[Editorial]
We have seen a wave of Republicans pulling books off the shelves saying that they had complaints.
Question: how many parental complains does it take to yank a book out of the library? One person? Ten people? What about people who want them on the shelves do their voices count?
Politicians say they are obscene, who determines that? The mayor? A bunch of conservatives? The courts say “Community Standards” but whose standard? I have never gotten to vote on the “community standards.”
Who determines what is racist?
Who determines what “grooming” is?
Do educators, doctors, and therapists determine what is age appropriate? Or do a bunch of evangelical Christians or politicians?
Where do we draw lines? Who draws the line? Who do you want to draw them?
Something to think about when we vote this fall.
