Who’s Surprised?

With all the mass murders at LGBTQ+ nightclubs and armed protesters I am not surprised that the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning.

Threats of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community are on the rise and intensifying, according to a new briefing by the Department of Homeland Security.

The DHS document, distributed to government and law enforcement agencies on May 11, said that domestic violence extremists and people who commit hate crimes have increased threats of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community within the last year.

“These issues include actions linked to drag-themed events, gender-affirming care, and LGBTQIA+ curricula in schools," DHS said.
But what is more concerning is…
DHS said that the issues inspiring threats and calls of violence against the LGBTQIA+ community could lead to a rise of potential attacks against larger targets, such as public spaces and healthcare sites that may be linked to the community.
Threats have been made to medical centers that treat us, Boston Children’s Hospital had to close for a time after threats were made.
According to DHS, about 20% of all hate crimes reported throughout the country in 2021 were motivated by bias linked to sexual orientation and gender, citing the FBI's hate crime statistics.
But threats have also increased for Asian and non-Christian religious communities, Jews and Muslims saw an increase in bias crimes.

Because of the new laws in Florida Pride organizers are scared of being harassed or arrested by the police.

Republican politicians across the United States are taking aim at drag, despite some having, on occasion, engaged in the art form themselves. (We know blatant hypocrisy is not something they’ve ever been overly concerned with.) They are fighting this battle as part of a larger-scale culture war against the queer community, with a specific focus on attacking trans and gender non-conforming people. Sadly, they are gaining ground.

Representatives from the Pride Alliance of Treasure Coast, Florida recently announced that it would be canceling the region’s Pride Parade in light of the state’s new anti-drag laws. The Florida legislature recently passed a bill that would prohibit government institutions from issuing permits for “adult live performances” in the presence of minors. The bill would also ban businesses from allowing minors to attend an “adult live performance” and threatens to slap any business that breaks the law with a $10,000 fine. People are concerned that the vaguely-worded bill would allow the government to attack the rights of the LGBTQ community with impunity, making it effectively impossible for members of the community to express themselves freely without facing serious legal repercussions.

It seems that the Pride Alliance of Treasure Coast is not willing to take that chance.
That is just what the Republicans and conservatives want, us running scared.

Hartford Pride used to have a play area for the children. I have been to Prides from New York City to Providence RI and I have never seen anything that was not appropriate for all ages. But these right-wing politicians think drag is sexual. The right-wing politicians are the ones who are stirring up animosity against us.

Backing down and cancelling Pride Celebrations. WTF!! Stand up to them, get arrested, challenge the laws. No one should cower in fear of the fascists this early in the game. Where have all the revolutionaries gone, gone to fluff and trinkets everyone? Is that the new song. If that is the case, you and all of us have lost already. And as these loses multiply it will only bode ill for the rest of the country when and if Ron the clowning fascist gets in the White House. Let me add to this if you go ahead with Pride and are arrested there are plenty of rich LGBT folks in Florida and the country to pay your fine and get you out of jail. Line them up now.
