There is a bill in the Connecticut General Assembly that affects our healthcare for youth! A bill was added…
Raised Bill No. 214: AN ACT CONSOLIDATING STATUTORY PROVISIONS RELATING TO REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE SERVICES AND GENDERAFFIRMING HEALTH CARE SERVICES.14 (2) "Gender-affirming health care services" means all medical care15 relating to the treatment of gender dysphoria as set forth in the most16 recent edition of the American Psychiatric Association's "Diagnostic and17 Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" and gender incongruence, as18 defined in the most recent revision of the "International Statistical19 Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems"; and
This is so new that the details haven’t been published, just from my read of the bill it looks like the bill is trying to consolidate difference sections of laws into one place.
CT News Junkieby Jamil RaglandMarch 5, 2024A relatively straightforward attempt to combine two laws into one became an opportunity for a sometimes contentious debate over the efficacy of gender affirming care for minors in the state. The Judiciary Committee heard public testimony Tuesday regarding several different bills.Gender affirming care was added to a bill that protects medical professionals who perform abortions from legal actions taken by other states.
We need to track this bill and let out legislators know that we are in favor of this bill! The opposition to the bill is started a full court press to block the bill or add a poison amendment to it!
Opponents claim that minors should not be permitted to make such life altering changes to their body, stating that gender and body dysmorphia are mental health issues which require mental health treatment.
While proponents of the bill said…
“The bill before is a very technical one. We are not going to debate here today gender affirming care, whether right, wrong or indifferent. That is not the purpose of this hearing and that’s not the bill before us. The bill before us is a technical one proposed by our non-partisan legislative commissioner staff,” said Rep. Steven Stafstrom, D-Bridgeport, co-chair of the Judiciary Committee.
But the typical lies are coming from the right,
Chris Healy, the executive director of the Connecticut Catholic Public Affairs Conference called for the language of the bill to be modified to exempt medical providers who perform gender affirming care for minors.
That might sound innocuous just remember that more hospitals are being bought up in the state by religious organizations.
“While more and more states review and pass laws relating to the treatment of minors with gender dysphoria, Connecticut blindly follows the proclamations of transgender advocates, which can be misleading. Many of our political leaders prefer to paint this as a partisanissue. It is a serious mental health issue and the facts concerning how we treat it should be seriously examined. The states that have examined the issue have chosen to address some serious health concerns by restricting treatment,” he said in submitted testimony.[…]Dr. Michelle Cretella, the former executive director of the American College of Pediatricians, stated in her testimony that she anticipated a “tsunami” of de-transitiions in the future as minors who received gender affirming care begin to regret their decisions.“Do you know what the rate of detransition is?” Winfield asked.“The most recent study we have is that the rate of regret among young people could be as high as 30%,” Cretella said.“I just wanted to know where you got that figure from, because I’ve done some research on this, as this issue comes before us from time to time, in one way or another, and the numbers I’ve seen are significantly lower than that. I just want to make sure the information we put out there is accurate,” he said.
The American College of Pediatricians is called by the Southern Law Poverty Center…
The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a fringe anti-LGBTQ hate group that masquerades as the premier U.S. association of pediatricians to push anti-LGBTQ junk science, primarily via far-right conservative media and filing amicus briefs in cases related to gay adoption and marriage equality.
Right now I’m on vacation but I will contact friends about what needs to be done to block this bill!
The The Connecticut Hospital Association submitted testimony:
CHA urges the Committee not to make corresponding changes to lines 67 or 79 (i.e., do notadd business associate after “covered entity” at line 67 or 79) for the reasons described below. No change should be made to line 67 because that would mandate that businessassociates have direct communication with patients without regard to their obligationsset forth in business associate agreements, which is not appropriate or allowed in manysituations No change should be made to line 79 because it would make no sense. In line 79,“covered entity” is used to define the type of patient. Business associates do not havepatients
Thank you for your consideration
This is developing story.
What I want to know is why have all the state LGBTQ+ organizations said nothing about this?
Because they are too busy with their fluff, rainbows and glitter that they probally don't know anything about it. Where have all the activists gone? These folks think someone is going to come and save them and all they have to do is sing along with Ned, All You Need Is Love. What B.S. What we need is real leaders in Ct. that will lead and push.
