There was a Supreme Court ruling that effectively balkanized the United State. Can you guess which one? Here is a hint: It was about us. United States v. Skrmetti. That case effectively turned over our civil right to each state. You can go the bathroom her but not there!
Ten years after their Supreme Court win, some veterans of the marriage equality battles see a shared struggle for transgender rights. The New York TimesBy Amy Harmon and Pooja SalhotraJune 28, 2025Across the country, many Americans have commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision guaranteeing same-sex couples the right to marry nationwide. They have pointed to the broad social acceptance for same-sex marriage and vowed to fend off legal threats to the landmark ruling. But for some veterans of the marriage equality movement, celebration was muted by another Supreme Court ruling a week earlier in which the right for states to ban some gender-transition medical treatments for young people was upheld. It is an area of L.G.B.T.Q. policy that has been as polarizing as same-sex marriage once was. But for many gay Americans and their allies, the two are of a piece.[...]Several couples involved in that case said they saw parallels to what transgender youths are facing now with a patchwork of state laws. At least 30 states still have statutes or constitutional amendments banning marriage equality, though they cannot be enforced because of the Supreme Court ruling. Over the last four years, 27 states have enacted partial or total bans on gender-transition treatments for minors.
Marriage and trans rights are so interwound that trying to separate the two will be down right impossible! You see "these people" are old school gays and lesbians, we saw them in the early 70s. They were the ones who only wanted gays and lesbians who could assimilate in to society. It was not
just us that they kicked out but also "flaming gays" and "butch lesbians" let alone trans people. They wanted to get up on stage and say... "See we are not like them!"
Andrew Sullivan, a prominent proponent of what he called the “conservative case for same-sex marriage,” wrote in a guest essay in The Times that gay and lesbian people risk losing hard-won acceptance when they associate with some elements of the trans rights movement. And Glenna Goldis, a liberal who participates in two advocacy groups — LGB Alliance USA and LGB Courage Coalition — that seek to sever the “TQ” from the standard acronym, said that many gay activists feel it is taboo to “suggest any disjunction between gay and trans.”
What they forget is my Profound revelation #1 from this morning's blog post.
The Republicans do not see any difference between trans people, gays, lesbians, and the whole alphabet soup. They just lump us all together as an “abnormal lifestyle.”!
No matter how far they want to distance themselves from us, it won't work.
What I foresee is the Supreme Court saying marriage is a state right! We can already see the nightmare it is creating with abortion! Texas is suing a doctor in New York for treating a patients via telemedicine for an abortion and they also tried it with a Oregon and a trans child. Will we see the same thing for marriage? Will a same-sex couple be married in some states in not others? What about interracial marriage marriage, will they become illegal in some states? Back in the 30s, 40s, 50s, and the 60s there was a "Green Book" that listed for Blacks where it was safe to go, we have "Peeing in Peace" that lists where it is safe for us to travel.
Lawyers who have represented both same-sex marriage plaintiffs and transgender plaintiffs said they were connected by gender stereotypes that remain deeply ingrained.“Fundamentally, many of the laws that targeted gay people targeted gay people because of their gender nonconformity, which terrified Americans who were unfamiliar with gay people at the time,” said Camilla B. Taylor, the interim chief legal officer for Lambda Legal, a nonprofit focusing on L.G.B.T.Q. issues that was involved in both Supreme Court cases.
See these gays and lesbians, they are the "ME" gays and lesbians not the "US" they don't see the community but only sees themselves. And let us not forget that there are trans people don't feel that they are part of the trans community.
It all boils down to... "Me" or "Us"
A comment on the New York Times article...
It needs to be stated, AGAIN, that what gay men and lesbians were seeking from Stonewall until today was the right to participate fully in the nations institutions as open, proud gay and lesbian Americans. What transsexuals are demanding is nothing less than the redefinition of biological science and the abolition of the gender binary. These things are inimical.
Me. Totally focused on them. "...gay men and lesbians were seeking from Stonewall" I hate to break it to him but as Sylvia Rivera characterized the Stonewall Inn as "a white male bar for middle-class males to pick up young boys of different races."
You see he believes that being gay or lesbian is not a choice but somehow it is a choice for us.
What the court and society is doing is it is breaking up the country in to states where discrimination is legal and states where they believe that all people were created equal. Where state government controls what you think, say, and do.
