Saturday 9: At Last

On Saturdays I take a break from the heavy stuff and have some fun…
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: At Last (1960)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Etta James sings that "life is like a song." What song reflects how you feel about life these days?
Golden Years,

2) She is delighted to have found the love she has always dreamed of. Have you found true love to be the way you imagined it would be? Or has it surprised you?
I haven’t been hit by Cupid yet.

3) Etta's mother encouraged her to not just sing but perform a song, telling her daughter, "Even if a song has been done a thousand times, you can still bring something of your own to it." Is there a singer whose performances often touch your heart?
Karen Carpenter

4) As a teen, she was considered a gospel prodigy and churches all around Los Angeles requested she "guest" at their services. Do you have a favorite religious song?
Nope.

5) "At Last" is one of the most often requested songs for the newlywed's first dance at the reception. What song reminds you of a sweetheart?

This is the last Saturday 9 before Valentine's Day and so this morning we shall focus on the upcoming holiday.

6) It's been reported that millions of roses are grown specifically for Valentine's Day each year. What's your favorite flower?
Lilies.

7) The earliest recorded celebration of Valentine's Day was in Paris in the year 1400. Obviously you weren't around for that one. What do you remember from one of your earliest, childhood Valentine's Day celebrations?
Drawing Valentine cards in school.

8) About 20% of pet owners say they give their dogs, cats, birds or bunnies a Valentine. Is your pet getting something special on February 14?

No pets.

9) Of all the professions, teachers are #1 when it comes to receiving Valentine cards. Did you ever have a crush on a teacher
?
Yes. The kindergarten teacher when I was elementary school, it probably was because she drove a Corvette.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

What an adventure this week.

It all started Thursday afternoon while I was listening to an audio book in my recliner when out of the blue all seven of my smoke detectors went.

I jumped up and ran around in circles flapping my arms for a few seconds until my brain said “SMOKE ALARMS!” I ran around the house checking all the alarms… no smoke anywhere! (It did a job on my back getting out of the recliner so fast and running up and down the stairs.) Whew! Next question why did they go off? The last time it was spider that made its home in one of the detectors.

Went to turn on the lights… no lights! Microwave clock out. Go back down the cellar and check the circuit breakers… none tripped. Nothing inside caused the trip. I call the outage in to the electric company. A few moments latter on their website of outages a pin pops up on the map… my street, 10 homes.

Ten or fifteen minutes later a utility truck shows up. The crew is poking around in the transformer vault. Two trucks… Supervisor pickup truck comes. Five people standing around scratching their heads. Three hours later the lights are on! Yea! Next door neighbors no lights, now we go four trucks out there. (The good news, my UPS for my modem kept the internet going while the power was out. The not as good news, my security alarm lasted for about two hours before it gave up the ghost in a series beeps, clicks, and final whoop from the outside alarm.)

Late into the night they are working. Lights come on around 11 next door and there is a big generator out in the street running.

Next day they mean business! All those little flags from “Call before you dig” are out their, a backhoe, dump trucks, four line crew trucks. They finished up around 10 last night.

After I went grocery shopping I talked to a guy working and he said…
  • That an underground cable blew!
  • That there are four houses that are running off a portable generator.
  • My house they switched some switches and I'm being back fed from the other street.
They replaced about a couple hundred feet of conduit.

  3. Oh dear. You have had a time. That would have been scary. Karen Carpenter did have a lovely voice. She was one of my favorites growing up.

  4. I loved Karen Carpenter too! So sad how she struggled with her health. I did get to e see the Beautiful Tour with hubby and siblings. It was great. I still have my original Tapestry album. My mom got it for me. She loved her too. I am glad you got your electrical problem fixed. Bet you didn't know you could get up and move that quickly!
