one way or the other since you risk alienating large parts of the population.

That’s why it was so surprising to see Elon Musk tell his over 100 million followers on Twitter to vote Republican during the midterm elections last month and going as far as calling the Democratic Party the “party of hate.”

[…]

Jordan Marlatt, tech analyst at Morning Consult, went as far as saying that Tesla is becoming a partisan brand:

It seems like Tesla is on its way to becoming a partisan brand.
