There are times when a school can legally discriminate against trans students and that is when they do not receive any public funding. If you read the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities "Guidelines for Schools on Gender Identity and Expression" there is a section that explains the conditions when a school maybe exempt from the Connecticut law,
This evening I am taking CPR and AED training. I have had CPR and First Aid training for over twenty years at work but once I was laid off my certification lapsed and now I have a chance to get recertified through the Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective.
Before I was laid off I was also trained as a HAZWOPER Incident Commander level with 40 hours of training. That included training in a Class A environmental suit, you know the ones that look like you are ready for a Mars landing.
Anyhow, this will be the first time I have taken CPR and AED training as Diana, I wonder how the boys at the fire station where we are training will react to me.
Question: Are there exceptions to the law?And this leads us to a Catholic school in Woonsocket, Rhode Island,
Answer: Yes. The act specifies that its prohibition of discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression does not apply to religious corporations, entities, associations, educational institutions, or societies regarding (1) employment of people to perform work for them or (2) matters of discipline; faith; internal organization; or ecclesiastical rules, customs, or laws that these entities have established.
Alumni Condemn Catholic School’s Exclusion of Trans StudentsCan they legally discriminate against trans students? I don’t know, a lot depends upon their funding and if they allow non- Catholics to attend the school.
"Bathroom panic" may well have struck again in a Catholic prep school’s claim that it cannot accept transgender students.

Alumni of Mount Saint Charles Academy, a 92-year-old private Catholic junior-senior preparatory school in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, are criticizing their alma mater for excluding transgender students in the latest edition of the school’s Parent-Student Handbook, according to GoLocalProv.
“Mount Saint Charles Academy is unable to make accommodations for transgender students. Therefore, MSC does not accept transgender students nor is MSC able to continue to enroll students who identify as transgender,” announces the handbook in a section pertaining to its “philosophy of admissions.”
No other group except transgender students appears to be specifically singled out for exclusion in the school’s new admissions policy. While it mentions “race, color, national origin or ethnic background,” the school’s handbook does not include gender or sexuality among its protected attributes in the nondiscrimination statement within its handbook. At this time it is unknown whether any currently enrolled transgender students have been expelled from the school under its new policy.
