AP NewsBy BILL BARROWJuly 21, 2025The Trump administration on Monday released records of the FBI’s surveillance of Martin Luther King Jr., despite opposition from the slain Nobel laureate’s family and the civil rights group that he led until his 1968 assassination. The digital document dump includes more than 240,000 pages of records that had been under a court-imposed seal since 1977, when the FBI first gathered the records and turned them over to the National Archives and Records Administration.[...]The Kings got advance access to the records and had their own teams reviewing them. Those efforts continued even as the government granted public access. Among the documents are leads the FBI received after King’s assassination and details of the CIA’s fixation on King’s pivot to international anti-war and anti-poverty movements in the years before he was killed. It was not immediately clear whether the documents shed new light on King’s life, the Civil Rights Movement or his murder.
Oh look! Over here, not behind the curtain!
In the past 48 hours, Trump has unspooled comments on a litany of controversies, all of which seem designed to distract attention from the Jeffrey Epstein case. The Washington PostBy Cleve R. Wootson Jr.July 21, 2025Over the past 48 hours, President Donald Trump has asked his Truth Social followers “How did [former USAID administrator] Samantha Power make all of that money?”He said he might scuttle a stadium deal if the Washington Commanders football team doesn’t change its name back to the Washington Redskins. He highlighted a memo from his director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, that said Obama administration officials planned a “treasonous conspiracy in 2016” aimed at Trump. Emphasizing the point, he posted an AI-generated video of Barack Obama being arrested in the Oval Office. On Monday, Gabbard added another item to the list — announcing the release of hundreds of thousands of documents related to the 1968 assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.[...]The through-line connecting those disparate posts? They have nothing to do with the political problem that has dogged Trump for weeks — the 2019 death of Jeffrey Epstein. As the controversy over Epstein, the wealthy financier and sex offender, has refused to dissipate, Trump and those closest to him have tried repeatedly to divert attention to other subjects, with limited success.
Trump is getting desperate! They are beginning to see through Trump schemes.
“This is different because he’s in a real fight with his base. Normally his base helps change the topic by latching on to a new outrage. But now he’s in a fight with his base, and the Democrats and the mainstream media are more than happy to fan those flames,” Conant said. The fight started because many of Trump’s loyal supporters were angered that the administration was refusing to follow through on promises to release more details about the Epstein case. The politically connected multimillionaire, who died in 2019, has been the subject of years of elaborate conspiracy theories, many of them fanned by people who now hold senior positions in Trump’s administration, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino.
All of his sleight of hand tricks are not working on this. And even Fox News is getting on the band wagon!
MAGA supporters are not pleased with President Donald Trump following his full-throated defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi, whose Department of Justice denied the existence of a Jeffrey Epstein client list after years of Trump surrogates vowing to reveal the disgraced financier's secrets.Longtime conservatives and supporters of Trump sounded off on social media this weekend, as well as in person during a convention in Florida, with various messages pledging that the Epstein scandal will not "go away." The DOJ determined that Epstein committed suicide in 2019 and that there is no list detailing the names of the world's elite who allegedly took part in Epstein's history of sexual deviancy.".@realDonaldTrump please understand the EPSTEIN AFFAIR is not going away," retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, Trump's national security advisor from his first administration, posted to X on Saturday. "If the administration doesn’t address the massive number of unanswered questions about Epstein, especially the ABUSE OF CHILDREN BY ELITES (it is very clear that abuse occurred), then moving forward on so many other monumental challenges our nation is facing becomes much harder."
This is not going away!
No matter what Trump does—this isn’t going away. Why? Because this cuts too close to his so-called Christian base. They’ll excuse a lot, but they draw the line at child sex trafficking. Trump ran out of mulligans—and excuses." People want answers—names, facts, not excuses."
