Above The Law.

[Editorial]

Have you noticed that there are to groups of people who believe that they are exempt from the laws? Trump’s indictment was by a grand jury, we have been using the grand jury system ever since we inherited it from Great Britain. Now all of a sudden it is “EVIL” it is a Democratic tool!

The Justice Department on Friday asked a federal judge overseeing the criminal case against former President Donald Trump in Washington to step in after he released a post online that appeared to promise revenge on anyone who goes after him.

Prosecutors asked U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to issue a protective order in the case a day after Trump pleaded not guilty to charges of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss and block the peaceful transition of power. The order — which is different from a so-called “gag order” — would limit what information Trump and his legal team could share publicly about the case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.

Such protective orders are common in criminal cases, but prosecutors said it’s “particularly important in this case” because Trump has posted on social media about “witnesses, judges, attorneys, and others associated with legal matters pending against him.”

Prosecutors pointed specifically to a post on Trump’s Truth Social platform from earlier Friday in which Trump wrote, in all capital letters, “If you go after me, I’m coming after you!”
But still the Republican voters still bow down to Trump, the US News and World Report wrote,
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, 2024 GOP contender:

“As President, I will end the weaponization of government, replace the FBI Director, and ensure a single standard of justice for all Americans. While I’ve seen reports, I have not read the indictment. I do, though, believe we need to enact reforms so that Americans have the right to remove cases from Washington, DC to their home districts. Washington, DC is a ‘swamp’ and it is unfair to have to stand trial before a jury that is reflective of the swamp mentality. One of the reasons our country is in decline is the politicization of the rule of law. No more excuses – I will end the weaponization of the federal government.”

[…]

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, 2024 GOP contender:

“This is another sad day for America with a former President being charged criminally for obstructing the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next. January 6 is a day that calls for accountability for those responsible. I have always said that Donald Trump is morally responsible for the attack on our democracy. Now, our system of Justice will determine whether he is criminally responsible. The latest indictment reaffirms my earlier call that Donald Trump should step away from the campaign for the good of the country. If not, the voters must choose a different path.”
Above the law, Republicans don’t have to follow the law, they tear down the court system and the Justice Department.
Rep. Steve Scalise, House majority leader:

“Biden’s DOJ is cutting sweetheart deals for Hunter to cover for the Biden Family’s influence peddling schemes while at the same time trying to persecute his leading political opponent. It’s an outrageous abuse of power.”
You see the Republicans use the Justice Department for their own person weapon to attack opponets and think everyone does it also.

Politico writes…
The majority of responses were divided along party lines, with Democrats using the indictment as an opportunity to slam the former president, who is currently the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. Republicans, on the other hand, argued that the news was evidence of a partisan justice system, suggesting that the indictment was an attempt to unfairly defame Trump and distract from the ongoing legal troubles of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter.
Apples to Oranges!

Biden's son is being investigated for tax fraud and illegal gun possession, that is nowhere near the level of an attempted coup. And once again Trump was indicted by a grand jury of twelve jurors who thought there was enough evidence to indict him.

The Republicans think that if they break the law that they do not have to be held accountability. They feel that if they are held accountable then it means that the process is corrupt.

According to a CBS poll,
America's response to this week's indictment of Donald Trump is providing a window into more than just how Americans view his alleged actions per se — but also into what they think it means for democracy itself.

  • Half the nation believes Trump tried to stay in office beyond his term through illegal and unconstitutional means.
  • To most Americans, such an effort would mean undermining democracy.
  • For them and for a majority of Americans overall, the series of indictments and ongoing investigations against Trump are seen as "defending democracy" and "upholding the rule of law."
  • Just under a third of the country thinks Trump was trying to stay in office through legal, constitutional means — legal, in part because most of them (and including most Republicans) believe Trump's claim that the election was illegitimate in the first place.
  • For most Republicans, the series of indictments are also personal, seeing them as "an attack" on people like them — echoing some of Trump's rhetoric on the campaign trail.
  • And big majorities of Republicans think the indictments are an attempt to stop Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.

The second group that are above the law is the religious-right.

The Court’s decision in 303 Creative v. Elenis carves out a new exception to civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in the public marketplace. A Christian website designer challenged the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, arguing that the law would violate the First Amendment by requiring her company to offer the same services — in this case, custom wedding websites — to people of all sexual orientations.

The court has now endorsed that argument, holding that the First Amendment exempts 303 Creative from Colorado’s requirement because the company offers “expressive” and “customized” services. As Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in her dissent, this is the first time the court has granted “a business open to the public a constitutional right to refuse to serve members of a protected class.” This free-speech exemption applies to civil rights laws across the country. It potentially allows a wide range of businesses to discriminate in the name of expression.
With that ruling anyone can discriminate against anyone just by saying the magic words… “It is against my religious beliefs.” it is a “Get Out of Jail Free” card and it creates two sets of laws. One for the right-wing conservatives and one set of laws for everyone else.
