They Call Us Snowflakes

But who are really the snowflakes?

Snowflake noun
3 informal + usually disparaging
b: someone who is overly sensitive
One side derides the youth driving the movement as snowflakes and social justice warriors, too sensitive and too politically correct.
— Vanessa McCray
Merriam-Webster Dictionary

A teacher here in Southington handed out copies of definitions of words from a dictionary, now these words were not obscene, they just were on diversity. Such as: Indigenous/American Indian, Marginalization, Social justice, transgender, and White privilege and those words got the conservatives hopping mad!

One high school English teacher's attempt to educate students regarding divisive racial and gender issues has enraged some school officials and community members.

That was clear at Thursday's Southington Board of Education meeting, where Republicans hold a 6-3 edge over Democrats, as the board was forced to deal with the type of controversy seen nationally along political lines.

The issue stems from a Southington High School teacher's worksheet distributed to students on the first day of school, Sept 1.

It reportedly addressed several issues that have divided the nation along political, gender and racial lines.

Items raised included "white privilege," "indigenous peoples," "transgender" people, "institutional racism," gender pronouns, the "Latinx" term and other hot-button political issues dividing liberals and conservatives.

A heated debate over these words?

OMG how horrible! To expose children to these words in high school what is this country coming to?

But this reportedly made some students uneasy, and one took the worksheet to a counselor to raise concerns.

And they call liberal snowflakes, who are the real snowflakes?

But he also voiced frustration about how it mushroomed online and outside the realm of the school board.

Oh yeah, the right-wingers are running with this as examples of liberal indoctrination…

Resident Michael Kryzanski said the three-page worksheet has nothing to do with what should be taught in that particular class.

"I'm paying taxes so my kids can learn how to read, write and communicate properly. I'm not paying taxes for them to learn stuff in this document," he said.

It… it… it might teach children to think on their own we can’t let that happen!

"Pretty much every term I'm reading in this document disgusts me," Kryzanski said. "This is critical race theory, which is not supposed to be taught in Southington Public Schools."

WFSB had this to say about the hubbub,

“It’s troubling to me. I read the worksheet. Do I agree with it? Absolutely not,” said Joseph Baczewski, Board Vice Chairperson.

“We shouldn’t have to talk or treat black people, or people of color, as the packet says, differently because of their skin color. If my friend is a person of color, I will treat them the exact same way everyone else gets treated and I expect the same in return,” said Ella Perillo, 10th grade Southington High School student.

Well unfortunately this happens every day in real life… Black people get arrested for watering their neighbor lawns while they are on vacation, a group of Blacks were walking on his property when he was confronted by a neighbor in Rosewood Florida, hate crimes are skyrocketing across the country, or when a bank refused to cash her  check, maybe  we we should teach diversity and understanding of other instead of lambasting a teacher.

This goes way beyond “snowflakes” this goes to the stirring up of animosity against those who are different by the Republicans, this goes to the worship of a former president who praises white supremacist, this is about a party that wants to divide our country, this is about a party that supports Fascism.
