I Am In Favor Connecticut Gun Laws

Red Herrings:
  • Mental Illness – Only about 5% of the shooters have been diagnosed with a mental illness
  • Video Games – There is some research supporting video games increase violent behavior, but there is also some research that found no correlation between video games and violence. however, there are millions of gamers who are not violent.
In Connecticut you…
  • Have a right to defend your castle (home),
  • Can only use lethal force as a last resort (except in your home), you have a duty to retreat (no stand your ground law),
  • Are required to have training, background check and permitting requirements for all purchase of firearms and ammunition, including gun shows,
  • Assault style guns are banned,
  • Ghost guns are banned (guns assembled from parts that are untraceable and has no serial number),
  • Bump stocks are banned,
  • Cannot have large capacity magazines (10 round maximum),
  • Domestic violence cases or stalking cases that have a restraining or protective order issued by a court the defendant must surrender all weapons.
Additional laws I would like to see…
  • Revoke open carry laws,
  • Requiring guns owners to show their license when asked by a law enforcement officer,
  • Gun owners must notify law enforcement officer when guns are lost or stolen.
I believe these are sane gun laws and do not impose any unreasonable burdens on gun ownership.

I think the best way to show that gun laws work, according to the CDC Connecticut had the sixth lowest gun death rates in 2017.
