But the Republicans seem to think we are a Christian nation and that only Christians can take part in government.

The comments from state Rep. E. Werner Reschke, R-Malin, are raising eyebrows as the legislature prepares to convene.

January 29, 2024A conservative Oregon lawmaker suggested earlier this month that Muslims, atheists and other non-Christians are unfit to serve in elected office.
State Rep. E. Werner Reschke, R-Malin, made the remarks Jan. 17, in an appearance on “Save The Nation.” Streamed on Facebook, the daily talk show is affiliated with the National Association of Christian Lawmakers, of which Reschke is a member. It bills itself as taking on “major public policy issues facing the United States today from a Christian worldview.”
The show’s host, former Arkansas lawmaker Jason Rapert, spent much of the 28-minute episode asking Reschke about what he called the “sad reality of the lax treatment of drugs” in Oregon. Reschke, who has repeatedly pressed for a repeal of 2020′s Ballot Measure 110, responded that drug decriminalization has driven homelessness and crime, and “makes our state unlivable.” The Klamath County legislator criticized Democrats for permissive policies, and argued that spirituality and church leaders are a necessary part of the solution.
Roughly 22 minutes into the episode, Rapert asked a broader question: Why Reschke feels it is important that Christians “be involved in government.” Reschke responded that he was inspired to run for office in 2016 by figures like George Washington, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.
“You go back in history, and you look at men and the struggles that they faced, and the faith that they had,” Reschke said. “Those are the types of people you want in government making tough decisions at tough times. You don’t want a materialist. You don’t want an atheist. You don’t want a Muslim… You want somebody who understands what truth is, and understands the nature of man, the nature of government and the nature of God.”
May something help us! What do these Christians think we are blind to their history? That we can’t hear the screams of the tortured, see the blood of babies, smell the burning flesh of women charged as witches, feel their swords and other weapons gutting out those who only desired one thing freedom.

The moans of the enslaved held by their great celebrated forefathers, the trail of tears, the feet blistered bleeding and burning, our own people labeled sodomite and hung or burned as the faggots caught fire….. Christian I smell the burning flesh of centuries past. Even among you there is hatred of each other each claiming a hot line to God and the only way to heaven.
And you want to run the government with others of your ilk. Please. We are not impressed.
Perhaps if you worked on war, disease, death, destruction, hunger, homelessness, filth, poverty, torture crime, corruption and loved your brother as yourself we could start to believe you. (fingers crossed on that.)
The workers oh the workers good Christians such as this evil man do everything in their power to keep them chained, they claim the right to control the bodies of women and deny our people health care. They deny children access to food while giving billions to the filthy rich and more to create weapons of war that will destroy the planet all in the false idea that by doing so will bring Jesus back quicker. Oh, Jesus help us all.
Even though you are one third of the world population there are many others who do not believe as you do, do not care about you or your god, and just want to be left alone. Please Christians go in your corner and stay there. Stay there until you understand what it really means to be a Christian. May Jesus help them find the way.
