Locker Rooms

You might remember that I wrote about in Illinois Palatine Township High School District 211 policy banning trans students from using the locker room of their gender identity a couple of months ago, well they just reached a tentative settlement with the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights.

CHICAGO –  A suburban Chicago school district has approved a deal allowing a transgender student a separate changing area in a girls' locker room.

The Township High School District 211 school board in Palatine met for hours Wednesday, hearing public comments and then meeting in closed session.
Close but no cigar.
According to The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald, the agreement also says the district will allow any student privacy accommodations in the locker room.
Much better but still not right. By allowing everyone to use the separate changing area is correct, but making the trans student to use the separate changing area is wrong, instead they should just say anyone can use the separate changing area and not force the trans student to use it.

  1. That was my school district in high school... can't say I'm surprised! They seem to discourage differences of any kind.
