Saturday 9: Sweet Caroline

Crazy Sam’s Saturday 9: Sweet Caroline

The idea for this came from Harriet, who suggested the baseball theme.

1) "Sweet Caroline" has been sung during every Boston Red Sox home game since the 1990s. (Click here to watch Neil Diamond lead the fans in the first game after April's bombing.) Do you know the words well enough to sing along?
Nope, I’m not a big Neil Diamond fan although I do listen to him occasionally.

2) Do you have a favorite major league baseball team?
Nope, I don’t follow sports but my brother’s family are big Red Socks and Patriots fans

3) Budweiser is the "official beer of major league baseball." Do you reach for a cold beer on a hot summer day?
Nope, too many carbs and I cut way back on my consumption of alcohol and I don't drink any soda any more.

4) Every season, more than a million Vienna Beef Hot Dogs are consumed by baseball fans at Chicago's Wrigley Field. When you get a hot dog, what do you put on it?
Cheese, onions, ketchup, and mustard, and sometimes pickle relish in place of the onions.

5) The odds of a fan in the stands being hit by a baseball are 300,000 to 1. The odds of winning the lottery are (approximately) 1 in 12,000,000. Do you play the lottery?
Only when it gets up in the mega-millions. I figure the odds are greater than getting hit by lighting but people do get hit every day.

6) Though his song has been adopted by faithful Boston Red Sox fans, Neil Diamond was born and raised in New York City. Have you ever visited The Big Apple?
Yes, the last time was for the Pride parade in 2009… it’s a long story. (New York City Pride Parade – To Hell and Back)

7) Baseball players are notoriously superstitious. For example, the Cubs' Matt Garza eats Popeye's fried chicken every day that he pitches. Joltin' Joe DiMaggio touched second base with his foot every time he ran on or off the field. Do you have any superstitions?
Nope, I don't believe in that stuff

8) A ball signed by Babe Ruth can fetch tens of thousands of dollars at auction. Have you ever asked a celebrity for his/her autograph?
Yes. Gabby Hayes and that was a long, long time ago. But I have asked authors that I know to autograph their books for me (Now with Kindles, the author’s autograph is the thing of the past… but I wonder is someone can create an App for that?)

9) Baseball means summer and summer means sun. Are you working on a tan, or do you slather on the sunscreen?
Both, I tan only for about 20 minutes when I’m outside and then I slobber on the lotion, usually a SPF of 50.

  3. I made a low carb carrot cake that turned out so good. I think I need another piece. I wonder at what point it is no longer low carb.... :)

  4. Ops... on my Kindle I accidentally delete "The Gal Herself" comment.

The Gal Herself has left a new comment on your post "Saturday 9: Sweet Caroline":

I'm not a Neil Diamond fan, either, but I thought it was so terrific that he flew to Boston, unasked and on his own dime, to sing at that first post-bombing Red Sox game. I think we were all Bostonians that week, weren't we?

And YES to relish instead of onions!

  5. I can't tan at all... I'm far too fair complected. I sizzle. No sun for me.
