The number of people with AIDS is increasing along with STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) and it is going to get worst. Why?
In many states that have banned abortions, women’s clinics have closed and besides abortions these clinics also test and treat STIs. With the closing of women's health clinics studies have found that it can have a direct impact on STI rates. Clinics like Planned Parenthood clinics provide affordable or free STI testing and treatment. When the clinics close, women have to pay for these services and some cannot afford to pay for the tests so they don’t get tested.
The myopic Republicans are so focused on abortion and are anti-LGBTQ they ignore all the other services that these clinics provide.
AIDS, STIs, and Monkeypox are not a “gay” disease, viruses are an equal opportunity infector.
President Reagan and the Republicans ignored AIDS until it spread into the general population. Trump tried to cut funding for STIs but the Democrats blocked him but a group of House Republicans proposed cutting $767 million from key federal HIV prevention and treatment programs for the 2024 fiscal year.
The Republicans animosity towards us knows no bounds.
