To Hell Or High Water, The Show Goes On!

Back in February I wrote about the Enfield Drag Show being canceled, well it is going on at a new location.

A Pride event in Enfield that was reportedly canceled last month over concerns about social media threats is returning.

Drag Story Hour is returning in April, but the event will be at a new location.

The event hosted by Enfield Pride is described by organizers as a series of story time readings by a drag performer for children of all ages with the goals of promoting reading and diversity.

Instead of taking place at the library, the next Drag Story Hour will be held at Asnuntuck Community College on Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. The school will reportedly be providing security for the event for everyone's safety and comfort.

"CT State Asnuntuck is proud to be a location where all are welcome to be their true authentic selves. CT State celebrates diversity and embraces and values the differences that make all of us unique. We believe that freedom of speech and freedom of expression are integral to providing a robust learning environment where our community feels empowered to exchange ideas, learn, and grow," John-Paul Chaisson-Cardenas, vice president of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at CT State Community College, said in a statement.

Enfield Pride said they have since received many messages of support from the queer community and their allies, and they are expecting a big event.
I'm waiting the conservative to complain that it is being held at a community college.

Another drag story hour is also receiving flak over the book readings,
A local bookstore has doubled down on its decision to host a drag queen story time for children.

The Bookmatters in Milford announced the event earlier this week. At the event, drag queens will be coming into the store and reading. The Bookmatters said that within 48 hours of the online post, it received several hateful comments. Now, they're putting in safety measures in response.

This is a free event, but anyone wanting to go must RSVP. The store will also be closed for shopping. Even with it being a private event, they're prepared for extremist groups. Nothing can close the book on a children's drag story hour at a local bookstore.

The Bookmatters in Milford said this will be its first time hosting an event like this. The store's getting some negative comments and that's why those who work there aren't going on camera.

"We just thought that we'd have hosted story time and we didn't think that there'd be this much of a reaction, but we're happy to host it," said a spokesperson for The Bookmatters.

The store said that the event post has been shared numerous times in public and private groups. Some people are praising the idea while others have been quick to share their concerns about exposing children to drag.

"We just want to have a space where anyone is welcome and included, and that means anybody. So, we're not going to back down," the spokeswoman said.
The anti’s are spreading lies about the story hour, the books are pornographic, and the readers are not dressed provocatively. They are against anything LGBTQ+.
