The anti-LGBTQ+ hate is coming to Connecticut thanks to the Republican gubernatorial candidate his true colors are showing.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski unveiled his education agenda Tuesday to end all mask mandates in classrooms, prevent transgender athletes from competing against females, and allow parents to decide when their children learn sex education.Surrounded by parents as he stood outside the state Capitol, Stefanowski said his ideas were practical and supported by many parents.
“This is not radical stuff we’re talking about here,’' Stefanowski said under the south portico on a rainy day. “There are too many labels in this campaign. This is common sense. You talk to moms and dads across the state — they largely agree with this. The guy upstairs [in the governor’s office] is going to try to call this extreme or conservative or whatever word he comes up with. People want to hear substance. We’re putting substance on the table today.’'
Gov. Ned Lamont responded by declining to characterize or label Stefanowski’s proposals. He said that the transgender issue affects “a very few kids going through a very tough time’' and should not be politicized.
“I don’t need a solution looking for a problem,’' Lamont told reporters. “When it comes to transgender young people, kids, keep the politicians out of it. I think our leagues and our coaches at the local level - I believe in local education - they’re going to make the right choices. ... Two months before an election, we don’t need to make a lot of political hay at the expense of these young people. ... I would leave it up to the leagues. I think they will make the right decision.’'
Notice the difference in approcahes? Governor Lamont: “a very few kids going through a very tough time” verses “lets ban trans children” and “allow parents to decide” well first off here in Connecticut it is against the law to discriminate against race, sexual orientation, and gender identity among other things. So if a parent says I don’t want any trans students that’s discrimination! The governor approach is compassion and empathy, candidate Stefanowski approach is “me, me, me”!
Overall, Lamont said, “We’ve got one of the greatest school systems in the country. ... I don’t need anybody pitting parents against teachers. That’s bad for our kids and bad for our students and bad for our schools.”
Just look at Florida and Texas, teachers are quitting, some are retiring while others are leaving and going to states where teachers and not put in the middle.
On a controversial issue, Stefanowski said that state should “ensure the physical safety of all students by prohibiting biological males from competing against girls in high school athletics” because it is “not fair’' for females.
That is the Republican way “us” against “them” stir hate and resentment. One of Stefanowski backers had this to say…
Gwen Samuels, an activist parent and grandparent, spoke at the news conference and said a separate competition like the Special Olympics could be created as an alternative.
“It’s not discriminatory. It is ensuring fairness,’' Samuels said. “We developed Special Olympics because we recognized children have different abilities. So we wanted to assimilate to ensure fairness. That is the same thing. ... Stop the labels. Stop the rhetoric. Do right by all children.’'
It sure is discriminator! What’s next separate bathrooms with a sign out “Trans people only”?
The other thing that Stefanowski is squawking about is,
“Eliminate any mandates for kids to wear masks or mandatory COVID vaccines. It’s an individual choice. ... It shouldn’t be the government’s choice. It should be the individual and the parent who makes that choice for their child. Any parent who wants their child to get that vaccine, I’m all for it. But let’s not force others to do it because the government wants us to do it.”
In other words once again it is “me, me, me” instead of caring about the immunocompromised classmates who might be on chemotherapy, or might have had an organ transplant, or just caring about the other students in the class.
If the Republicans win, we will be just like Florida and Texas… VOTE Blue.
