Mini-Post: Epstein Files!

This sounds like a James Bond movie! But it is real life. It is funny how Trump was all over President Biden "not releasing records" but for him it is a different tune.

President Trump continues to be embroiled in the backlash to the Justice Department's handling of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Members of his own party have been calling for more transparency into the DOJ's investigation of the disgraced financier, whose death by suicide in prison in 2019 has sparked numerous conspiracy theories.

Trump's Justice Department said last week that no additional documents from the investigation into Epstein's death would be made public, and denied the existence of a "client list" which riled up Trump's base. Trump had said during the election last year that he would want to make files related to Epstein's death public.

In a post to Truth Social, his social media website, on Wednesday morning, Trump lashed out at Democrats, and some of his own supporters, calling the furor over the Epstein case a "hoax."
The New York Times wrote,
Mr. Trump distanced himself from those who have criticized him, calling them “PAST supporters” who had “bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker.”

Mr. Trump also claimed that outrage over the Justice Department’s decision to not release additional information and close the investigation was just the latest “scam” cooked up by Democrats.

“Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work,” he wrote, “don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!”

In doing so, Mr. Trump turned to an old playbook: attempting to reframe politically unfavorable issues as the work of Democrats and his political opponents.
The Times article ends with...
The post also highlights Mr. Trump’s longstanding belief that he can convince his followers of nearly anything without losing their support.
Time has a list of those Republicans on the committee who voted against the releasing the Epstein files:
