Unfortunately there are many people out there that do not agree.
Lexington business owner and performer react to proposed bills that could regulate drag performancesWKYTBy Grason PassmoreJanuary 30, 2024Two bills were filed, one in the House and one in the Senate. Lawmakers said they aim to protect children from ‘sexually explicit performances’ and would define drag shows as such.“I don’t think it is actually aimed at protecting the innocence of children. I think it’s for attention,” said Rebecca Richter, the owner of Crossings Lexington.Richter owns Crossings Lexington, a bar known for it’s inclusivity, and the several drag performances hosted there each month.Performances that would be outlawed under two recently filed bills, House Bill 402 by Representative Nancy Tate and Senate Bill 147 by Senator Lindsay Tichenor. Both categorizing places that allow these performances as adult-oriented businesses and quote ‘inappropriate for children.’“I don’t think it’s our government serving the citizens. I think there are many things that do need to be addressed. Like homelessness, housing, healthcare, education, transportation.”Similar to Senate Bill 115 that did not pass last session, the bills would prohibit drag queen performances or any performance deemed to involve ‘sexual conduct’ within 933 feet, roughly one city block, from places like a government facility, school, park or library.
You know that this bill violates the First Amendment but the Republicans don’t care about the Constitution.

Then right here in Connecticut in the river town of Enfield the right-wing animosity has shown its ugly head. After the Republican control Town Council banned flying the Pride flag this…
NBC ConnecticutBy Jeremy ChenJanuary 31, 2024A Pride event in Enfield is now off after organizers say they received social media threats.“I see all these parents, they’re having a great time. The children, they’re having a great time.”Felicity V. Lay is no stranger to entertaining families. As drag queen, she has done various events in the Enfield area, including drag queen story time.“It just brings me so much joy when they’re like 'hey, can you come do a story hour?'” she said. But Enfield Pride’s drag story hour event at Central Library is now canceled. Lay, who’s part of the group, said it‘s due to threats on social media.“A lot of people did not like that apparently and it warranted different threats. People were trying to protest. Getting very, very deep threats, too,” Lay said.
The show was scheduled for April… I see these two events being linked, the Town Council gave a green light for the bias crime and emboldened the haters.
-and the haters got exactly what they wanted. No Drag Show. Connecticut has a lot to learn about fighting back rather than cowering in fear. How many drag shows around the country went on as planned and the haters showed up and so didn't brave LGBT+++ peoples. How it reminds me of what Storme' said at Stonewall, "Why don't you guys do something." Perhaps the cupcakes, glitter, rainbows and other superficial crap has taken over and sugared up those brains. I do hope that there are at least some folks rather than the love, love, love crowd that are teaching the young folks and newbies to the movement about rebellion. Of course, in a small town no one wants to upset the apple cart too much. I hope that Rev. Gray the love mouth of the party will hold the Drag Queen Story Hour in his UCC church. I suppose it's along the lines of pick your battles, live to fight another day but folks this is just another win for the fascists. This is exactly why elder folks like me are saying to heck with the mainstream LGBT movement.
