A transgender woman has been told she can have gender reassignment surgery after her parents' made a last-gasp legal challenge in an attempt to stop it.
Christine Kitzler, 48, who identifies as a woman but is still biologically a man, was scheduled to have the operation yesterday, but it was halted after parents Klaus and Ingrid Kitzler protested that she is mentally unfit to make the decision.
They said a childhood learning disability and bouts of depression indicated Kitzer was mentally unsound and asked for a temporary guardian to be assigned.
However, a judge has now ruled that the operation may go ahead, saying despite Kitzler's past mental issues, she had shown an ability to understand the decision she faces. The surgery may now take place as soon as tonight.
During his testimony, Klaus repeatedly referred to Kitzler as 'he' or 'my son', using the male pronoun 38 times in 45 minutes of testimony.Bravo!
He was eventually asked by the judge to swap to a female, or gender neutral pronoun, after which he began using 'that person' instead.
