TransFace

When I bring up cis gendered actors playing trans roles I get push back saying that there are no prominent trans people to play the characters, well I beg to differ, case in point.

And the category is... Golden Globes history.

On Sunday, Michaela JaƩ "Mj" Rodriguez, 31, took home a Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama for her role as house mother and nurse Blanca on the FX show "Pose." It marks the first time in history a trans actress has won a Golden Globe.

This is also the first Golden Globe win for “Pose,” which premiered in 2018.

Rodriguez made history for the first time in summer 2021 after becoming the first transgender performer to be nominated for a lead acting Emmy. Rodriguez did not end up winning that award.

While “Pose” has been hailed for the largest transgender cast in a scripted series and for hiring the first trans woman of color director, the show's stars have been vocal regarding the lack of award recognition they have received.

You got that naysayers out there?

She won a Golden Globe!

In 2019 she won Best Actress - Television at the Imagen Awards, an annual event honoring positive representations of Latinx people in media.

She is just one of many talented trans actresses/actors who are receiving recognition for their work some of them are...

  • Laverne Cox – Orange is the New Black
  • Jamie Clayton – Sense8 & Generation Q
  • Michelle Hendley – Boy Meets Girl
  • Rachel Crowl – And Then There Was Eve
  • Jen Richards – HerStory
  • Nicole Maines – Supergirl

There are so many great trans actresses/actors out there that saying there are no trans actresses/actors who have box office draw is wrong.
